If you want to get ½ the fishing trip you pay for then you should try going out with Dan Hernandez on the Chief. I paid the premium to take a trip with Dan’s group on the Chief last summer. It was SUPPOSED TO BE A DAY AND A HALF TRIPp.
We left dock Sunday night expecting an all night ride out to the big tuna fishing grounds and a full day of fishing the next day. IT DIDN’T HAPPEN!
I AM WARNING YOU. DON’T BE SURPRISED IF THIS HAPPENS.
We went to pick up bait and the skipper says he can’t get enough bait to fish a full day. What could we do? We already left the dock. We were stuck. We went to our bunks. In the morning we discovered the captain had only gone a few miles north of the dock to fish for barracuda and yellowtail. We eventually got out a ways in the ocean and some people got a few tuna, yellowtail and dorado. However,
THE BAIT ON THE CHIEF RAN OUT AROUND 1: OO PM!
This was a day and a half trip! That means fishing a full day. We had to head home ½ way through the day. At around 5:00 pm we were standing on the dock when we should have been out fishing.
It was very suspiscious to me that Dan and his film crew got back to the dock in time to make it home for dinner. The rest of us who were expecting a full day of fishing GOT HALF OF WHAT WE PAID FOR. I emailed Dan. This is what he said:
” Yes I understand it was a different trip, but as always where we go fishing is up to the skipper, not me. We did catch a bunch of fish that trip and I feel the skipper made the right moves. Bait was a problem on all trips we had last year, that was because of all the long range boats fishing in local waters. If you read my blogs you’ll see a posted a blog about this bait problem, I’m guessing it’s going to be the same this year too.“
The problem with his answer is that other boats HAD PLENTY OF BAIT and WENT WAY OUT and LOADED UP ON TUNA.
