Dryer Vent Wizard

if you had a zero star rating, that is what i’d give this company.
i made an appointment three days ago (appointment was made friday, monday was a holiday) for service this morning. the appointment was confirmed at the time of the phone call.
the company sent a «do not reply» email message with another confirmation that the technician would be here between 8:30 and 9:30.
this morning, the company called my cell phone four times. FOUR TIMES. well i don’t do my housework with my cell phone tethered to my neck, so i didn’t hear the phone ring. not that it should matter, because the appointment was already confirmed twice. when i discovered the voicemail messages, i called back.
the company said, «we don’t make confirmation calls». then he said they DID make THESE confirmation calls. (???)
so i said i was here, i was waiting, and they only had three minutes left on the appointment window.
if an appointment had already been confirmed more than once, why didn’t the technician show up? obviously it was because he was late and was trying to cover that up.
then the technician called again, and this time i was by the phone, so i answered. he said he wasn’t going to just drive to my house if i didn’t answer the phone… because i made the appointment three days ago.
that doesn’t make sense.
i will be reporting this to the california department of consumer affairs based on the law pertaining to appointment windows.
i took an unpaid day off from work for this. they owe me a day’s pay.
DO NOT HIRE THESE PEOPLE!!!
UPDATE: i received email from james… he thinks it’s my fault that he did not honor his appointment with me, which had been confirmed twice. he never came to the house!
james…it is YOUR fault you didn’t honor the appointment. you had all the proper information. you had two appointment confirmations. YOU messed up. you didn’t even attempt an apology; just blamed me.
next time, honor your appointment. go to the house where the service is to take place. ring the bell. knock on the door. it takes real nerve to blame the customer for not answering a phone call they didn’t know they had. do you just ignore the appointment if somebody’s phone battery is dead too? don’t only rely on your phone. pay attention to the already-​confirmed appointment. SHOW UP TO THE APPOINTMENT. YOU DIDN’T EVEN SHOW UP!!!
COIT is coming to do this work. they will do a better job anyway.
UPDATE: james keeps sending email to me about this incident. he has now decided that he WOULD have shown up for the appointment except he didn’t like how i spoke to him on the phone. he is referring to the conversation which took place AFTER he already hadn’t shown up, during which he said he wasn’t coming because i didn’t answer the phone. he’s ridiculous, and kind of stalker-​ish.
UPDATE: i see james decided to make public his excuses for not honoring his appointment, which had been confirmed TWICE. i doubt that will impress anybody looking for somebody to clean their dryer vents.
as you will see, james’s excuses have nothing to do with the fact that he DID NOT SHOW UP FOR AN APPOINTMENT WHICH HAD ALREADY BEEN CONFIRMED TWICE.
UPDATE: you really need to just admit you’re messed up and were trying to cover up for missing the appointment.
by the way, james, missing the window is against the law in california. California Civil Code Section 1722.

UPDATE: coit did five-​star work cleaning my dryer vents. i will continue hiring them for this, and other, work in future.

We had been experiencing some problems with smelling dryer smells (burning, linty, dampness) in our laundry room. We have had a dryer fire previously, and while that was electrical, not lint related, it does leave you a little paranoid, so I called to arrange an appointment. I had to reschedule my first appointment just because their arrival would have been at the end of the arrive time window and I had company coming. James was very flexible in rescheduling, and when i called prior to the second appointment to see if they could come a day earlier, they moved it up a day and even rearranged their schedule to come at the beginning of the window. James called about 30 – 45 minutes prior to arrival on both appointments, which was very helpful.
Upon arrival they did a thorough inspection and gave me a detailed estimate to ensure that there were no surprises. They completed the work quickly but took the time to answer all my questions, even unpacking the truck to pull out the vacuum in order to show me all the lint they had removed.
It turned out that the connection from the dryer to the vent line was not connected. My dryer is in a very small laundry room and the connection inside the sealed tub is very difficult to get to.
They reconnected the dryer to the vent line using the correct materials — a higher safety rated dryer venting, and they reattached the pipe correctly inside the dryer — not with the duct tape that we had used previously!
They cleaned out the 15′ of vent line with multiple turns and they installed a louvered cover on the outside of the house.
They were kind to my old cat who has a tendency to lay right where you need to be.
My dryer now dries a load of towels and jeans in one try, instead of the previous two or even three starts. I am hoping this has a positive impact on my PG&E bill.
Now I am confident that our lint lines are as clean as they need to be to prevent a lint fire.

James was extremely knowledgeable and professional, his service in clearing 30′ of completely clogged up dryer vent after probably 24 years was outstanding. I was at my wits end trying to figure out the problem I’d been having with my dryer shutting off every 5 minutes or so. After trying appliance repair, having the electrical outlet and breakers checked, research led me to consider cleaning out the ENTIRE vent line, not just what I could see and reach when I took off the vent behind the dryer. Sure enough, that was my problem and I am SO thankful the machine was shutting down instead of starting a serious fire as there was singed lint at the back of the dryer and I believe it was just a matter of time before that happened. I called for an appointment on Saturday, and was scheduled for their soonest appointment, Tuesday. I told the operator I had been without a dryer for a week already and would appreciate service ASAP. Sure enough, late Monday morning James called to say he finished a job early and could stop by now. He really knew what he was doing. James spent quite a bit of time clearing and cleaning the vent line and installing a new, properly sized vent cover outside. He used his meter to check the airflow and temperature outside, and told me that he wanted to see it read better than it did. So, back to the beginning he went, performing the entire cleaning process again until he was satisfied with the meter reading. I was very impressed with his honesty, as he could have told me everything was fine after the first time and I would be none the wiser. He then installed a new vent connector inside, which was sorely needed. My service was $ 284, and worth every penny. It was a big (long neglected) job and I understand now how important it is to maintain a clear dryer vent all the way out. A small price to pay for safety, and I expect my PG&E bill will be positively affected by more efficient dryer cycles. Thank you James for your knowledge, expertise, and excellent service!
