Cedar Grove Garden Center

I was directed here via Monrovia because I was in the market for several red twig dogwoods for my side yard. [After growing up without a backyard in Queens and since having moved to NJ, I have become a bit garden obsessed] I have visited a two other garden stores and each only had one in stock. Cedar Grove didn’t disappoint.
They had quite a few and all were in fabulous condition — lush, tall, with big, beautiful branches. I will say that overall, Cedar Grove’s prices are quite a bit higher than Condurso’s and Orange Garden Center. Cedar Grove’s selection is better than Orange’s and their staff is VERY, VERY helpful. You can also have items delivered for a fee of $ 35.00, which is helpful if you do not have a truck and are purchasing large plants.
Their shrub and perennial selection is great. If you are in the market for houseplants, they have nice options of those as well.
I would go back to Cedar Grove if I was looking for a specialty item that I could not find at Condurso’s.

Nice selection of plants, but there is absolutely no customer service. I spent over 1000 dollars (trees, shrubs, plants) and asked for delivery for some trees. The trees were delivered and left at the very edge of the yard. We received a call later in the day telling us that we could come back to the store and use their «lift» because they didn’t think we would be able to move them by ourselves. Then why did they leave them there? Wouldn’t it just have been easier to move them to the spot closer to the house? I called and asked if they could possibly plant them if we paid for that service. We were told that someone would call us back — three days later and we are still waiting. I get the impression that this place is used by landscapers and they aren’t accustomed to dealing with the general public. I’m trying to be kind — maybe they are just A$$holes.

The place is a bit pricey. Usually I don’t mind that because it generally correlates with quality. However, in order to purchase their pricier products the business would have to remain open for the advertised hours. Twice last week I arrived there before «closing» only to see the entrance chained off. It’s frustrating when you drive there after work and it’s closed. Stay open for your advertised hours or change your advertised hours.

I have been visiting the garden center since I was a young boy and I can honestly say that this establishment is a Cedar Grove gem. I feel warm and welcome every time I pull into the spacious parking lot and receive a smile or wave from one of the competent employees. There are so many evergreens, annuals, perennials, and gardening accessories that I can choose from and often call upon one of the workers to better inform my decision. Any questions I have are always answered with ease. I consistently see love and care being put into the plants that larger retail corporations cannot compete with. The price is well worth it. The few times that I ever had minor problems were quickly resolved by just conversing with one of the many helpful, skilled employees. I only come to the CGGC for all of my gardening needs.

I always drive by and decided to go in one day and I was not disappointed and keep going back. It is MUCH bigger than what it seems like when you drive by on Pompton Ave. The land extends back all the way to Lindsley Ave and there are two big greenhouses. Much of the remaining land is covered with shrubs, trees, and perennials all for sale. The prices are definitely fair for what you get, since it seems as if they grow much of their flowers on their own and there is always someone watering or maintaining the plants. This is something that you just wouldn’t get at Home Depot or Lowe’s. There is always someone on staff who can help you pick something out or give you general advice. The staff is all very friendly and it’s a great local business.

Pricey and lack of customer service
I walked in the buy a couple of bags of stone and waited 15mins before anyone showed up at the register to help me. I told her what I was looking for and then he just started ringing me up. i had to stop her to say «don’t i get to see what im buying first» good thing i said that bc she was charging me for the largest stones they had and i wanted the min marble chips. then she rings me up again and i ask how much each bag costs and i realize its $ 2 more per bag than going to home depot, i wasn’t about to run all the way to home depot for just 2 bags but larger quantities add up. then the lady just walks away and im like, wheres my product? she said i had to go get it myself. so you are charging me $ 2 more per bag and i have to go pick it up somewhere in your lot? without any instructions on where to go i drove around looking for bags of stone in their lot. when i found it i loaded myself and left. next time ill take the trip to home depot. if your going to be more expensive that the chain stores then you have to at least have better service.
