History

Established in 2010.

The team at Distinctive Roofing has been helping homeowners find the best roof for their home for over 26 years. It all started out with one roofer working with a single truck full of tools. Through hard work, perseverance, and a single-​minded focus of making sure Every Single Job was done right, they’ve grown into the roofing company they are today.

In 2010, Gary Smith declared a piece of Macomb County his own, and Distinctive Home Improvement was born. Many 12, 14, and 16 hours days later, they’ve become a roofing powerhouse located in Center Line, MI. However, no matter how much they grow, they always remember the importance of each individual project.

It starts off by ensuring a clean and well-​maintained American-​built truck pulls up to the home. It ends with a full roof inspection and an unmatched cleanup of nails and debris. Somewhere in the middle, a relationship is born, and the words «I’d never even consider calling anyone else,» are typically spoken.

Business Owner

Gary Smith has been a roofer and a tradesman for over 26 years. He established Distinctive Home Improvement in 2010, after decades of installing thousands of new roofs for other roofing companies.

He and his family live in Macomb, MI. He has three children, two of whom are currently earning their college degrees. They frequently go on camping trips, and they take the toys with them: jet skis, 4-​wheelers, and a small but well cared for boat.

He’s a religious man, and can be found in church on most Sundays. He does what he can to support the local community, while also helping various charities.

In his heart however, he’s still a tradesman. He still enjoys getting his hands dirty, and it’s not uncommon to see him on a roof showing the younger guys how it’s done.

Deep down he’s worked hard his entire life to provide for himself and his family. He’s always tried to set an example that his kids could follow — while enabling them to create their own paths, and follow their own dreams.
