My son and I had lunch here yesterday and it was okay. We both ordered the Spam Musubi and my son ordered the Spicy Ramen which looked a little greasy for ramen. The musubi was good bcuz I like spam, but it had way too much rice. The cashier was not very friendly, he seemed a little bothered. Maybe he was having a bad day…

When HIBBQ first opened, they gave too much rice and small portions of whatever meat you ordered. Today, they give an appropriate amount of both. The prices are very reasonable for the food you are getting. The only complaint I would have about this place is the overly complicated menu. Not complicated in the sense that one could not figure it out. Complicated in the sense that they make all these different combinations of plates for no apparent reason. They have«Aloha» and«Combo» plates but their doesn’t seem to be much of a difference between the two other than the fact you get more than one kind of meat from the«Combo» plate. I might be simpler just to list the different kinds of meat and then have a 1, 2, or 3 item plate with just 3 different prices. That would be much simpler for customers to figure out. Other than that, great place to get a quick bite to eat.

When you say«Goodbye», I say«Hello» When I see a «Good Buy», I say«Hello» $ 5.99 Today’s Special BBQ Chicken plate Hi BBQ is a Korean-staffed Hawaiian BBQ eatery, located at the Los Cerritos Center food court, residing in the former location of Lamajoon. Walking by, my eyes spied the large banner advertising«Today’s Special Hawaiian BBQ Chicken/$ 5.99». I thought«Si, como no?» $ 5.99 gets teriyaki chicken, accompanied with rice & macaroni salad. The meat was a fair portion, with a sweet teriyaki glaze, laid on top a bed of cabbage. The macaroni salad was okay, at best. I’m not too big on mac salad to begin with. I’m a potato salad kind of guy. The steamed rice was deliciously moist & tender. Considering it’s a food court & at a price point of $ 5.99, it’s a respectable dining option. Hi BBQ also serves short rib, Califorina rolls & udon soup, among others. I inquired about the udon soup, which has two options — one w/o meat & one with shrimp. The lady working the counter told me the shrimp udon comes with two shrimp. Not very enticing to me, I must say. Service was okay. The lady quickly took my order & began cooking up my dish with a minimal wait. She was surprised when I name dropped Korean dishes that I like to her. Parking is at the Los Cerritos Center. Hi BBQ is located on the right of Hot Dog On A Stick. Hi BBQ is a decent option at the Los Cerritos Center food court, when compared with the rest of the competition. Sbarro, Panda Express, McDonald’s & Subway don’t appeal to me. Hi BBQ& Sarku Japan share similar items, and with the BBQ chicken, I believe Sarku has the better product. But, give Hi BBQ a shot and you might not come away disappointed, especially when there’s a special of the day.

I’ve eaten at this location a few times because I work in the Cerritos mall and I’ll say I’m pretty satisfied overall. I only order teriyaki chiccen. The prices are decent about the same amount you would pay for the same thing at l&l and the guys working there are pretty nice. My orders have always been correct and put out in a timely manner.

Don’t order the beef short ribs! It had the texture of rubber. Couldn’t eat it. Waste of money.

My god. I’m usually not picky at all with food; I just eat for protein and gains and im satisfied. Taste is not an importance to me, but please… save yourself from going here because their chicken katsu has absolutely no meat in it. It’s LITERALLY all fried. I’m not even exaggerating. I mean I definitely encourage you to try their chicken katsu just to experience how meatless a Hawaiian bbq store can get. Ridiculous. And the macaroni tastes like its been in the fridge for ages.

I would give them zero stars if you could. The gyoza was literally a frozen packet you can find at any walmart or dollar store. I ordered the Chicken katsu bento. When i told her the order, she did not even know what the katsu bento was. It took me ten minutes to explain what i wanted. The katsu was a piece of fried and breaded cardboard with the meat reminiscent of toxic sewage. The california roll was uncooked crab imitation wrapped with sticky card stock. The sauce was something youd find in a cheap asian dollar store — not even the good kind. Overall, my experience was traumatic and I hate everyone

AVOIDTHISHORRIBLEEXCUSEFOR A HAWAIIANBBQPLACE. I know it’s mall food but it’s still COMPLETELY awful. I ordered the chicken katsu combo and the portion of chicken was sooo small, especially compared to other Hawaiian bbq places I’ve been to. The macaroni salad was the absolute worst. All I tasted was mayonnaise, I couldn’t even finish it. The spam musubi was small and fell apart easily. For the poor quality food, I would expect it to be cheaper than other Hawaiian bbq places but my meal combo with spam musubi was $ 13. Not worth it at all. I wish I could give negative stars. Please, just NEVER come here. EVER.

Macaroni salad is dry & has no flavor what so ever. Won’t be coming back that’s for sure!

Wow! What a poor excuse for local grinz! Food sucks! Service is worst. Huge disappointment. I don’t understand why service is so bad, no one is eating here! Who are they busy with? The two cooks were spending time chatting with a friend. The poor cashier was taking all the orders AND preparing the food for me and the one other person in front of me. That’s why it took 20 mins! I mean I wasn’t expecting kama’aina or anything, but how about alittle aloha spirit? The one and only ‘local’ thing about this spot… LAZY workers. Just like being back in HI, but at least you get alittle aloha in the islands.

Hi BBQ is new in the Cerritos Mall food court. I’m very disappointed. I think this will be my last option whenever I come here. I order a the #1 Comb plate(chicken and beef) the chicken was good just the way it’s supposed to be but the beef was too salt and the macaroni salad didn’t have any flavor it need some salt and plus they mixed in potatoes so I didn’t know what I was eating, a potatoe salad or a macaroni salad.

So nice to see a Hawaiian BBQ location in the mall! Not only Hawaiian but after Johnny Rockets closed in 2009 and seeing other restaurants fail I hope they stay. Funny I worked at the Johnny Rockets that was at this site for 5yrs so it sweet to see my fav type of food at a place I spent many years. The mac salad was perfect not to gushyn or dry Chicken katsu PERFECTION! The owner was very nice & friendly as well as the cook. Food made fresh to order. My fav has & always will be The Loft… I can settle for this since its closer & prices are reasonable for the amount of food.

Hi BBQ was one of the places I was looking forward to getting my lunch at… Super disappointed! Although they are a new spot, I would think the food would at least be ok. The portions size for the BBQ chicken was plenty for me(one scoop rice, one scoop macoroni salad, some veggies, and a good portion of chicken). Here’s a few more details Chicken was good… With the teriyaki sauce. You can’t just mix macaroni and mayo and call it macaroni salad! Yuck! Also, get the person taking orders to ask if I want a drink before the transaction is over! I ordered a combo for lunch so I definitely had to get one after the fact. Overall, won’t eat here again. I’d rather get my chicken teriyaki at Sarku Japan.

Hi BBQ is the newest addition to the cerritos mall food court. It’s a Hawaiian BBQ spot that just opened this past Thursday(took the spot of the Mediterranean/kebab place next to hot dog on a stick). As with most new food spots, Hi BBQ is still working out a few kinks. Not all the drinks advertised on the menu are there yet… alas, no Lilikoi drink for lunch this time. We ordered the following: 1) Gogi Tacos — you get 2 small tacos(think street tacos/food truck tacos sized). As for the Gogi, the sauce has a spicy kick to it. So if that’s not your thing, make sure you tell them not spicy as I think the spice came from the sauce poured on top. Tacos were okay. For the price, not sure if it’s worth it. The meat had a good flavor though. 2) Side order of spam musubi-you get 2 per order. Their version of musubi is with the small strip of nori wrapped around the middle. Probably just personal preference, but I like my musubi fully wrapped with nori=)! Noticed that with both musubi, half of the rice would fall off after the first bite. All good though, spam and rice are always a winner for me. 3) Combo plate of BBQ beef and chicken katsu. Hehe don’t expect the crazy big portions like L&L or The Loft. Beef wasn’t bad. I noticed while the staff cooked my katsu that they were still getting the cooking time right. Saw my katsu get put back in the fryer for a second go after it started getting chopped. So yeah, katsu was quite crispy. Hubby didn’t seem to mind it… but since the chicken was pounded so thin, I felt like we were just eating the crispy batter at that point. And boo no katsu sauce — only teriyaki available. Not sure if that’s something they’re working on. When I asked for katsu sauce, i was told they only had teriyaki. So even though there were a few hiccups with our ordering, I’d say Hi is typical for mall food. Would I go back? Yeah if I was craving spam musubi at the mall. But then again, the other 2 Hawaiian spots aren’t too far…
