Eden is the regional trauma center for Southern Alameda County and home to the Sutter East Bay Neuroscience Institute. Eden features many centers of excellence, including orthopedics, rehabilitation, breast imaging, childbirth, women’s health, stroke care, and cancer care. Eden has been recognized for outstanding quality, including a «Top Performer» designation by The Joint Commission, Superior ICU designation and the Certificate of Excellence award from the California Hospital Assessment and Reporting Task Force (CHART), an honor recognizing exceptional performance in health care quality in 50 categories.
With a new facility opened in December 2012, Eden Medical Center brings together patient-centered care, state-of-the-art technology, and sophisticated design in a LEED-certified sustainable and seismically-safe building.
History
Established in 1954.
In 1948, a dedicated group of community leaders created the Eden Township Healthcare District and launched plans to build a district hospital. Area voters overwhelmingly approved this blueprint for the future, and passed two bond measures to achieve their goal. At a cost of just over $ 2 million, Eden Township District Hospital was built. The first patient was admitted on Nov. 15, and the first baby was welcomed two days later.
Eden affiliated with Sutter Health in 1997, a decision that was supported by voters in what was then the second largest special election in the state of California.
Planning for a new hospital began in the mid-1990s in preparation for new laws governing seismic safety in California hospitals. After more than a decade of planning, designing and constructing, the new Eden Medical Center opened on December 1, 2012, funded entirely by Sutter Health with additional enhancement from private donations.
