Scott was in the equipment rental business from 1972 through 2007. He worked for a local company Best Rental in Iowa City until 1992 when it was purchased by Elmen Enterprises. He continued on with Elmens as a City Manager. His stores always were the top 5 profit centers in Elmens operation. In 1999 Elmens equipment rental stores were purchased by United Rentals which is the largest equipment rental company in North America. Scott was promoted to the Manager of the Nebraska region (Omaha) to oversee 5 stores with 25 million dollars of rental equipment. Those stores were the most profitable in the entire Midwest Region.

His motto has always been to treat all customers with the respect they deserve.
