It’s hard to remember to come here for a burger, a Bishop location would kill the competition and triple the revenue. Even a food truck would turn a good profit. Besides the location the Burgers here are nothing less to amazing. As I said before on Facebook it puts In and Out to Shame! It really does, I used to default to Burger barn for a burger but I ended up just eating there chicken sandwiches and the specials because I didn’t care for the burgers there. As long as I can remember to make it out to chally then I have a awesome place to enjoy a real American burger! Who ever gave bad reviews here are just haters, here’s a though if you have a problem then have them fix it don’t just go bitch to Unilocal about it, them if they don’t fix it write the review.

So you’re driving along a desolate lonely road called highway 6 and you’re immediately regretting not grabbing a bite and restroom break 15 miles behind you in bishop, when bam!!! Chalfant mercantile is now in your sights. Being just happy to buy a bottle of water to use the rest room guilt free was my anticipation however, a huge surprise slaps me in the face. There are a lot of people in this place eating some absolutely gorgeous looking food. That along with the smell of every good aroma possible made all of our stomachs growl in unison! Forget the bottle of water lets eat! And eat we did! My family had a great and I mean great lunch with some great beverages and wonderful service. This is definitely a mono county gem. Five stars hands down I’d be ok with six if that was possible. I definitely will be back!

Can’t believe I’ve lived in Bishop for a year and a half and am just now trying it out — what a treat! Only restaurant near Bishop worth eating at. Drive the extra ten miles out of town and get some good food instead of the crap Bishop restaurants call food.

It’s only a few minutes outside of Bishop and well worth it. A very relaxed atmosphere, excellent service, and quality food! Nice, fresh, hand made burger patties on a variety of buns. Be patient as all the meals are cooked to order, very nice lunch/dinner spot. We will be back without question.

We pass by the Chalfant Mercantile on Hwy 6 when traveling to and from California from Idaho. Usually we pass by at strange gourde but today we were able to stop for lunch I our way out of town. I’ve heard nothing but great things about it from the Bishop locals and was excited to finally give it a change. The place is immaculate, the service is very helpful and friendly and there is both inside dinning our coveted outdoor dining. We had never seen the menu so one of the employees went over it with us and helped us choose. There are soooo many side choices that it was hard to pick! My husband chose a cheeseburger with Garlics fries and I chose the chicken club with beer battered fries. My husband inhaled his burger while I was in the bathroom so I didn’t get to take a photo of it. He said it was delicious and by the look of his face he thoroughly enjoyed it. I opted for a slice of cheddar and a slice of Jack instead of the usual Swiss. It was one of the best chicken sandwiches I’ve had in years!!! The bacon the used is premium and cooked to perfection. They did not skimp on the avocado one bit and that’s my favorite part! We ordered to go because we wanted to get on the road but next time we will sit down and enjoy our food at a table. The sandwiches are too large and delicious to be eaten in a car easily.

If you find yourself on highway 6 you must stop here!!! Don’t blink you will miss this hidden gem in the middle of nowhere! Picture a quick little market to grab emergency eggs or milk combined with a little boutique that has cute purses combined with a diner and a beer and wine bar. That is this little place!!! The food is amazing and reasonably priced. Just popping in to grab a bottle of water and you smell the food and have to sit down and grab a bite! Good portions at good prices. I will be back!

This out of the way place has the best burgers and fries, fries can be pesto, Cajun, garlic or sweet potato. Beef is excellent and the staff was awesome, we talked to the cook while she was making our meal. Local company makes buns, delish!

Best Burger By Bishop. I live in SF, but have worked in Bishop for the last 3 years on a project, thus I’ve eaten at pretty much every restaurant in town. I’d say Chalfant Mercantile whoops up on all the others in or near Bishop. Literally one of the top five burgers of my life(I don’t like to pick absolute favorites… too subjective). All the food appears to be made from scratch(cole slaw is awesome), the service is friendly and they serve beer. The place is impeccably clean also. If you’re into burgers or other Americana type fare(sandwiches, salads, etc), avoid all the others and take a 10 minute drive up Highway 6… you’ll be glad you did.

Rode in on my Dual Sport over the Glass Mountains from Mammoth and stopped to get gas and grab a bit. The burgers were UNREAL! I’ve been talking about them to everyone I see. Whenever I’m in the area I will make a point to drop in. Family owned and operated as I found out while there and they were super cool people. The place was super clean, and was nicely set up all around. You can tell they took great pride in their store. Highly recommend!
