Specialties
Our style is rustic-urban, original and balanced, elegant and creative. We love local, sustainably grown and up-cycled materials. We grow many flower varieties in the Summer months and partner with other Iowa growers. In the Winter, our curly willow and pussy willow branches are in their prime. Event and holiday décor, fairy/gnome gardens, succulents, houseplants, cacti, seeds, pet grass — just a few of our specialities. Available for events of all sizes.
History
Established in 2011.
bark & bloom began with Anne’s passion for growing perennials and sharing with others. Early Spring sales were, like many great startups, located in her mom’s garage. From there, the business expanded into local farmer’s markets. Our offerings grew (no pun intended) to include every curly willow and pussy willow variety we could find.
In 2012, NewBo City Market opened, and we were lucky enough to be chosen as an anchor shop. That means we are open and designing with flowers and plants year-round.
Meet the Business Owner
Anne A. and Alan P.
Business Owner
We love growing flowers, trees, veggies and arranging gardens. Our preference is for cold hardy perennials, succulents, trees and shrubs — native plants that thrive in this area. It’s normal to find Anne in ditches around our property harvesting the natural flora. Anne’s garden designs are described as cottage gardens — a more natural integration with the landscape. Alan enjoys caring for seedlings, the small veggie patch, taking pictures of everything and watching things grow.
We also love learning about flowers and gardening, and sharing what we’ve learned. Please share your gardening questions and stories with us!
