Welch OB/GYN

Dr. Welch is absolutely amazing. Never have I ever been to a doctor who truly cared about instilling helpful women’s health knowledge all while doing an impeccable job at the same time. His sense of humor is very disarming and I was SO comfortable as a new patient. Highly recommend!

I wish I could give 0 stars! More than that, I wish my experience had gone much different. After having my baby and having to move 2 weeks later, I called Welsh to make an appt for my 6 week post partum. I was met with sme resistance as this was not the Dr. that delivered me. After explaining my position of having moved a couple hundred miles away from that Dr. The appt was made. I arrive at the appt fill out the paperwork give a sample… and then I’m told that the Dr. wont do a 6week pp check up for me, only an annual, wish I previously explained to them I already had! Color me PISSED THE F#*k OFF! This place is a good 25 miles from my home, and I FULLY EXPLAINED WHAT I NEEDED OVER THE PHONE! To make matters worse, the receptionist who took the appt initially told me that I never told her it was for a pp checkup!!! Still pissed thinking about it. Still with out a Dr. in NC! Won’t be suggesting them if for no other reason than poor Customer Service!

I’ve been to MANY OB/​GYN practices in the RDU area since moving here in 2005. Dr. Welch has been the answer to my endless search for a good gynecologist. He is patient, and takes the time to throughly answer any questions that I have had. Dr. Welch has a lighthearted personality, but when it comes to issues or concerns about your health, he is very straight to the point and can be blunt, which I appreciate.
Recently he delivered my first baby. Though I can’t compare the experience to anything else, I was glad to be working with Dr. Welch. He was patient and calm during my not-​so-​easy delivery process. I would recommend him to my friends!

I’d been seeing Dr. Welch for several years for routine gynecological care and I’d never really been thrilled with the care, but also never unhappy enough to change practices. One of my main points of contention about Dr. Welch is that while most times he is friendly and personable, at times he can come across as sharp, to-​the-​point, and slightly condescending (especially if you have an opinion differing from his). I’m not one to insult easily, so this didn’t bother me too much on the rare occasions it happened.
However, the biggest and most irritating thing about his practice was the constant wait time. In the 10+ visits I’ve had with him throughout the years, I can only count one time where I was called back from the waiting room within 10 minutes of my appointment time. Almost every visit my wait time was 40+ minutes from my actual appointment time just to be called back by a nurse. Since I saw him once or twice a year at most, this wasn’t a HUGE deal to me, as aggravating as it was.
I knew I couldn’t deal with it though when I became pregnant. Upon learning of my pregnancy, I scheduled an appointment with him and arrived on time. I wasn’t seen until 1 hour and 20 minutes after my appointment time. As I had multiple times before during previous visits, I asked the receptionist why I was waiting so long and was told the EXACT same thing I had been told 4 times previously, «the doctor had an emergency earlier and is running behind». An okay excuse once a while, but unacceptable for 4 consecutive visits. I should preface this by saying that when I arrived, the receptionist was mentioning to a nurse about how one of their patients looked like a no-​show. That patient arrived over 45 minutes after her appointment time and was ushered back quickly and seen, all while I waited and waited. When I finally saw Dr. Welch, he was pretty good about answering my (limited amount) of questions, gave me an ultrasound, and was pretty personable. However, I felt like I was being rushed. My entire appointment lasted less than 20 minutes from start to finish, and he never once even mentioned my due date or other things that I now know are standard 1^st appointment informational points to give. I was hurried out to the receptionist, and not knowing anything about pregnancy since this was my first, I asked her when I’d get my next ultrasound. I was told I wouldn’t get one at all, unless I wanted to know the gender at 20 weeks. After researching on the internet, I found that a 20-​week anatomy scan is a pretty standard diagnostic visit that should not be missed. I was pretty fed up with Welch OBGYN at this point and changed practices.
Overall, Dr. Welch is not a horrible doctor. He’s just not that great, and the continuous wait times were enough for me to discontinue going there. If you’re okay with waiting and don’t plan to go there very often, it wouldn’t be a horrendous choice.

After going through a whole pregnancy with Dr. Welch, I’d say it’s time to review. Like Michelle M. said, you almost want to keep him to yourself, but we ladies know how important it is to find a good OB/​GYN!
I LOVE that it’s a practice with just him and his nurse. Yes, sometimes it means waiting a little longer, but I’ll happily wait. Getting appointments on my days off were never a problem and I felt at ease and in good hands my entire pregnancy.
His nurse, Michelle, is awesome and so sweet, and Catina worked with me and was very understanding and flexible when it came time to pay my bill (after their estimate was a bit off).
Dr. Welch is a funny, easygoing guy, who doesn’t waste your time, but is always available to talk to if you have a question or concern. Excellent practice in a nice building, and a comfy couch I may have dozed off on…
Though he didn’t ultimately end up delivering my baby (see my review for Dr. Seidel,) his postpartum care was excellent and I’m thankful that because of Unilocal,I discovered this great doctor.

Dr. Welch Ob/​gyn. How many women can say they love their gynecologist? I DO! This is a very personable, private practice. The staff is outstanding and friendly! And Dr. Welch is a Professional!
I came to his practice for a referral. I use to live in Cary when I start with Dr. Welch now I live in Wake Forest about 30 miles and I keep visit this office! He is very understanding and patient. He speaks with a mellow voice and clear. He seems to really love what he does. How nice!

Dr. Welch is awesome! He doesn’t overbook his appointments, he takes the time to LISTEN to what you are saying… he is kind, understanding and available. What more can you ask for in an OBGYN?

If I was forced to move anywhere else in this country, and quite possibly in the world, I would purchase a plane ticket to keep my yearly visits with Dr. Welch.
Not only does he have a great sense of humor, he truly cares for the problems experienced by a pregnant (as well as a non-​pregnant) female. I had a high risk pregnancy and if not for Dr. Welch, I’m afraid my baby and I would have been worse off, or possibly not made it at all. He practically held my hand the last 2 months of my pregnancy and was honest with me the entire time. He has no idea how much he means to me. Top notch physician here ladies!
Compared to other GYNs in the area — Dr. Welch is king. He has a great attitiude, bedside manner, easy to talk to… the list goes on and on.
I almost hesitate to write this review, as it is so easy to make appointments right now I don’t want to screw it up for myself, but at the same time all women deserve a caring OB/​GYN like Dr. Welch so I can’t keep him for myself. :-)

Very personable, private practice physician. After moving to town from LA I wanted to find a doctor who was the antithesis of the practictioner that I had there, with their packed waiting rooms, overbooking, stressed-​out staff etc. Visting my former OB felt like a trip to the DMV and I always dreaded going. In Dr. Welch’s practice I found a very friendly, accomodating staff, considerate of MY time for a change,
and a knowledgeable doctor who seems to genuinely love what he does;how refreshing.
