For what they are, Portales is top-notch! Great food, great value, great people behind the counter. From burritos to the salsa, nachos to all the rest, your taste buds will be happy. I’d like to see them in a busier location, Portales deserves the attention. So when you’re too tired to cook and hungry, run on down to Portales and get your fill. They could use an update to their interior, but does it honestly matter? Enjoy!

Okay so I had order some tacos from here before and I loved them, but the time I had went with a friend, I saw the man at the cash register preparing a burrito without even washing his hands! I understand if you forget but he just rung me up and touched the money, and now he was working on another customers food? Wow. Code violation for sure.

Incredible services and attention! Great food, well cooked and well seasoned but not over the top. Meat, veggies and tortillas where all fresh!

Found this place on Unilocal.Reviewers were correct, Rosa was super nice and attentive. The food was GOODGOODGOOD! My extra picky six-year-old LOVED his burrito. Loved the location… convenient and right off the freeway. We will definitely be back here again.

How is this place a 4 star? The burrito was a supreme and looked like a bean burrito from Taco Bell. Skimped on the meat and loaded it with beans and rice. I specifically said I’ll pay more for meat and there was no difference with a regular we ordered. Salsa was typical can type. Would not go again.

What an awesome find while on the road south to Yosemite! The Mister and I spied the little table outside, and decided that we(accompanied by our furry companion) would be having lunch right there. The entire staff was SO friendly and welcoming, than even if the food hadn’t been fantastic(which it was), I’d still have been hard pressed not to review them well. I had the pork tamale special(which came with refried beans and rice), and the Mister had a variety of tacos, as well as a taco salad. The chips and salsas available were a nice addition for two hungry travelers, and the prices were great. Note the minimum of $ 20 to run a credit card… and bring cash if you’re just popping in for a quick, small bite, because $ 20 makes for a good bit of food!

The lady at the counter was super nice, and offered free chips and salsa to go with the enchiladas verde that I’d phoned in to order to go. The food was ready for me when I got there and I’d called less than ten minutes before I got there. The enchiladas, though, were underwhelming. I tried one chicken and one beef. The chicken was pretty bland, and the beef less bland. The guacamole they served with it was really runny. The refried beans, actually I can’t even remember tasting them though I ate them all. The chips were a bit hard and tasted a little stale, though I was there just before closing. All told, not the best enchiladas, bit they weren’t bad… I ate everything…

This place has a lot of good reviews so I came here for lunch. As I walked in I noticed that most of the tables were dirty and it wasn’t that busy. I ordered a wet burrito with steak and my girl ordered a grilled chicken burrito. Once we received our food I thought that my plate looked good. But once I started eating I found that I had to keep adding salt since I felt like the meat was a little bland. It was a good size burrito and I was full but I wasn’t content. The chips tasted stale and a little hard. Overall everything was just ok at best. I don’t think that I will be coming back here. Lots of other people say this place is good but I’m going to have to disagree.

Great food and EXCELLENT customer service! Every time I go in here, the same person greets me and is always extremely polite(so sorry I don’t know her name, but she might be the owner? Nice lady… short, gray hair… anyway…). For once, I decided to park in the back to enter the taqueria so I went inside. They were closed for cleaning as they had just finished hosting a fund raiser for the local high school. I was totally fine to go somewhere else… no problem… BUT, they made my burrito for me ANYWAY, even though they were closed! AWESOME… I was really wanting one and they totally came through. Thanks Taqueria Portales! See you next time(hopefully when you’re actually open!). :)

I don’t get what the hype is about. The food isn’t great. The staff is definitely friendly but don’t limit a girl and her salsa. The two cup rule need to be abolished.

They don’t make carne asada fries but they said they would make them for me! I’ll update the review when I taste them very soon!

Delicious eats here! Shared a super burrito with the fiancé. We got a carnitas burrito with everything with a side of guacamole and chips. It was very filling! I thought the carnitas and chips were a little too salty for my taste but having a drink on the side helped. We ordered an horchata which was divine! Not too sweet and very refreshing. Would definitely come back to try their tacos, plates, or breakfast options. Staff were super friendly and seemed helpful for first timers. Note: They have a credit card minimum of $ 20!

Place is very Mexican and authentic inside(being Mexican myself, from my point of view) the woman working the register was nice but a bit unknowable. We asked about several ingredients to which the response the shoulder shrugs. Regardless the food was not bad, price was reasonable only downside was the quality of guacamole which we were charged $ 1.50 for paste, not real guac. Overall good meal, fast service, average at best Mexican restraunt.

Definitely BETTER then most local mexican places. Amazing customer services Super affordable Light(not greasy what so ever) Is it the BEST mexican food you will ever EAT? Or is a spot YOU have to go before you DIE?. .. No. However! If you are in Castro Valley and are hungry. You should definitely visit. I know when I’m hungry and don’t have time to cook. This will definitely be my go to spot.

Very friendly staff and the place feels very homely. The food is amazing, and not over priced. Great selection of entrees or light eats. Wide variety of drinks, very impressed. Pretty quiet in the afternoon.

We were definitely satisfied and full with our order of quesadillas suiza and burrito al pastor! The horchata together with the complimentary freshly made chips were the perfect accompaniment! I only wish that they offered tripa and lengua in their selection but overall, we know where to go when we crave Mexican food!(Definitely not Chipotle.)

Awesome awesome awesome! Seriously good Mexican food in generous portions at great prices. We have the privilege of living right down the road and have gone here at least 20 times. Never leave disappointed. Highly recommend! Also the owners are extremely friendly and actually appreciate your business.

Great great service! After reading all the reviews I’m sure it was Rosa who helped us. She was incredibly kind and really did treat us like family! I got the camarones(shrimp) with bell peppers, onions and served with beans & rice. Flavors were a little lacking but since I was starving, I scarfed that all down. On the the other hand, their carne asada burrito was great!!! Tried some of my mom’s and it was so tender and juicy and smoky. Mmm! Free chips and salsa too with a purchase of $ 6.50 or more. Gracias Rosa!!!
