Business Owner

Dr. Nelson received his Doctor of Optometry degree from the University of California, School of Optometry; and has been in private practice for over 30 years. He was an assistant clinical professor at the School of Optometry at Berkeley for 13 years. He has done research on the cornea and contact lenses. He is experienced in fitting complicated contact lenses, such as custom-​made Rigid Gas Permeable lenses and SynergEyes medically necessary contacts.

Dr. Nelson examines patients of all ages for eyeglasses, contact lenses, and is licensed in diagnostic and therapeutic drugs to treat a number of eye injuries and disorders. Dr. Nelson works with Dr. Mark Mandel to co-​manage laser refractive surgery or cataract operations. He is a member of the American Optometric Association, California Optometric Association, Bay Area Optometric Council, and is a member of the contact lens section of the American Optometric Association.

I made an appointment a while back for Saturday morning. There was some error with my appointment, and I suspect it was probably with me since I’ve been confusing my appointments. The staff and Dr. Wong accommodated me early in the morning at 8:30. I was out the door by 9:30am to relieve my husband of his duties. Everyone was helpful and explained in detail my prescription to cost for frames. I would definitely come back and recommend anyone to this office.

I left the office with a smile on my face the whole staff was very pleasant, and the doctor was very informative! It’s nice to walk into a happy positive environment and walk out feeling like everyone genuinely cares about you, I will definitely be back next year for my annual eye exam.

I’ll always be grateful to Dr. Nelson and his staff. I visited his office for a number of years and always received excellent help. Upon his retiring he leaves a capable Dr. Wong and staff to continue onward. This optometrist office is up to date with the latest in examination of eye care and treatment.

Doctor Wong is very nice but the staff leaves something to be desired. I have only been a customer for two years. I didn’t really feel like the staff then but I thought the doctor was really nice so I stayed. But my second visit I had a problem getting my glasses back after I left them there to have new lenses but in. After twos I called to see if my glasses were ready and I kept getting the run around from the staff. I finally had to just go in and sit in the lobby and after two searches they finally found my glasses. I will not be going back there

I have been coming to Vision Gallery for over 23 years. I’m sad to say after today I think I will need to make a change. Not because of Dr Nelson or Dr Wong but because of some of their office help.
It is such a shame that Stephanie is now only working Monday’s. Good for her to be with her new baby! Congrats! But she is missed… especially her professionalism.
But the customer service side of this business is and has been slipping year over year :(
Example: I was standing at the front desk waiting to pick up my contacts and one of the gals behind the desk shot (on purpose) a rubber band at the young lady helping me. I said whoa… Where did that come from??? and she pointed to the gal to the left of her saying from the jokester! Mind you having fun at work is fine but when you are doing this in front of patients it’s NOT. If that would have overshot its intended mark and hit me that is not a good thing.
And it’s not just this incidence… obviously. But, just the lackadaisical attitude and lack of follow up and communication from the office to their patients. Which is crucial to great customer service and client/​patient retention.
Maybe I will call and speak with Dr Nelson because I know he would not appreciate this behavior from some his office staff. Especially if it means he is loosing a very long standing patient.

«Whaaaaaaat.»
That was my reaction leaving this eye glass place this morning. IN A GREAT WAY THOUGH! I have some knock off club master sunglasses that lost a screw so one of the legs wasn’t attached anymore… So I first went to Mel’s repair in the village where they had an eyeglass repair kit with only 4 different sizes of screws, and I wasn’t even allowed to see if any of them would fit. It was $ 2.50 and I finally gave in and asked to purchase but they didn’t accept a debit card because it was such a low purchase. So they recommended me to go the Vision Gallery around the corner! I did and asked if they had screws, and the nice lady at the front told me to sit down, and that an eye consultant would be right with me. An eye consultant by the name of Santa (I think that’s how you spell it; Latina woman) took my glasses to the back and 5 minutes later brought them out cleaner than ever, with a screw tightly in place and the glasses looking good as new. I was literally over joyed because I was treated so kindly and professionally even though I was just a kid coming in looking to repair my $ 15 sunglasses that I love dearly. I was a little nervous because I wasn’t sure how much the charge would be. They said, «No charge today, just come to us when you need an eye exam.» I SURE AS HELL WILL. THANK YOU SO MUCH YOU LITERALLY MADE MY DAY.

An hour and a half and counting. For a contact lens fitting. Not to mention $ 20 up charge per box of lenses. Went here for years when the practice was new, used to be great. Not so much now.

I really like Vision Gallery. The been coming here for about two years and the staff is very friendly and the doctors are excellent. I’ve had Dr. Atkinson and Dr. Nelson, they were both helpful and Dr. Nelson taught me things about my eyes that I did not know. This place has a lot more upto date machines than other optometrist offices I’ve been to which makes for better eye exams and better at catching any signs of early eye problems.
The biggest thing I appreciated about Vision Gallery was their sanitation. Every single time I went to a different machine the girl wiped it down with a new alcohol wipe.
They carry lots of high end brands such as Gucci, Fendi, Juicy Coutoure and tons more. What girl doesn’t want top of the line glasses?

I’ve been going here only a few years. I really like Dr Nelson — he is very courteous and patient. He gets 5 stars. But, when it comes to getting the prescription glasses, I feel like I’m being taken to the cleaners. This is supposedly covered by my insurance. But, if I want glasses with a frame — that seems to cost extra. The lenses too. It just seems like they are very focused on getting every possible $ that they can. My free glasses seem to end up costing about $ 500. I guess it’s their job. But, they make me feel like they are interested in my money and not me. Maybe they just need acting lessons.

The Vision Gallery staff is great. Dr. Nelson is kind, gentle, and very concerned about your vision health. The office has all the latest and greatest testing equipment including the Optimap retinal photo machine used instead of dilation drops.
I only wish it didn’t take a week to 10 days to get your glasses. Thanks for making eye exams and visits a happy adventure.

I just got my first set of specs from this here place – they have a good selection IMO. I have no vision coverage, so the cost is very pricey – however, they did give me a discount since I ordered regular specs and sunglasses. My mini goes here as well, so now it’s in the family to come here for our vision needs.
I like both Dr. Nelson & Dr. Wong a lot. The rest of the staff here – I have not yet experienced to be rude, actually for all the times we’ve gone to the office, they have been helpful and friendly.

Excellent service… honest, knowledgeable, and professional. Dr. Nelson goes above and beyond to find just the right prescription and product for his patients… not just another high priced optometric center that pushes the most expensive choices. Walked in on a whim last year, as I was unsatisfied with the horrible attitude and service I got elsewhere. Now I won’t be going anywhere else!

I’ve always gone here but recently moved to Concord and tried a new optometrist closer to home. What a mistake. I’ll be coming back with my tail between my legs.
And the girls at the office are very friendly and helpful. I’ve always felt very welcome at this office despite what other reviewers say.

We have gone here a few times. The Dr. we see is great. The front office help can be gossipy sometimes and seem to get confused on our dual coverage insurance every time. It takes several people to look at it and figure out what we owe each time we are there.

This Is The Only Place I Have Ever Gone To, Since Living In The Bay Area. Good For What’s It’s For. The Vision Specialists And Assistants Are Nice And The Store Has A Nice Selection Of Glasses, But $$$$$$$ And The Girls Behind The Counter Are Rude As Hell.
