Gateway Academy

This place is amazing. The teachers are really helpful and I received alot of help from there. Their SAT programs did actually improve my score and the after school programs work out to actually help me.

Teacher Joseph Koh is such an awesome person to be around. He makes the experience here so much better. Thank you!

I was fortunate enough to attend Gateway Academy during high school and I honestly think it was a great environment for me to learn, study, develop leadership skills, and gain experience working with teachers from all different college backgrounds.
I was part of the TCS program and took college app classes and it really helped me get into a lot of great colleges like NYU with scholarship. It’s a great place to get tutoring help, AP, SAT I, SAT II, ACT and college apps done.
Soo Yoo, the director was my biggest mentor and counselor. She really directed me in the right direction during high school and I have her to thank for surviving through high school. I don’t regret not going to another tutoring place and I would really recommend them to anyone I know.
If you need help with math, ask for Lester who has been working and tutoring students for over 10 years.
If you need help with college applications ask for Albert who has been advising students for colleges for many years.
Brian, the manager, can speak both English and Korean fluently so its very easy to communicate with him with all your problems and concerns whether it is related to teachers, classes, and even scheduling.

As another reviewer has mentioned, these people are in it for the money. I wasn’t the brightest student in my group. Yet instead of telling me and my parents that I am better off going to community college and working my way up there, they insisted I keep taking things unnecessary for my needs. A dishonest administration if you ask me. Sort of like that dishonest mechanic if you will who tries to sell you useless things when you’re just there for a simple oil change. The director considers herself a devoted Christian but I feel like she has a love for money more than the people she «serves».
On another note, I loved the teachers here. They are all very good people and qualified when it comes to the subjects they teach. My test score has improved drastically thanks to these wonderful teachers.
If you got the brains and the will power to go to the big schools, go for it. If you’re like me and find God’s divine calling for you to be in something that doesn’t require thousands of dollars being dumped into education, forget this place. I should have known better.

They’re more in it for the money — but then again what SAT prep isn’t? The only thing the academy did for me is get me into a test-​mood by taking a test over and over again in a testing environment. They gave lots of homework and only went over some. You could pretty much pick up an SAT book and all they would need to do is tell you to do it twice a week. rip.
