I know… Why go to a 1 star place? Well… I didnt check reviews before I went. Shame on me.
But… What I found was not a band of Charlatans but rather some older mechanics who were very cautious in their advice. I am no noob to the automotive world as I currently am restoring a 67 mustang fastback.
When they first emerged from the shop with their advice from their 41 point inspection what they said was not wrong, but rather cautious. They basically wanted to do an overhaul running the bill to $ 1000.
I questioned their purpose and gave them reasoning for each charge that I wanted to defer. The mechanic agreed that it didnt need to all be done now. We agreed on a subset of the work and I walked out with a $ 600 bill… Including additional electrical work they hadn’t originally expected.
And now my jeep drives like a dream. Good mechanics; cautious estimates. Don’t be afraid to haggle.

I took my car here for an oil change and of course yes I’m a women. So they come back out and tell me that my breaks need replaced and my serpentine belt and if I don’t fix it now things could happen and possibly cause a horrible accident. I have three kids so I decided that I should do it. My bill was over $ 1100. Now it’s a couple months later and my power steering rack is bad. I took my car somewhere else and am getting it fixed. This guy told me that tuffys is the worst place for women to go. He showed me how the charged me like 600 $ too much. That pissed me off. I will never go back. And your manager Aaron is a complete JERK. Stay away

I took my car to Tuffy’s when they were running a special for an oil change that included other checks (A/​C, for example) and 3 months of free road service. Although a negative review on this site caused me to hesitate initially, I was happy with their work. They suggested additional services but were not pushy when I declined. They figured out why the window on the passenger side wouldn’t work and corrected it without any charge. The waiting room has wi-​fi for customers, and the staff was friendly and helpful. I will definitely go back there again.

STAY AWAY.
This Tuffy didn’t rotate my tires, didn’t top off my fluids… I’m not really sure what they DID do. Inflate the tires? But come to think of it, I should probably go check the pressure to make sure they didn’t over inflate, given how trustworthy these people seem to be.
They also didn’t apply the coupon I brought in.
So I went to Tuffy in Iowa City and they took care of everything for me. Iowa City also had a better discount — WITHOUT a coupon!
It’s not like this was just some subjective stuff that needed some work. My tires hadn’t been rotated in about 35,000 miles and the front tires were clearly worn way worse than the back. The engine coolant was extremely low. This isn’t the sort of stuff you just decide «Hey, the tires are close enough, and the fluids are close enough.»
If I didn’t know better, I’d say all they did was change my oil and then let the car sit on the lift for another 35 minutes so it would look like they were actually doing something.
EDIT: I just found out they also overfilled by AN ENTIRE QUART. THINK ABOUT THAT. These jerks should probably be sued for not giving me the service I paid for, and for actually possibly damaging my engine.
I repeat: STAY AWAY.
