Specialties
We’re a local family business, in Cedar Park since 2008! For us, music is more than just a study — it’s a passion. All of our instructors are professional musicians, playing regularly with bands in Austin and beyond. Music is a lifestyle for us, and it’s incredibly rewarding to be able to pass on that love of music to new players!
There are no semester-length contracts, and students can start lessons at any time. Not sure what instrument your child will like best? As long as the schedule allows it, we try to be as flexible as we can to allow students to try different options.
Sense & Color offers private lessons in guitar (acoustic and electric), bass, piano, violin, viola, voice, drums, mandolin, and ukulele, covering Cedar Park, Leander, and northwest Austin. We also offer tutoring in sightreading, music theory, and audition preparation, as well as live music opportunities and recitals.
Let us be a part of your student’s musical journey!
History
Established in 2008.
In summer of 2008, Michael Boyd began offering guitar and bass lessons in a spare bedroom of the Cedar Park home he shared with his wife Amy, and with virtually zero advertising, students found him, thanks to good word-of-mouth and a little bit of luck with Google. Over the next two years, a second teacher was brought on, then a third. In June of 2012, we moved from the house into a commercial property in the heart of Cedar Park, and a few months later, added drums, vocals, piano, and violin lessons. In April of 2013, we were featured as the Cedar Park business of the month in the Community Impact newspaper, and we currently offer lessons from seven instructors.
No matter how much we grow, it’s important to us to feel like every student gets personal attention. This is our family business, and the experience we give every one of our customers matters to us!
Meet the Business Owner
Michael B.
Business Owner
Originally from New York, Michael Boyd now lives just outside Austin in Cedar Park, and has been teaching guitar and bass since 2000. Rather than follow a set lesson plan, Mike works to find songs students enjoy, while also teaching the theory behind those songs — an approach that not only teaches how to play an instrument, but encourages a love of music. He’s also an excellent resource for music school students, offering tutoring in music theory, sightreading and audition preparation. Michael plays both guitar and bass in bands regularly, focusing largely on rock, jazz, and improvisation — although he’s played everything from blues, to country, to hip-hop.
Students will find him a gifted teacher, highly trained enough to improve even the best guitarists and bassists, and patient enough to work with the most novice. (Kids love him too!)
