Handyman Matters of South & West Denver Suburbs

If they put half as much effort into doing good work as they do into attempting to collect money their lives would be so much easier. They are a terrible company. I am having a sign made to put in the yard saying «fence installed by homeowner cause handy matters south did a terrible job». They left and the first fence panel fell down. My wonderful landscapers tried to make the fence function-​able because when chad left we couldn’t use the backyard…

this is exactly how they left my house. The gap is blocked by using materials around my yard that were to be removed as part of the landscaping. The railroad ties aren’t installed they are placed at the bottom of the fence. Until the landscaper helped me put rocks on the ties to weigh them down, the dogs could move them out of the way to get under the fence.

I got a quote for a fence replacement (from wood to vinyl fence). The price was a little higher than other fencing companies; however, other companies wouldn’t install a fence that we didn’t buy from them and I had my heart set on this specific fence. So i ordered the fence and handyman matters came out to install. The laborer was very nice, listened, and I felt like he really knew what he was doing. The job was supposed to take 1.5 days to complete, on day two — the work was not done. So I emailed Eric from the office (not going to lie I was hot that it wasn’t even close to done). He replied quickly and was very concerned that I wasn’t happy. He came out first thing the next morning and worked on the fence himself! He was incredibly interested in my happiness with the work being done and went out of his way to make sure the job got done. I do wish the work was done within the first two days; however, them not calling the job done until I am happy is all I can truly ask.
Update:
NEVER AGAIN! They left trash over the worksite and there is a HUGE (8″) gap at the bottom of the fence. The handyman called to come and pick up the trash however didn’t show up the first time. I emailed
to have them pick up the trash and do something about the gap. 30 mins after they left a fence panel fell down… I don’t even know what to say — I now can’t even let the dogs into the backyard cause there is a missing panel. This is worse then the old fence I wish I would have never started this project.

I wasn’t going to write a negative review until I spoke with handyman matters after they completed, or didn’t complete the job, at my house.
Rudy was the plumber, he was nice enough, seemed knowledgeable about plumbing. I had a broken pipe in the wall of my kitchen and one in my bathroom
He informed me that the pipe in the bathroom might nt be the correct size but he would fix… he worked on it… it still leaks. Just as bad as before.
The broken pipe in the kitchen he wouldn’t even attempt. He again, told me there was a leak. I KNOW. But it was in the sewer line and he doesn’t do that. Ok. He told me get that fixed first and then call him again. 250.00…he did replace two valves on a sink. That works fine.
So I called a different plumber, told him the same thing I told Rudy, plus what Rudy told me. He seemed puzzled. He cut out a piece of drywall to expose a broken pipe in the wall. He fixed it in 45 minutes. It had nothing to do with the sewer line. He couldn’t have been bothered to even attempt to fix it. I asked the 2^nd plumber was this an extrodinary problem. he said plumbing 101.
Problem was when HM called me to see how satisfied I was. I told them I wasnt… gave them a 5 out of 10. They kept contacting me… not to resolve the situation, but to argue about my experience. The lady I spoke with said that HM never said they would FIX the problem, they just came out to APPRAISE the problem and that repair was never implied. REALLY. .I know what the problem is… I have a leak. So if you want someone to come out and agree with you for 250.00 then recommend you call a plumber. these are your guys. Never once even offered to remedy any of the problems. she was just concerned about the rating HM received. …well here’s an updated review… BOOOOO…bad job… you failed…

My husband hired this company to do a repair on our gutters. The gutters were worse than before after 2 people tried to fix them. When he asked for a full refund, he was told that the repair men did tell him that these were not repairable. This is not true as he would not have had them try to repair something that cannot be fixed. Save yourself the trouble and go with someone who is competent and can do the job right the first time!

READ ME: I hope this will help ALL steer clear of this company especially the franchise Handyman Matters Denver South. They came out to my home to do a full bathroom remodel and it turned out to be a disaster. We have been trying to resolve this for many months now. The grout has holes in it, there is still grout all over the tiles from where they didn’t clean up their mess, they wont come and fix the heated floor that they installed and managed to break two separate times, breaking their contract, they left trim cut and hanging off the wall, tiles are miss cut, grout lines of all sizes, put chipped tiles in, our mosaic tile is crooked and cut with harsh jagged edges, and due grout lines not being filled in completely where the wall meets the floor in two places there is now a leak that is causing us damage to other places in our home. They will not return e-​mails or phone calls. There workers leave early and call in sick constantly, leaving projects that are quoted at two weeks to go on for much longer than desired. The work in our bathroom was done very poorly and any reasonable person see’s these major issues when walking into the bathroom that was meant to be beautiful. Seeing the work in this bathroom is all the proof anyone needs to see that their company is unprofessional and unwilling to fulfill there contracts and customers satisfaction within the work they do. Please save yourself the time and money and use a different company!

I will never hire this company again. I had 3 days of work done by two different handymen, Erin did the first two days. Lucas, the third day.
I had a list of things that needed to be done to get our home ready to sell. The quality of the work was mixed between good and awful.
I overlooked the water all over the master bathroom counters and tub surround on day 1. I thought that perhaps, the cleanup was just missed.
We had to tell Erin that our walls were black and caulking needed done under our baseboards at the end of day 2. He quickly did that and bolted. Having work end on July 3 wasn’t a good idea. Obvious, he had somewhere else to be.
Cleanup was a major problem. Erin did minimal cleanup and the mess that he left us following tiling a master bathroom floor was disgraceful.
We have damage to two sections of our walls in the toilet room and the baseboard. Wall damage under the counters, toilet wasn’t caulked and 2 areas weren’t caulked and our toilet cover is now chipped in two places. We will have to putty the baseboards, paint and caulk.
Dirt and a big mess was left all over our bathroom. Grout was left to dry and harden in our grates in substantial amounts along with the dried grout that is sitting in clumps left under our master bathroom cabinets.
This is totally unacceptable when your paying $ 70.00 — 80.00 an hour and a contractor leaves your home in an entirely different condition than when they started.
The work and cleanup of Lucas was far superior than that of Erin’s. But, he also left our bathroom floors dirty and dirt in both sinks where he replaced corroded sink drains in.
You would think that you’d never have to stress cleanup to someone working in your home.
NOTE: Following my review, they left me a voicemail. They want to send someone out to fix everything. I called the morning of July 8^th and declined. We don’t want anything else to do with this company. We will fix everything ourselves.

My daughter’s closet door kept coming off of the track (Nov 2014) so I hired Handyman Matters to fix it. They showed up on time and fixed the door with no problem. I paid about $ 100 and felt good that the handyman said if there were any problems with the door in the next year they would come back and fix it for free. Fast forward to now when we are having problems with the same closet door and now apparently «fix for free» means a service fee of $ 45, plus materials (replacing items when no one has even looked at the closet door to see what the problem is). It was clear I was a hassle to the woman I spoke to on the phone, so no worries lady, I will be sure to never use your handyman services again nor will I recommend your services to anyone in Denver.

Fellow consumers all you have to do is read the response of the franchisee to know the horrible service they provide. I love how I paid the money to have the work done and all of the «Issues» were my fault, and the funny thing is, we paid Handyman matters to replace the bad boards… Also the whole deck is less than 2 years old… What’s even more hysterical is they were quoting my business, and how the scheduling was my issue, when my wife is a stay at home mom, and they could have come at anytime. Not sure how my company plays into this situation… Again, pretty pathetic work and customer service, save yourself money, harassment, and horrible customer service.

This company has issues! They are awful about communication. I don’t think they know what they are doing and they don’t care! This is my first review– I don’t want others to experience their lack of effort.

I’ve used Handyman Matters — Centennial a few times now. The last two times I’ve had Joe come out and he is fantastic. Both times he completed rather long «honey do» lists including things like fixing a burst water pipe, dry wall repair, hanging curtain rods, hanging pictures, repairing a leaky faucet, installing a light in the garage and the front porch, putting in GFCI outlets… the list goes on and on. He is professional and friendly and I think he can do just about anything thrown at him. If you’re looking for a handyman, I recommend giving this company a call.
Tip: Go to the Handyman Matters Centennial website and look for the tab that says Offers. They usually have coupons there.

Handyman Matters was very helpful and professional in helping me with my home tasks!

I called Handyman Matters of South and West Denver to fix /​replace a door latch that my husband had started and had difficulties making fit correctly. I was nervous about what it would cost and how difficult it would be to fix.
I was extremely pleased with my service. Paul arrived at my door exactly at the time he was scheduled to arrive. He was professional and personable and, more importantly, knew exactly what he was doing. My door is fixed and at a VERY reasonable cost. I couldn’t be happier and will not hesitate to call them the next time I need something that we can’t fix ourselves.

AVOID THIS COMPANY AT ALL COSTS. Sandra Garvey and her workers are the most dishonest and incompetent group you will ever deal with when it comes to having anything in your house fixed, upgraded remodeled. Don’t let the Angie’s List/​Dave Logan associations on her website fool you.
In the Spring of 2012 we hired Hanyman Matters to remodel my mother’s kitchen and they often showed up without the correct tools and charged us while they went to get the correct tools. They were clearly told ahead of time during the walk-​through the type of work they would be doing. They often showed up late and charged us as if they arrived on time.
Once they finally started the work they scratched the brand new items in the kitchen such as appliances, cabinets, marble counter tops and a very expensive brand new wood floor. They also put holes in our dry wall and completely messed up our wiring — not only in the kitchen, but in the remainder of the house. Now, light switched won’t turn on the correct lights –if they turn on at all. A few times workers should up and said they did not know how to do whatever the task was for the day — yes, we were charged for this, as well.
We had to hire another contractor to come into my mother’s kitchen and fix all the errors and issues that Handyman Matters caused — upwards of $ 900.
If that wasn’t enough, one of the workers FORGED my mother’s signature on one of invoices and on another changed the dollar amount to a higher amount that she signed off on to be put through on a credit card. Sandra Garvey proceed to commit FRAUD by charging an unauthorized amount to the credit card.
When we contacted Sandra Garvey to discuss this, she was very defensive — screaming and yelling and saying she would fire her staff if they ever showed up without their tools, etc… She refused to take any additional calls or try to work something out with us.
We are in the process of working through the dispute with the credit card company and they (the credit card company) is stating that Sandra is not only saying that she and her worthless workers are not at fault but that we owe additional money. Just unbelievable.
As you can see from this review and others, you don’t even want to take a chance with your project, time and money by making the very wrong decision to use Handyman Matters — SAVE YOUR TIME, MONEY AND PROJECT BY USING ANOTHER COMPANY… ANY COMPANY — JUST DON’T USE HANDYMAN MATTERS.

I contacted Handyman Matters again to install laminate flooring for me in the main level of my home, about 400 square feet. They were awesome again. They even brought a flooring representative from the company they order flooring through. I was able to pick out the flooring I wanted in my own home, next to my painted walls and cabinets. The flooring was delivered in about a week, and they installed it shortly after.
The other two reviews do not sound like the Handyman Matters I have used. I do know that Handyman Matters has 4 offices in the Denver area.

One of the «handymen» was supposed to fix our kitchen faucet. It was pretty obvious he had no idea what he was doing. The first time he showed up, he took apart the faucet and managed to scratch the hell out of it in the process. This faucet isn’t cheap either (hence why we hired a «professional») after tearing it apart he decided that we needed a new cartridge which was understandable. So on his second time out to our house, in which he was more that 2 hours late by the way, he tore apart the faucet again and managed to make it worse all while scratching it even more. All in all he managed to ruin the faucet beyond use and the company takes HIS side on the matter. A simple phone call to the faucet manufacturer would have solved a lot of his problems, but his sheer ignorance prevented him from doing so. I would recommend anyone else besides Handyman Matters.
