I don’t understand these reviews. Canned mushrooms in an omelet in 2010? And the canned corned beef hash. Canned corned beef, tha’ts heaven in a jar. But canned hash? I just can’t do it. it doesn’t take much to make fresh food. I had great hopes for this place, because I could walk here, but I would rather spend my money and exercise my tastebuds where there’s fresh food.

What kind of soi-disant Southern restaurant has NOBUTTER?! I’m sorry, no matter how good your biscuits are, if all you’ve got is «Fresh Buttery Taste Spread» that’s only 4% dairy, they’re bound to disappoint. Now that I’ve got that out of my system, I can also allow that it’s good to have a $ 1.49 cup of coffee with refills, an honest three-egg omelet, and some home fries. But please, y’all, get some butter. 4%-dairy«Fresh Buttery Taste Spread» makes the Baby Jesus cry.

How… Why…They must be kidding! Have you ever felt like being taken for granted and treated as a complete schmuck. Ok, well maybe that is a bit far fetched but I certainly felt that way after my nightmare dining experience. I went there after I was recommended by a friend who probably doesn’t know the difference between Grade A beef and Grade D beef which is dogfood quality. After entering this eatery I was expecting a decent breakfast as it looked as if it was capable of doing just that. There was a special on the white board and it was salmon patties(I always seem to get screwed on specials, I think I might have to give them a second thought when I order them in the future), the patties sounded like a plan as I haven’t had those in years. They came with eggs and toast. Upon the dish arriving, the Salmon patties appeared a little darker in color from what I have seen. I didn’t really give it too much notice as I was just hungry and wanted something to eat. Well, to my chagrin, these things were made of Tuna, not Salmon. I knew it because I eat Tuna all the time and usually Salmon patties are somewhat pink in color. I was at this point disgusted with this experience and just wanted to finish up the eggs and items on the plate. I left feeling absolutely ripped off and they were misrepresenting themselves as to what they were offering on the menu. Stay clear of this spot because they could be misrepresenting other parts of the menu as well.

I ate there for breakfast in July. Everything I had on my plate came from the freezer section, except my scrambled eggs. It was painfully obvious. Made from scratch biscuits are really pillsbury frozen, their smoked bacon was the pre-cooked kind I buy at Kroger. One can tell that it was nuked for 12 seconds by how thin it was and how unevenly cooked it became. Their homefries were the potatoes O’brian version you get from Ore Ida. Overall very disappponted and would not return for breakfast. You can likely deduce that the rest of their food, with the exception of deli sandwiches would be frozen quality because of the extremely large selection on their menu. No restaurant can maintain that many fresh selections.

This place needs patronage! My review is a old in the sense that I haven’t been there since May but I gotta say it was tasty. It’s that classic cafeteria look feel with good old comfort food. Meatloaf sandwich is delicious, standard sides of French Fries were also tasty. My wife has ordered the burgers and chicken sandwiches — pleased with both as well. Unfortuately I can’t order anything other than the meatloaf sandwich seeing that I’ve found heaven and don’t want to change. Hope they can stick around!

This place is a great breakfast joint at any time of day. I have only eaten breakfast here, but I’m not sure why anyone would order anything else. You can’t beat good biscuits and gravy! I’m sure their other food is good too and I’ll have to venture out soon to try it. The service is good and the wait staff is nice. It’s priced about like a Waffle House, maybe just a little more. Large family sized tables and fun for a group. A really good place to enjoy a big breakfast after a long night of drinking!

I took my 8 year old here for a first time breakfast today. I had fully intended to order an Egg Beaters veggie omelette, fruit and toast with jam, but somehow I ended up asking for the corned beef hash! Southern Skillet is just that kind of place, you CAN order healthy but you really don’t want to. My son the Carb Freak got his dream breakfast — a bacon biscuit with cheddar cheese and a side order of the home fries. He loved the home fries so much that I relented and let him order another … may as well let him while he still has the tapeworm metabolism. My corned beef hash was what I had wanted — little bits of potato and corned beef very nicely crusted on the outside. I can’t say it was homemade … in all likelihood it came from a can but I didn’t care. It came with two eggs any style, a choice of side order and choice of biscuit, grits or toast. My poached eggs were done perfectly, just solid enough on the outside to transfer one at a time to the hash, and still gooey on the inside. I ordered tomatoes as my virtuous side and a biscuit I couldn’t eat. I’m not a biscuit eater but my son loved them, and my poke test showed them to be fluffy on the inside and nicely browned on the outside. My teen was disappointed to discover that I had forgotten to bring it home for her. We got out of there for less than $ 16 including tax, very reasonable for the amount of food we ordered. We’ll definitely come back with the entire family. A definite plus is the restaurant’s size; it seems unlikely to me that there would ever be a wait. On a Saturday morning around 9 it was busy enough to be comfortably buzzing. The service was friendly and attentive. One thing to note … the hours apparently have changed, to dispense with dinner(they serve lunch as well as breakfast). And, I saw on the way out that the restaurant is up for sale. The Southern Skillet is located in a strip mall that appears to be suffering from lack of business. I’m sure this has a lot to do with the state of the economy, and I hope that the restaurant is able to stick around.

The Southern Skillet is right around the corner from my house(if you read my reviews, you will notice that I live«around the corner» from a LOT of restaurants), so my husband and I ate there recently while we were waiting for my tires to be rotated at the Firestone down the street. The place was completely empty when we got there, so I suppose that it’s unsurprising that our service was extremely fast. Our server was a total sweetheart, and our food was really good. We had country fried steak with eggs, biscuits and gravy. It was DELICIOUS. Would definitely eat here again. I’d like to come back and try lunch sometime.

I’ve tried breakfast and lunch at the Southern Skillet, and find the food to be tasty and have good portions. The biscuits are big and their gravy is delicious. They have a huge variety of side dishes and veggies on their menu, and they also have a board with their specials of the day. The only disappointing item I’ve had was the cornbread, which was quite bland. The waitstaff is very nice but service can be slow at times if the place is crowded. The space is actually quite large and sits a lot of people; I’d be shocked if there was ever a wait for a table. This will definitely be our go-to spot for weekend breakfasts.

As a self-described connoisseur of Southern food, I have to give four stars to the Southern Skillet. The portions are generous, the service is usually good, and the menu is extensive. The food is solid– not as good as some other places in Atlanta, but it will definitely satisfy any Southern food cravings you have. I’ve been for breakfast and lunch, and I’ve enjoyed my meal both times.

This is the second location of the Southern Skillet which has been in Roswell for many years. I’m not exactly sure when this location opened. I have been a few times. It is typical southern fare meat-and-two with a great breakfast menu as well. The space is rather large with no booths, just tables, and southern-themed knick knacks that look like they’re from the local antiques stores on the walls. The service the few times I have been has been just ok. If you’re in the area and craving some good country cooking, check it out.
