La Casa Don Miguel

Absolutely AMAZING Mexican food! Molcajete is delicious and includes a ton of food. The chile verde enchiladas are the best enchiladas I’ve ever had! Great customer service, you can’t go wrong with this place.

The place had a homely feel to it. We had excellent service.
I ordered horchata and the carne asada. I asked for it medium rare, it came medium rare. I was excited. Everything was as expected.
The place was a little funky but not in a scary way, one kind of expects that from a Mexican restaurant right?

Went again with several people. Would have said food and service were great; unfortunately, only 2 other couples in the restaurant and they came in after we were seated, were served their food before us and left. Service was EXTREMELY slow. Food was good until a LONG HAIR WAS FOUND IN THE COOKED batter of a chili rellano being eaten by a member of our party. Balance of meals being eaten were left. Disgusting.

The flatas were good. Carne Asada was ok but a little salty. Service could improve. Lack of communication between employees. Prices were standard & the green salsa was great!

I found myself passing thru Cedar City and stopped here after reading some reviews. Easily found along the main road. Very quaint and small restaurant and it is an actual house that you enter and eat in their dining room.
The entire staff that I talked to are related and all spoke Spanish to each other. The were friendly and courteous.
The chips and salsa were homemade and good. They even brought out a heated bean and cheese dip to go along with the red and green salsa.
My chicken flauta was very good and made with light, flaky tortillas.
If I was a South Utah local they would know me by name here.

Stopped in with some friends on our way to St. George and we had an excellent and authentic meal for lunch. The service was prompt and I love that they include bean dip with the chips instead of just salsa. Everything was delicious and the food even looked pretty!

Stopped in Cedar City for the Shakespeare Festival, after 5 days in Long Beach. The pork burrito chili verde here was better than twice the price in CA. Very friendly family ran restaurant. We will be back!

EXCELLANT lunch. Food was terrific, we ordered tortilla soup, a taco salad and the lunch special. All very good. The fried icecream for Deseret was killer. Chips and salsa very tasty and the warm bean dip to die for. Service was great. Oh I almost forgot also had a Margarita oh my. I will definitely stop there again when I am in the area. The owner greated us. All very nice. I would recommend this restaurant.

Don Miguel is a very interesting restaurant in my opinion it feels like you’re eating in a living room bathrooms were very weird, staff was not friendly but not rude. Food is was okay priced and tasted like a normal burrito.

Loved the green salsa, chips, and the nopales burrito — which was filled with cactus, green bell peppers, and onions in with a tangy and pleasing zing. Bonus points for the fresh slices of tomato and avocado that came on top. My partner enjoyed her chicken mole enchiladas also, although to be fair it looked a little dry and we had been hiking all day, so probably anything would have tasted amazing. Service was friendly, but we were the only table so not a fair comparison to other reviewers.

We were only in Cedar City for a couple nights so we hit the highest ranking spots on Unilocal,this place definitely does not deserve to be #2.
The «host stand» was in the back of the room when we walked in, kinda awkward…
One lady came and asked what we wanted to drink, no greeting but I guess she was just getting to the point…
Another lady took our order and a third lady brought refills and helped as needed.
The food was not good. The rice was very bland, the salsa had too much salt and the chips were extremely oily.
I ordered the chile rilleno. It seemed to have boxed mash potatoes either in it or something. The sauce was a little sweet for my liking but It was covered in cheese which was the best thing one plate.
Hubby ordered the chili Colorado and he didn’t even finish, which happens almost as often as a women is elected president (haha).
We had low expectations considering we are from So Cal and this place still wasn’t good.

I sincerely cannot understand how multiple people from SoCal liked this place enough to give it 5 stars. Maybe they just weren’t expecting to find Mexican food at all in such a predominantly Caucasian area? Maybe they’d only been eating Pringles & Slim Jims for the past few days on a road trip? Even then I wouldn’t be able to rate this place any higher.
I’m no stranger to good, authentic Mexican food, having eaten it in several different Mexican states, plus frequented places across California, New Mexico, and Texas. I’ve never met a type of regional Mexican cuisine I didn’t like. I eat it all, whether from high-​end spots or the humblest taco trucks. La Casa Don Miguel was not good.
Here’s a breakdown of what went into my rating.
Chips & salsa — 3
Hard to really eff up, but some have done it. The version here is decent. One semi-​boring, semi-​spicy red tomato salsa and one semi-​salty tomatillo. The latter was probably the best-​tasting thing we had.
Pollo a la crema — 2
Chicken, mushrooms & white onion sauteed in a slightly mealy cream sauce. Came with beans of your choice (I had black), which were decent, and Spanish rice, which was bland & dry. A tiny pile of shredded iceberg lettuce sat on the plate also. This wasn’t the worst meal I’ve ever had, but I probably wouldn’t order it again.
Mini-​combo beef taco — 1
First, this is a *hard-​shelled* taco; the menu doesn’t warn you. Again, maybe this is due to them being in a really white area. Still, you should warn someone before they accidentally order a deep-​fried, hard-​shelled taco from a supposedly authentic Mexican place. Inside the taco: shredded, shrunken dry meat that at one point might have been good; Kraft yellow shredded cheese; another few leaves of iceberg. Came with some decent refrieds and some rice. If we were at Jack in the Box getting tacos, well, ok then! At an actual Mexican restaurant, and for $ 7.49? Noooope.
Service — 3
The people who work here were nice enough, but service was extremely slow. Maybe they were down a person and abnormally busy for Sunday lunch, though there were a couple open tables — who knows. Extra star for being open on a Sunday, though.
Overall impression is that neither of us would likely be back again, unless maybe it was literally the only thing that was open. Maybe their burritos are better?

I can’t adequately describe how great the food at La Casa Don Miguel was! Having grown up and still living in Southern California (for 65 years) where Mexican restaurants abound, few compare with this family owned gem.
My parents told me that the first restaurant I visited at the age of two ultimately became my favorite Mexican food restaurant and the one to which I compare all Mexican restaurants. La Casa Don Miguel is among the best I’ve frequented.
If I didn’t live 450 miles from Cedar City, La Casa Don Miguel would be my go to restaurant.

One of our favorite Mexican places to eat. Try the supreme chimichanga. Or the chili releno. All delicious. Best salsa, red or green is super fresh. Also, the warm churros. It’s been around for 12 years and family owned.

I had my expectation a bit low. But I rele enjoyed the food. Especially the quantity they provide is more than adequate. The prices are very reasonable n totally worth the delicious filling food.

Been here 3 – 4 times. Feel bad I haven’t reviewed it until now. Fantastic homestyle cooking, a great selection, and a nice, casual café-​style vibe. Recently, I brought good friends visiting from Oregon and Germany here after a long day at Bryce Canyon. They absolutely LOVED it… talked about it all the way home.
Staff is friendly and courteous.
This place would grab some SERIOUS market share from the Mex food restaurant business in (larger) St George if they opened up a second place there. But maybe they like staying small and not expanding. Too bad for us because they are 45 min. away from our home.

The staff was very frinedly and the atmosphere was good, like eating in someone living room. The chips and salsa were delicious. The biggest issue i had was that we waited for a very very very long time to get out food.
My wife got some grilled chicken tacos, which were nothing special, but did come with a roasted green chilli like litterally a whole green chili which was very tasty! probably the tastiest part of any of our meals. A friend got the Tacos de crema or something like that, it was like a chicken taco with a sour cream/​mustardy sauce, and she said it was real good, but neither of us tried it, and i ordered the Carne Asada.
My steak was pretty good though not cooked the way i asked for (med-​rare) most places dont even ask how you want your carne asada, so i was impressed they did, but it came out very well done. It did have a decent taste but nothing special, and the biggest upside wa that all of the plates were very generous not just in size, but thay also included a lot of things that other places would charge extra for, like geuacamole, veggies, multiple salsas, and zanahorias en escabeche (the spicy pickled carrot veggie salsa stuff).
The beans and rice were pretty good too, but again nothing special. Everything was ok in price for the sizes that you get, but not great.
I would probably not eat here again, just because it wasnt anything special, and im sure there are better places in cedar city, it seems like there restaurant selection there is 45% pizza, 45% Mexica and 10% everything else, so im sure there are better ones.

The outside and inside are charming. The staff was friendly, and attentive. We ended up picking this Mexican restaurant because they were one of the few with alcohol. The Margaritas were tangy, and enjoyable. The food was average. It was a little bland for our taste. I did have cactus for the first time. The restrooms are very clean too. You won’t be disappointed, you just won’t be wowed if you like more complex flavors.

Can’t believe I haven’t checked in here or reviewed this place before since we’ve been eating here for years!
They have expanded their menu, dressed up their tables, and added complimentary warm bean dip with their usual tasty salsa and fresh chips.
They have nice original paintings, bright colored fabric curtains and decorations.
Service has always been good since it is a family owned restaurant. Their cook is quick with meals so we know eating in a time crunch won’t be a problem.
I love their enchiladas (especially with mole sauce), chicken tortilla soup, and flan. Tasty rice and beans. My husband usually gets shredded beef tacos and tamales. Their fajitas look and smell delicious.

Growing up in SoCal, I think I have a pretty good idea of what good Mexican food is. Surprise surprise when I find a place in Cedar City, Utah professing to be not only good Mexican food, but also Authentic, I had to try it.
During a roadtrip that I was on that got side tracked, we landed in this small city (it was too big to be called a town). Searching for something to eat we actually turned around and drove clear across town to get here, and I’m glad I did.
My partner and I decided on the Molcajete, on recommendation from Johnathan (turns out he’s the son of the owners). This things was huge! more than enough for the two people it was said to serve. We got the chicken asada meat choices, but they had pork and shrimp also. The whole thing was served in a lava bowl with the standard green peppers and onions, but this place also threw in mushrooms and whole grilled chilies (the mushrooms was an interesting twist, but it totally worked).
Additionally, they also serve some chips and salsa as you sit down. The red and green salsa that they serve are not hot at all for me, but you can ask for the hotter stuff which they will bring out. The bean dip is also very good!
