At Tommy’s, we specialize in home style food. Breakfast, lunch, or dinner, you can order off the entire menu all day long. Most known for our large portioned breakfasts such as omelets, shipwrecks, and pancakes. Other huge hits include our delicious hot beef sandwiches and our melt in your mouth broasted chicken dinners!

History

Established in 1980.

Jim Ashley Sr. is the current owner of Tommy’s Restaurant. He has been in the restaurant business for most of his life, but has only had this particular place since around 1998. The original owner was named Tommy, and through a few owners before Jim the name has been kept because it is so well known and has been a successful restaurant for many years. Through the multiple owners over the years, the Tommy’s traditions have remained the same. Home style food, at reasonable prices, and a family friendly environment.

Breakfast brunch today for me and my 3 girls was not the best. Mini pancakes were tough, bacon was so-​so and the gravy was not very good. Not what I would hope for when I’m paying $ 10.50 plus $ 2.30 for drinks. Overpriced for what we for got.

Tommy’s is a great place to go with your family. If you don’t know what to get, you can never go wrong with the chicken fried steak or the roast beef and gravy! Get the fried steak with sausage gravy and you will be in heaven! The roast beef is doused with brown gravy and has a huge side of potatoes that’s to die for!

Ugh The service here is terrible Myself and another sat at the table for 10 minutes and only one person came by only to bring our water After that we waited another five minutes and no one came So we left And the place wasnt all that crouded Maybe maximum was 10 tables mostly elders I would not recomend coming here if youre on a tight schedule

Nothing fancy here, just good food at a good price. Jim the owner, will make sure your meal is cooked right or he’ll make it right. Very friendly place with a party room available. Whatever you do, be sure to try some of the best pie in Cedar Rapids. Be sure to bring the kiddos, they have a great kids menu too! Only complaint is the hours, no late night meals.

Tommy’s is a great place if you want diner-​type or hometown café style food. The wait staff is very «Flo» (think 70s Flo not Progressive Flo). I enjoyed the chicken fried steak. Dont eat here if you want to be blown away be your eating experience. Do eat here if you want to be comfortable eating comfort food.

Looking for a nice, family-​friendly restaurant that serves home-​style food? Tommy’s is the place to go. The atmosphere isn’t fancy, but the business is family owned and operated. One of my favorites is the hot beef sandwich — great proportions and reasonably priced. The pie is even homemade!

Not my favorite breakfast place in the world, but it certainly hit the spot. –Although I should mention that while it’s not MY favorite, it’s my soon to be step-daughter’s favorite. She loves going here and has since she was a baby.
Bottom line, I’d go back.
