Out’n’About Treehouse Treesort

The Treehouses are amazing!!! Getting to some of them is inconvinient and heads-​up — you’ll use a pully system to move your luggage to your treehouse, for a few of them. My family really enjoyed our stay, yet there were a few slight disappointments. P. S. Ziplining was AMAZING!!!
1) our breakfast wasn’t AT ALL what they said it would be. We had 2 types of bagels and 3 types of cereal to choose from. We even ran out of cream cheese on the first morning there. The website, Unilocal,and the lady helping us book said there would a large «hot buffet style breakfast with scrambled eggs, waffles, and more». Then, our «kitchen fairy» even asked our five year old if she knew how read, as she held up her tip jar and said, «it says tips for the kitchen fairy»! WHAT!!! That was just rude and an awful way to hint you want a tip for bringing out the bagels and taking our plates away.
2)The washing machine was broke, so we were unable to do our laundry.
3)We stayed in the Majestry (AWESOME!!!), which has a queen bed and two twins. It was perfect for ourselves and our 5 & 3 year old. Upon check out they charged us for extra people in the treehouse (our kids). So, heads up $ 15 per night for kiddos. I checked about our 3 year old, and they reversed his charges, which we appreciated (they said they charge starting at age four). But we had to pay $ 15 a night for our five year old.
4) There were no stage activities as there are in the spring, summer, and fall months. So, we WILL come back, but it’ll be during those seasons.

We got here very late at night after spending too much time with the tax free outlets… We stayed at Forestree tree house, beds are comfy, the treehouse wasn’t that cold (they have heat if you need it), and the kids did Zip-​lines (from 6 to 16 yrs old) and the Tarzan swing… overall we had a great time here, wished we could have stayed another day to explore the caves nearby!
Some of the tree houses were high, some just near ground, I guess depends on your fear level which one you want to do! but it’s better to do the most challenging one and not regret that you didn’t go for the high one … it’s fun, just do it!
Breakfast comes with an overnight stay, eggs, toast bread, fruits, orange juice etc …

My boyfriend surprised me with a trip to go Zip-​lining. We didn’t stay over, though I hope to do at some point.
This was my first time zip-​lining and i would suggest it to anyone who is new to zip-​lining. The fun, interesting ad well trained staff put an emphasis on safety that made me feel safe. They also have a practice line so you can practice how it all works. Nice to practice ten feet off the ground and not 50 or 100.
Absolute beautiful setting in the trees. We did the short course thogh I am sure next time we will do the longer one. Fun fun fun!
The only draw back is the number of times you zip into the valley and have to walk back up. Its a lot more fun to zip from tree to tree. Also, it was HOT when we went and no offer of water anywhere, and honestly I am a little out of shape, so by we got to the last line, I was too hot to continue. They were great and took me to get water, but I have up a line to get water, and that doesn’t seem fair. My BF did the last one though – at 40 mph!!1
I only wish they were closer– its over 4 hours each way. I also would love to see some package deals.
GREAT staff!
OH, and they need some sort of food on site or to tell you there isn’t any before you get there.

Spent our 1 year Anniversary at this wonderful treesort! The staff is great; the treehouses are AWESOME and the activities are very memorable. Ellie was our breakfast chef and the food was delicious. The Tarzan swing is a must do! We will be back! and looking forward to it. Highly Recommend! They also have disc golf, horse shoe pits, an area to bbq, and a natural pool!

We spent two nights in the Lily Pad tree house. It’s small but super charming. 47 feet in the air. Sandy the owner is super friendly and makes an all homemade breakfast. If you arrive at night there will be white lights all wrapped around the tree house. Love the ambiance.

Sleeping in a treehouse? Where do I sign up?!?
When I learned of this place, my bf and I knew that we had to spend one night here during our road trip! They have a 2 night minimum stay… which didn’t really work with our roadtrip schedule. However, they told us that if we called within a week of when we wanted to stay, that if it was available, then we could do a one night stay. It was even better because we were also given a discounted rate. We stayed in the Calveltree for $ 100 instead of the regular $ 150 rate. They have many treehouses, about 10 or so and they are each built differently with different decorations and different themes.
Our Cavaltree was a 2 story treehouse with FIVE beds! Of course we only used 1 bed since there was just the 2 of us — I think that’s why we also were given a discounted rate. It’s a family owned business and they are all very nice. You can explore the areas and suspension bridges but obviously, you can’t enter the treehouses that are occupied. Breakfast is also included in the morning. Our breakfast consisted of scrambled eggs, potatoes, scones, quiches, bread pudding, coffee, tea, and juice. It wasn’t a bad breakfast at all but I would have loved for some sausage and bacon! lol.
The «Treesort» is located basically in the middle of nowhere. It’s about an hour from Oregon Caves and about 1 hour from the California border. Checking in was very easy and so was checking out. Check-​in time is from 3−5pm, but if you check in late like we did, just call them ahead of time and they will set everything up for you!
This treesort is amazing. Although our particular treehouse did not have a bathroom, there was no lack of facilities. Some treehouses have a bathroom, but the rate for those are over $ 200. They have all amenities ready for you, including BBQ grills and a kitchen! They have a separate house built that has a microwave, fridge, convection oven, ice machine, plates, bowels, eating utensil, napkins, and sink! Also, I believe every treehouse has a mini-​fridge. Ours had a mini-​fridge and it was great! There were also 2 full bathrooms that we found with showers. There is also an «outhouse» with just a bathroom — however, it’s much nicer than a typical outhouse. They also have about 4 or 5 propane grills all set up and ready for use. Some people were grilling and it smelled soooo good! There is also a fire pit with chairs and benches set up, as well as some swinging chairs. I felt like a kid again!
The treehouses are so clean! Our treehouse was spotless! There is no AC, but it was cold at night so no AC needed! There is a fan, paper towels, and towels set up in the room for you. Power outlets are plentiful and they have had an outlet with USB ports!
I recommend this as a different experience! I would stay here again, but I think it’s more fun if you go with a group as this is basically a very glamorized version of camping. No TV’s in the room… but you are supposed to be enjoying the outdoors anyways! There are lots of horses on the property and ziplining as well.
I think it’s amazing that this place was not build by an engineer. The owner is a physician assistant and this was his dream. He did an amazing job with the treehouses! They are very stable and beautiful! It’s worth checking out!

We are on our way back to CA and already miss this place. We got the suite and it was nice – but not one of the high treehouse ones. This was the only one available for our weekend that also has a bathroom. Activities were well carried out. We did the zip line — the kiddos love it so much –we came back the second day to zip again. My youngest daughter cried and was a bit afraid — Ms. Ashley was kind enough to ride with her. Customer service was awesome.
Breakfast was more than I expected for a deep in the woods place.
Only drawback is that it was soooooo far away. We had to drive 16 hours to get there. They need more locations closer to southern ca;)

I first heard about the Treehouse resort about 10 – 15 years ago, and ever since; I’ve wanted to go and stay a night! I talked my boyfriend into staying a night with my two young nephews for a surprise vacation, thinking that this could be a great adventure.
We chose to stay before Memorial Day weekend, allowing us to stay the 1 night minimum. (During the busy part of the year, they have a 2 night minimum stay) The Treehouse resort has 15 different treehouses that are available for overnight stays. We decided to stay in The Tree Room Schoolhouse Suite because it offered a kitchen and full bathroom. With two boys ages 3 and 5, we thought it would be best to have an easily accessible bathroom.
We drove into the campground and my 5 year old nephew asked where we were. I pointed up and asked if he knew what we were looking at. He looked puzzled and I said, «They’re treehousese! And… we’re going to sleep here tonight!» He had the biggest smile on his face as it all sunk in. We woke up his little brother and stepped out of the car.
We arrived after standard check-​in time so had all of the pertinent information posted specifically for our party. As we were looking at the bored, we were approached by three young boys running up to us. Fellow campers! We saw a campfire nearby, with about 10 other campers sitting around it.
We decided to grab a small wagon and loaded our items so that we could carry them to our treehouse for the evening. We were staying at the back half of the campground, just a short walk from where we parked. Walking into the treehouse, we were in love. We had a large wood deck with chairs, table and gas BBQ. There was a separate room with a queen bed, sink and door. We had a small kitchen and seating area. There was a living room with futon convertible bed. Best of all was a loft above the living room, complete with mattress pads and sleeping bags. The boys LOVED this but ended up sleeping on the futon couch because they were a little scared to sleep up so high =)
We quickly dropped our stuff of and went to the campfire to make dinner and explore a bit. We cooked over the campfire and played on the rope swing. We headed to bed shortly after, ready for the next day.
Waking up, we went to eat breakfast which was great. French toast, quiche, juice and a few other things. Breakfast is included with the stay, which is great since there’s not a lot nearby. Make sure to bring food if you’re planning to stay awhile! Then we played the rest of the morning, on the rope swing, on the suspension bridges, amongst the other trees. We went behind the stables and fed hay to the horses, spending time petting them. The boys played with the other kids all over the campground. The size of the campground was great. The kids could run all over and when we wanted them, we could easily yell for them to return to us.
The site does offer ziplining and horseback riding, but my nephews were to young to experience this. Hopefully we’ll get to come back in a few years!

This place is amazing!
We got in a bit late but they were super nice about it and sorted things out for us. We were staying in the yurt and loved everything about it. Definitely felt the cold but if you fill the beds it would be plenty warm.
Breakfast in the morning was incredible. Very homely.

Stayed here for my man who LOVES treehouses. Me? I am deathly afraid of heights. Of course I chose one of the highest ones (the Forestree) to stay in. I had to cross two suspension bridges to get to to it.
And ya know what? It was a blast. Yes, it was scary as hell to get to the tree house, but really fun once inside.
The staff is helpful and nice.
Be sure to bring food. There isn’t a lot around there and what is, isn’t that close.
Overall, a great and unique, once in a lifetime experience.

This is the most amazing place. I felt like I was at a family reunion but everyone were strangers… Super friendly strangers. The staff were amazingly patient with the «girls weekend» that brought me and my friends here. The employees were the sweetest people ever. We chit chatted with them every chance we got.
There are so many things to do on-​site to include ziplines (heck yeah!), horseback riding, Tarzan swing, horseshoes, volleyball, and a pool.
The treehouses are each unique. Some have electricity and bathrooms inside. I love that I can now say I showered in a real treehouse. The tree way sky bridges are fun to walk across too.
The breakfasts include a variety of quiches, muffins, scrambled eggs, bread pudding, cereal, toast, waffles, French toast, and so on. The kitchen staff work their tails off to serve the guests. There are several family kitchen tables so be sure to pull up a seat and eat with the other guests. You will be glad you did!!! So many new friends to be made!!!
There are seriously so many good things to say about this place. I could go on and on. I honestly cannot think of anything negative to say.

My kids and I visted the Teehouse resort this past Monday and Tuesday nights. We stayed in the Yuritree. I saw this place on the travel channel and thought it woud be ideal for my 9 and 11 year old daughters. and it was! So cool and unique. This place is very family oriented. Tons of kids running free looking at horses, swinging on the swings, picking berries, etc. This place was actually nicer than I expected. Rustic yet has electricity, refrigerators, clean linens in your treehouse and was clean. I cannot recommend enough. However, I’m afraid to! When we checked out we were told the Majestree was booked out 1 year in advance! What a magical wonderful place!

Just prepare to carry food (or preferably ingredients) for the lunch/​dinner unless you plan to take a 20min drive to find any option to eat. They have a lot of vessels, burners, grills to cook.
The breakfast was good, home-​cooked (waffle, blueberry muffin was awesome, quiche, scrambled egg), but lacked variety.
A little on the costlier side ($ 270 per night)
Did the ziplines ($ 90 per person for the 9-​zips as the only option), was a little costly. Wish they had a fewer zip option. Tarzan swing is fun too.

First off, I’m not a camper! But, this is the perfect camping experience for me. There are a number of different treehouses on the ‘treesort’ that you can choose from. All have different amenities, so don’t assume you’ll have plumbing or electricity in them.
It’s tucked away in southern OR in a beautiful wooded area. The grounds are really cool with rope swings, places to climb and run in a comfortable setting. They have a fire pit with lots of wood, there are ziplines (a little pricey, but GREAT), horses, picnic tables, and such a family friendly vibe.
It’s a bed and breakfast, so they serve a decent breakfast. There was no meat in the 5 days we were there, which I didn’t like, so next time I’ll remember to bring my own bacon or sausage. Otherwise, it’s decent. You have to plan for the other meals of the day. There is a general refrig for everyone to store items in, and they even have some cups, flatware, cooking utensils, etc. there. BUT, I would still bring my own. I brought a slow cooker, cutting knifes, serving platters, etc. that I used in this common mini-​house/​kitchen and I’m glad I did. It’s an honor system on cleaning the dishes. We also had a mini-​fridge in our treehouse (not sure if they are in every one!). You should do your shopping before arriving because they have a small market about 30 minutes away. Otherwise, you’ll be spending more of your time away from the grounds than enjoying it.
There’s a main house, where you check in and where they serve breakfast that also has a TV with satelite (which you probably will barely use, but at least you won’t have to be completelydisconnected), lots of board games and books on trees and treehouses. We spent a lot of time reading, playing games with our kids and just relaxing in there.
This is definitely a place to go to reconnect with your family. We met up with friends there and had the BEST time. We also brought our bikes and enjoyed riding there. It is worth the trip.
It feels very safe to let the kids run and explore, without standing right over them. I’m very fearful of bears, and I’ve been assured that they have made very rare appearances in this area. I was told that they don’t like the noise of the zip-​lines (they are not noisey but bears don’t like it), there are dogs on the property, and I heard that they don’t like horses (not sure about this one!). I didn’t see any signs of them, and this was the second time I went. The first time I heard the dogs run off a deer in the night. I was glad to know for sure that it was a deer because multiple campers told me they saw it.
It was all good EXCEPT, the bridges are very noisey at night, and I was awaken by them a few times. I’m sure someone was using them to go to the common bathroom (I had one in my room), but I’d bring ear plugs next time.
It’s a little pricey! But, I think it’s worth the cost for the experience. AND, some of the treehouses that they rent out have a sign on them that says «Not safe for sleeping» or something like that. I asked about it and was told that it’s due to the problems that the county (Josephine) has with them, but that they have been deemed safe. Either way, I’d avoid those. And, on one of those, I noticed that they had plastic covering an opening on it, which made me think there may be water issues.
They also have free wi-​fi and they have a laptop for general usage. Even with all the bad, I’d still highly recommend.

I had such a blast here. I went with two friends and we stayed in the Peacock Perch, the closest to the fire pit and lodge. We heard what was going down at the pit but everyone was respectable. They provide a amazing breakfast and very accessible with those with special diets. The staff was friendly, not overtly but appropriate friendly. I would say this is a family place and close camping to one another. So if you like adult activities I would suggest requesting the tree house furthest away.
BUT by far the ziplines is the best… The actual course very fun BUT the staff of the zip lines… awesome; super flirty, good looking, very knowledgeable and I felt safe. I will be talking about his trip for awhile and those zip line guys (And girls)… The drive to the caves and to town we did and was not long and we had a great time when we to town.
Also great hikes all around, and this resort was a nice home base. Next time I want take over the whole resort… I should save some money!

Should I start with what went right or what went wrong?
Right, it is… This is one of those unique lodging options I’ve wanted to try with the family for years. Hello, sleeping in a treehouse. How great is that?!? However, during the high season (summer), it frequently requires a 2– or 3-​night minimum which doesn’t work with our driving trips to and from California.
This Spring Break we decided to take a more leisurely drive south and had time to stay at some interesting places along the way.
There are many different tree house options and after browsing the website, I thought the Swiss Family was best for two adults and two children. It was pretty cool, but the kids’ tree house was definitely tiny. My 10-​year old could reach out his arms and touch every wall, so it really works better for younger kids.
The grounds are pretty cool. They offer horseback riding, zipline tours, a swimming enclosure that is a segregated part of a stream in the summer, fire pit, stage and large field for disc golf or just romping around. Even though we didn’t sign up for the zipline tour, across the field there is a large rope swing (by the Profanitree) and mini zipline that was really entertaining for the kids.
Breakfast was very good. Definitely far surpasses your average continental breakfast. There were scrambled eggs, two types of quiche, muffins and waffles, in addition to cereal and fruit. It was a highlight of the visit. We didn’t take a zipline tour because it was raining buckets, but my son did take a one-​hour trail ride ($ 40) and had a good time.
On to the not-​so-​good part of the review. The staff was really ‘interesting.’ From my very first conversation on the phone to make a reservation and continuing throughout our stay, there was not just oddness but open hostility between staff members. None of this was shielded terribly well from the guests. After all, everything is open air here. So I know we all have times we aren’t thrilled with our co-​workers, but wow, the things I heard. And it wasn’t just me. The other guests and I would look at each other and mouth, «Did you just hear that?» repeatedly.
It is especially odd because this place is going for the hippie, peace, love and happiness vibe, but there was a lot of tension around the place.
I think the Treesort would be most enjoyable with a group, otherwise your mileage will vary depending on the other guests. One of the other reviewers mentioned that members of their group were being hushed by the caretaker. Our tree house was one of the closest to the fire pit and I can confirm that if people are chatting by the fire late into the night, a number of tree houses will hear it. Even though the group was trying to ‘keep it down,’ some voices just carry. We didn’t complain because we packed earplugs, so it wasn’t that big a deal.
The other issue was a staff member’s dog that roamed the resort and more than once jumped up and bit a child. One of those kids was mine. It required parental intervention to get the dog off my child and when I reported it to the staff, I was brushed off. They knew right away which dog I meant and said, «Oh, it is just a puppy.» Which I totally get as a dog owner, but as a guest and parent I think, then maybe this dog shouldn’t be allowed to roam off leash until it is under control. People have all sorts of levels of tolerance when it comes to animals and what one person views as playfulness and a torn sweater, another views as a threat, especially young children. They also go out of their way to say «No Pets» for their guests.
Overall, a very interesting stay. I would return, especially now that I know more about what to expect and I’ll be more prepared to fully enjoy what Out’n’About has to offer.
A few tips:
– It is essentially camping. But rather than pitch a tent or stay in a yurt, you will climb or sway (swinging bridge) into a tree house and there is bedding. Tree houses are warmed by space heaters.
– You are really away from it all. I knew Cave Junction was a small town, but I didn’t realize it was 10 miles away from the resort. So you really need to plan ahead and bring all your own food and toiletry items. There is no general store on site, so anything you forget requires a long drive into town. Grills are provided at the resort for a BBQ.
– Print out a map. I figured I could get to Cave Junction, then just follow signs to the resort, not realizing (a) it is so far from town with multiple turns, and (b) there are no signs. So definitely print out the directions or you’ll need to call and get them from the staff.
– Bring earplugs. Voices carry at night.

This place is like an overgrown hippie commune michael-​jackson-​esque trippy paradise. The treehouses are engineering marvels of efficiency, cramming about as much space as possible inside. We rented the Mastree bedroom, because we needed to sleep 6 adults. This unit is actually part of the main lodge building (which we knew), and has a bridge connecting to an outside gazebo-​unit with a sleeping loft (super cool) and outside stairs. We saw one of the other up-​high units, which had two bunks and a sleeping loft, and its own bathroom, and that was really neat also. Ours was really a normal hotel room — one large queen bed, a full futon, a full lower bunk + single upper bunk, plenty of drawer/​closet space and a good-​sized ensuite bathroom w/​sink, toilet and shower. Central heat, etc. — if you are at all skittish about camping, this is definitely a good choice. Boyfriend and I slept two of our three nights outside in the sleeping loft, which was super fun and more «camp-​y.» Want to go back and stay in the higher-​up ones!
Nice amenities provided. The blankets are down (and plentiful), sheets are soft, pillows are full and numerous. The outside loft had two very cushy inflatable pads already there. Towels in the bathroom are adequate but not big or soft — glad we brought our own. No little soaps/​shampoos, make it a point to remember those. This unit also has a college dorm-​style fridge. Beds are pretty comfy, and everything was very clean and well-​maintained. The outdoor units and things had little space heaters (nice touch).
The main lodge was the center of activity during the day/​morning, but we also used it in the evening to play board games and hang out — there’s a couple tables, a couch, and a wood-​burning stove (and a cooler with drinks for purchase). In the morning, Steve makes a spectacular, to-​die-​for-​oh-​god breakfast, which is usually included (I think they have options that don’t include breakfast, too). It’s worth it… eggs, fluffy quiche, waffles, toast, cereal, fruit, cottage cheese, homemade bread pudding, muffins, scones, along with fruit, juice, coffee, milk, etc. Get your lazy asses out of bed, though, because breakfast is done by about 9:30. Oh, they say «10,» and Steve will make you something special if you straggle in late, but really, the action (and the best of the food) is out the door by 8:30−9. Coffee/​tea/​etc. service starts at 7:30. You stagger in from your treehouse, grab a mug, and find a seat somewhere in the lodge, the kitchen, or out on the deck, or take your mug right on back to your treehouse.
Other than breakfast, we cooked our meals outside on the grills — lots of gas grills provided, do not bother bringing a grill, stove, or charcoal/​etc. The kitchen building has the basics: plates, silverware, mugs, a hotpot, a microwave, a sink + dish soap/​towels, an ice machine, a bunch of grill and kitchen utensils (and stuff like can openers, etc.), and basic spices (salt, pepper, other crap that people have left there).
The firepit outside, with some chairs and picnic tables, was definitely the social hub come sundown. We pretty much met everyone. They have plenty of chairs, wood for the fire, and skewers to make s’mores.
On one of the days the caretaker did come out and ask us to keep it down… but totally fairly, as I’m pretty sure it was past midnight and we were darn loud (and, frankly, drunk and a little rowdy), and people had started to disperse and go to bed. And he was polite about it. He did, however, refer to «quiet hours» or something like that, which I have NO idea what that’s about, since I did read through all the literature and never saw anything like that. Maybe it’s a local thing that they all know about. I agree with other poster that some sign should be posted (or that info should be mentioned in the welcome packet) if it is expected that you will be quiet after a particular time (other than normal politeness).
Boyfriend did ziplines. He got the «whole enchilada» and was not misled about price or options — the guides were great and he couldn’t say enough nice things. They seemed to be good with kids, too. Sign up the day before for activities.
This place is super neat. I would recommend it to anyone — but remember, you are in Oregon. People are weird, and quirky, and that’s just part of the charm. Just gotta roll with it if you want to enjoy it.
A final note: the house rooster, «Stu» (har har), will die, if I ever wake up at this resort not-​hung-​over enough to hunt him down at 6 a.m. and slit his horrible, squawking throat. This city girl can only take so much…

Its unique. If you’re still a child at heart… its magical. Yes… everyone there smokes herb but what else can you do??? The ziplines were awesome… the tarzan swing was breath taking. Breakfast was warm and hearty. I LOVED meeting people around the communal camp fire. I LOVE meeting new people and swapping stories.
It was honestly glorified camping, just up in trees… when we went it was off season and freezing cold… and our heater for our room was broken, so we «borrowed» the one from the community center… I don’t feel guilty :)
It was fun… I would do it again. And DEFINATELY if I had kids!!!
We came off season but the pool was beautiful and hand made of stone… but it was too cool… I hope to swim in it someday. And they had rafting trips and horseback riding.
The most entertaining part was the amount of people just living off unclaimed land on the way out to the resort. Lots of political propaganda on their houses but I know NONE of them owned the land they were on.

The Treesort tree-​house resort is a collection of tree-​house rooms for rent in southern Oregon about 50 minutes southwest from Grant’s Pass which is north of the CA border near Medford. There are several houses, even a tee-​pee «tree-​pee», plus a farm, a game room, horses, and other stuff. I can happily recommend the pizza place in town for dinner — Wild River Brewing & Pizza.
If you have kids and are traveling across the California border into Oregon then by all means check this out. Here is from their website:
