Daylight Donuts

I am surprised this place has such a low rating. I have now been twice and the donuts were delicious! This morning they even gave me one fresh out of the fryer and freshly dipped (chocolate covered donut) even though there were some already made. It totally made my morning! I have not tried the kolaches but will next time I stop in. Service was excellent both times as well.

Usually you can’t go wrong in any donut place first thing in the, but I did. They were extremely friendly and the place smelled great (ofcourse). I got two kolaches and a doughnut, they were mediocre at best and the ham and cheese kolache was cubed meat and had no taste… I wouldn’t say I recommend this place… no offense they were very nice once again.

You know that hole in the wall place with super nice people that you really want to like? That’s this place! Only problem… the donuts weren’t even close to being good. They obviously don’t do a ton of business because the selection is pretty minimal. I got an apple fritter. It tasted like canned apple pie filling thrown into a cinnamon roll. The filling was falling out of the bottom. The pig in a blankets had a bread to sausage ratio that was wayyy off. Too much bread and not enough sausage (although that is typical). The poor place is falling apart with the wall paper peeling everywhere. It would have been forgiven if it wasn’t for the donuts. They also don’t have high chairs which made it slightly challenging with two little ones. And now I feel bad for writing this review because the lady was really nice!

The employee (owner?) who helped me was unquestionably irritated when I only ordered 3 donuts. He was extremely curt and he cut me off more than once. However, with the $ 5 minimum I did end up also buying 2 fruit kolaches and a bottle of water. The kolaches were good enough-​the donuts were not. They weren’t very yeasty and the chocolate & maple glaze were more sugar than flavor. If you’re going to splurge on a donut, you want it to be worth the calories.

I like this place, kolaches are good and the donuts are good. Not spectacular but what you’d expect. Really, my only complaint is the entrance destroyed the front of my car and I was driving slow too :(As for a quick breakfast this place is good!

I’m surprised the ratings are low. I am really into this place. The cake donuts are really great and the kolaches are pretty fantastic as well.

Despite what others rated this place… I love it! Growing up in the area, this place just reminds me of home.
Try the white filled donut. They were out on my recent visit but they were able to make us a few!

Daylight Donuts is one of if not THE gem of Cedar Park. When I was in elementary school my friends used to come to school with their donut holes and we would barter with our best gel pens and erasers and sparkly pencils for a few of these sought after donut holes; those kids were like mobsters: they ran the place. And on the special occasion I went with one of my friend’s parents before school it was a serious treat. Nothing could ruin my day with it starting like that!
That being said, almost 20 years later I set foot in here, visiting my old stomping grounds and guess what? Not a thing has changed about this place. Unashamedly 80’s donut posters line the already lined glorious floral walls; those multicolored push pins, Conquistadors pushing with all their might to proudly declare their strongly held messages: «DAYLIGHT: Desk accessories» «DAYLIGHT: Exercise good taste» And a personal favorite: «DAYLIGHT: Daylightfully delicious»
The owner or beautiful owner’s wife greets everyone the moment they walk in the door with a strong «Good morning!» And then from patron’s lips pours forth their decadent morning sin i.e. «I’ll have the bear claw and a Bavarian cream.» (AAANND a Bavarian Cream?! You adrenaline junky you!)
Sitting in the dining area feels like being in one of my asian friend’s living rooms growing up; you wouldn’t DARE put your feet up on the coffee table lest you fear for your life. You can feel the sense of pride they carry here for their business that demands a sort of awe and respect towards this establishment. You feel and you know this place is their livelihood and their prized entrepreneurial family business. It’s quiet and calm here, looking out past the curling window decals onto scurrying commuters, it’s really like stepping back into a time bubble sitting here: before donuts were the devil and solely servingblack coffee with creamer & instant cappuccino and hot chocolate wasn’t a mark against your establishment.
They aren’t trendy and they aren’t hip; they don’t have wifi or indie melancholy music playing, they aren’t about any of that. They are about DAYLIGHT AND DONUTS. DONUTS AND COFFEE. Period. They serve kolaches, bear claws, donuts with in a myriad of combinations. They don’t serve sugar free caramel mocha soy frappé lattes with no foam, they serve coffee. Black. coffee. That comes in a styrofoam cup. With Koffee Buddy non dairy ultra-​pasteurized creamer if you please. But you know what? At $ 2.18 for a cup of coffee and a cheese and sausage kolache that is fluffy and tender and the perfect little mix of savory and a touch of sweet, are you really complaining? Where can you go some place for a bite to eat for breakfast and walk out paying $ 2.18?!! This place is straight business. And it is straight awesome. Society has forgotten about the value of little shops like this. Daylight Donuts is a family owned business, they have a poster that says «1954 – 2014: Fresh Donuts and Coffee» — could this be true? Is it possible for a Mom and Pop shop to stay in business for over 60 years with a corporate mass-​produced Starbucks and Coffee bean and Tea Leaf popping up on every corner strip mall? This is Cedar Park folks, it’s not downtown Austin, there are few places in Cedar Park or Round Rock or Pflugerville or any of these suburb areas that aren’t being overrun by mass commercialism, and I think places like this need to be protected and respected for what they are: small businesses owned by individuals in the local community. So do yourself a favor: in the spirit of appreciating small business in what used to be a small town stop by Daylight Donuts and get yourself a Bear Claw or a Jalapeño Kolache or a Bavarian Crème Donut (or live on the edge and try all three, you daredevil!) Load your children up with donut holes and chocolate milk and ship them off to their gluten-​free teacher so they can unleash hell and be the mobster of their second grade class.

This place has gone downhill. I was surprised when I walked in and saw how dirty the floors were. It looks like they haven’t been mopped in weeks. The windows were dirty and the trays didn’t have paper on them.
I like a good glazed donut and they used to have a pretty good one here. The ones I got today weren’t plump. They were sort of deflated and wrinkly.
Makes me wonder if someone new bought the place.

The doughnuts were average tasting like a supermarket bakery department would have. I was the only customer and the only car in the parking lot at the time I went in. I only wanted one glazed doughnut and had the correct change $.70 and thanked the guy that took my change however the owner or worker gave me a bad look after I told him I only wanted 1 doughnut. He wasn’t friendly at all and acted like I was a nuisance. I will never go back. I can just go to a grocery store or convenience store get the same quality and get treated better and maybe pay less than $.70 a doughnut.

Decent donut shop. The donuts are quite good (LARGE) and the Kolaches are fair.

FATAL ATTRACTION! — Kolache Dough is Descended From Heaven! Plain Glazed Donuts taste like Shipley’s — which all the guys in my family adore but I’m kinda a DIE-​HAPPY-​OF-​SUGAR-​POISONING kind of girl & prefer Krispy Kreme’s over-​the-​top «tongue coating grease & sugar that goes straight to my brain» recipe when I finally stray from my yogurt eatin, organic, EVOO, non-​sugar non-​white flour Cult.

The kolaches melt in your mouth. Fresh and warm. The donuts are plentiful and decent, depends on what you are after, I recommend the sour cream donuts. Fast and friendly customer service no matter if there are three customers waiting in front of you.

great meat kolaches. pretty good donuts. My brother loved the sausage and jalapeño kolaches! They are all pretty inexpensive.

This place has been in Cedar Park as long as I can remember; not the most attractive building from the outside, but the donuts, kolaches, etc., have always been tasty.
However, we’re no longer customers after years of patronage; the owner (?) recently accosted my wife because she asked to have her order split into a couple of bags — she’d ordered a chocolate donut, and some glazed, and the owner was just throwing everything into the same bag. He was very rude about it, and insisted she must buy a dozen to have the donuts separated (which had never been an issue in the past). The owners wife (?) came up and apologized, but he yelled out from the back that he was NOT sorry; she just rolled her eyes…
Maybe he was just having a bad day — what’s more, she was planning on ordering more than a dozen items, but never got the chance to finish her order because he cut her off mid-​order. She took what was bagged, and left — along with the man behind her who left without ordering after witnessing the tirade.
Good donuts, but we’ve found another/​new local shop with excellent products, and good service.

It’s a donut shop. Not the greatest, but not bad. Very clean inside. Since I Was the only person in there, I got excellent service.
Hate to say it, but not really worth going out of your way for. The competition is strong! Strong like a psycho sharktopus!

On my way home from doing my Saturday morning chores, I spotted Daylight Donuts. Since I hadn’t eaten breakfast yet, I stopped in. I was the only customer in the store so service was quick. I ordered one «Chocolate Chocolate» donut and a sausage kolache. The service for being the only customer was quick enough. They wrapped each item in a separate bag. So I got home and unpacked the groceries and grabbed my cup of joe. I decided to start with the Kolache. And save the donut for an afternoon snack. The bread was slightly sweet but it went well with the spice of the sausage. It did its job of satisfing my morning craving.
So after lunch I hunger for some chocolate. Perfect I have a chocolate chocolate donut.
WARNING!!! DO NOT MESS WITH A CHOCOHOLIC! IF YOU CALL SOMETHING CHOCOLATE CHOCOLATE IT BETTER TASTE LIKE CHOCOLATE! Well, it didn’t. It was a cake donut and I have to admit the cake texture was good. But putting some cocoa powder in donut batter does not make it chocolate. The icing was again not chocolate. It was too sweet from sugar not chocolate. I will go back for the kolaches but not the donuts.

There glazed doughnuts are pretty good so sweet you can only eat one. Service is good, an asian family runs it and there always scurrying about to fill your order fast. The kolaches are good even though there mostly dough but man oh man WATCH out there yummy and everything but in a few hours I would stay close to the restroom lol.
