Well… I think I spoke too soon regarding Antony’s legacy. Antony’s was recently updated to a new vegan/vegetarian pizza place and changed its name to «That’s Amore». I just saw it in passing today and I’ve yet to try the place. The interior looks pretty much the same, but with a new paint job. I wonder if the owners are the same, but wanted to change it up a little. Looking from the outside, some of the décor elements and furniture remained the same inside, so I’m not sure if it’s the same owners. I can’t imagine a pizza place that caters to vegetarians or people who don’t eat meat though.

After reading Judy H.‘s review, it inspired me to write a review about this place. Long ago, I used to live across the street from Antony’s and there was used to be a Sanwa bank right next door. Some of my high school classmates used to work at Antony’s while I used to work at a video store around the corner at the same time. It was such a fun time goofing off as I would do a Randall-like move as depict in «Clerks» and closed down the video store as I would casually walked over here to Antony’s to shoot the breeze. Many years passed by and I have to say nothing really have changed. They are still the same place practically with two decades passes by. They still have the same tables and arcade machines as I had remembered it. Hole in the wall wouldn’t do them justice as they are very popular with the locals. I think it’s the only mom and pop pizza place left that doesn’t grossed you out(the one in Norwalk Blvd closed down a few years ago). The thing I liked about them was the fact they would secretly delivered their pizzas to Cerritos residents in defiance of some stupid law. Some stupid ordinance passed by the city of Cerritos would not allowed any businesses in Cerritos to be delivering or let businesses have a drive thru in the city. It was silly because I still remembered calling a Pizza Hut in Lakewood or Domino’s in Artesia to get pizza delivering to me while some poor sapp who runs a pizza joint couldn’t do it in its own city. So I guessed Antony’s went stealth and did it behind the City’s back without letting them know even though it’s a public knowledge. Pizza and lasagna are nice, but the big winners in this place are the chicken parmigiana sandwich and the meatball sandwich. Those two subs were very popular until Subway introduced the same exact two sandwiches at the mid 90s. It really doesn’t matter because I still prefer Antony’s meatballs and chicken parmigiana anyways. Personally, I think the pizza is OK here, but way overpriced. I didn’t want to break their heart but I now rather go to Frantone’s for some cheap and fast low maintenance Italian stuffs over their place. The spaghetti, lasagna, and other Italian stuffs are very ho hum. Their sub sandwiches are the only reason I’m still come here once in the blue moon. With that being said, Frantone’s is closer to me and is a much better option. I still comes here to reminisce about the past revelries on what goes on here when I was a kid. It’s been so long that I am glad they didn’t sell out and let the whole plaza becomes a Korean mecca. Major kudos on that.

i love a hole in the wall where i can get a full lunch for $ 8. there are about a dozen items to choose from off of their lunch specials menu. comes with a soda, soup or salad, and garlic bread. i had the mushroom manicotti. never had a manicotti before… didn’t even know what it was, but i love mushrooms. it was just as i expected… very cheesy. the men in our group both had the lasagna, and both said it was just enough food for lunch, though they were hungry an hour later. next time, we all wanna try the sandwiches and the pizza. the sandwiches are large enough to take half home for dinner. there was one pizza so big, you’d have to put it in the trunk of your car to get it home. nothing spectacular here in terms of food, IMO. when we got there, the soda machine was out of ice and the soda was flat. but the service we had bumped my 3.5 stars up to a 4. they gave us canned soda instead, they joked around with the cool comedian in our group and they checked on us frequently. bravo!

Why am I so stupid? I always burn myself with the lasagna here, I order it time after time and I still end up burning my tongue with the first bite. The sandwichs and pizza are good here too.

How did a Disney character work its way into this mom ‘n’ pop Italian restaurant’s menu? The JC(Jiminy Cricket) special, that’s how. I’ve had the JC special sandwich on several occasions(mostly Super Bowl parties) and it is one of those sandwiches that comes back to haunt you(in a good way). After my initial encounter with this sandwich, I simply had to find out where it came from. So, I asked our friend who brought over a couple of these JC sandwiches and he pointed me towards Antony’s. If you like cured Italian meats and tangy peppers, you’ll love this sandwich. Crispy on the outside and juicy, meaty goodness on the inside. Isn’t that enough information to get you to try it? Anyway, Antony’s is located in a small shopping center near a Korean market. It was tricky for me to find the first time, but you won’t soon forget it. Other than their delicious hot sandwich, Antony’s offers up some tasty pizzas and pastas. Their pizzas are pretty good and seem to be pretty popular. The last time the wife and I were here several people came in for take out(mostly pizza). Their pastas are pretty good, too, and served piping hot. If you work in the Cerritos area, this place is worth checking out for lunch or dinner. Enjoy!

So on Remy’s recommendation I went to check out the J.C. Special. Ohh that thing was pretty bomb, espically the peppers. All i rembmer about the sandwich is peppers actually. I don’t know what kind of peppers they were but my goodness I need to get me a jar full of those. Plus the sandwich is pretty huge, i couldn’t finish it in one sitting. This is mom and pop type place is in a kinda old strip mall next to korean supermarket. So don’t expect a fancy new place but it’s got a nice pizzeria type feel to it and they’ve got a giant TV so maybe you can catch some games there on the weekend.

I’ve only had one thing on their menu and that’s all I need to give this place a 5 Star rating. They have the best Toasted Italian Sandwich called the J.C. Special or Jiminy Cricket Special. It is an Italian Sub filled with Capicola, Salami, other meats that I can’t remember, mozarella cheese and peppers baked until the bread is completely crispy and the cheese is oozing out of the sides. It’s an awesome sandwich. It’s a little spicy and has so much flavor, I love this sandwich. I hear other things are good at this place, but if you really want to try an amazing sandwich, check out the J.C. special.
