I think it’s extremely shady that you have to ask for an invoice or a breakdown of costs. I had an oil change done and had to ask for it and then I had over $ 2,200 in repairs done to my car (shocks, struts ect.) I thought I got a good price until I got home. I Googled the parts and found they marked up the parts 150%-200% AND they still charged labor. I understand the need for labor but the parts cost jacked up by 2.5x’s is ridiculous. I could have them overnighted from Japan for cheaper. I can also understand a 20−50% mark up for picking the part up or ordering it but they still charged «Shop fees»
I received a customer service call 2 days later asking about the service and I informed her about my disappointment about the price mark ups and all she said was «i’ll let my manager know». I never heard back. One nice thing is they drive you somewhere when you drop your car off.

I’ve had an overheating problem on the way to the Willard airport. I stopped by this CarX for a quick check due to some good review here. They charged me $ 104 for a just opening the engine. The nice thing is they gave me a free ride to Willard airport. After one day, a guy from CarX called me and told me that my car had a head gasket leak. The cost for fixing it is $ 2500. They also told me that my cylinders need replacement. The cost for each cylinder is $ 700 not including material costs of other things… The total cost minimum is $ 2500 + $ 700×6, which is totally unreasonable since my car only worth about $ 3000. I would rather sell my car instead.
Then, i reached a local mechanics suggested by a friend. After examined the car, he disagreed with CarX and said the problem i had is a timing cover gasket leak. He suggested me to fix it and change the thermostat. The total cost is $ 979, including car inspection and removing the check engine light. That’s totally solved my problem. After a few days, a girl from CarX called me and said they will do a price match if i can find someone fixing my car at a lower price. I just ignored her after all the disappointments with CarX overpriced quote. Unless you are rich and really love CarX, don’t go for it. It will severely hurt your wallet. There are many honest and excellent mechanics in town.

I came here based on Unilocal recommendations, and knowing that because they’re a local chain, that that would likely have a waiting room where I could have my services done without dropping the car off.
I needed three things done with my car: (1) a standard oil change, (2) to check some lines that were chewed up by squirrels under my hood, and (3) to verify if that was the cause of my windshield wiper fluid not spraying (it was working just a week prior).
The waiting room is pretty standard. Coffee is available and they have cable TV playing, with plenty of seating. The interaction with me was standard as well.
What I had issues with is that they did not carefully check why my windshield wiper fluid was not dispensing. After I had my oil change done, they told me that they replaced one of the hoses under my hood related to the sprayers that the squirrels bit up, but it still wasn’t working and the windshield wiper fluid simply needed to defrost due to the cold weather. Just moving from Texas, and snow had just fallen the previous day or so, I assumed that this might have been the case.
I waited until the weather was above freezing, and drove my car for thirty minutes in hopes of warming what’s under my hood, but the windshield wiper fluid would still not come out. It also did not make sense that my fluid would freeze since my dipstick for the washer fluid came out without any issues or evidence of freezing.
After a week of trying to figure this thinking about this on my own, it turns out that there was an electrical wire that was right next to the washer fluid container that was split. This was the reason why my windshield wiper fluid would not come out. ***It had nothing to do with it freezing, which is what Car-​X suggested, and I can only guess that they assumed it froze, but didn’t bother to check for any other explanation.***
The other issue I had with them is that while they replaced the hose for the windshield wiper fluid, they missed a vacuum pump hose that was chewed up. If they actually looked around my engine, it would have been very noticeable. I ended up going to another repair shop to have it replaced.
In terms of pricing, their oil change price is pretty standard, but their transmission fluid change (which they correctly recommended, but I did not accept) was slightly more expensive than other local independent shops. This place also seems to charge a small $ 5 fee for installation of some parts that don’t take very much effort at all, and would be installed without charge at other local independent shops.
I personally did not have the experience I was hoping for based on previous Unilocal reviews. If I needed a quick oil change, I might come back, but not for any other services.

I have taken multiple cars over the past few years to this location for mostly generic maintenance (installing tires purchased on tirerack, oil changes, fluids) and a couple of times to replace O2 sensors and CV boot joints. I have found their prices fair and their customer service top notch. They don’t recommend unnecessary services either. Param (the owner) owns quite a few Car-​X locations in the region, but he’s often working at this location and is knowledgeable about cars, so I get a sense of this being a local business (a plus on my books).

The Car-​X on Neil Street offers good quality workmanship and good customer service. They stand by their work.
I’ve had them work on my vehicle three times, and on all occasions, their waiting time was less than they estimated, as was the price of the services I had done.
One visit involved a battery that was discharging frequently. They tested it and found that it was unable to hold a charge. Because I had purchased the battery only a year and a half earlier to replace the factory-​installed battery that came with my car, they replaced it for me with no charge whatsoever for the battery or for the labor. This was done on their own volition without prompting from me.
My most recent visit was for an air conditioner that was cooling only sporadically. They found I was low on coolant, which suggests the possibility of a slow leak. They recharged my system and added an ultraviolet dye so that if the leak persists, they will better be able to identify the source. The beautiful thing is that the refrigerant is under a lifetime warranty, so that all I’ll be on hook for should the leak continue will be labor and parts to fix the leak.
For those who want to wait while their vehicle is serviced, Car-​X has coffee and popcorn; there is also a Culver’s and Arby’s nearby, among other dining locations. For those who don’t want to wait, Car-​X offers shuttle service to deliver and pick-​up their customers elsewhere in town.
The staff doesn’t try to sell products and services that your vehicle doesn’t need, and they offer good work that they stand by at a fair price.

Best customer service. Most knowledgeable. I never think of taking my car anywhere else. They keep appointments and have always stuck to it. That’s the most important thing for me.

I took my car in to have an oil change today. This was the first time I have taken it someplace other than the dealer. I was able to get in pretty quickly. I’d never been here before, this was my first visit.
I was having a problem with a tire pressure light coming on. They checked my tires and reset the light. They even checked the pressure in my spare. That was the only one that was low, go figure.
The man I talked to on the phone was really friendly and polite. Everyone I talked to in the store was equally friendly.
Since my pre-​paid service on my car has run out from the dealership, I think Car X will be my new go-​to place for oil changes and such.

My car had been making this weird gurgling noise when I had the a/​c on and turned corners. I had no idea why it was doing that, but wasn’t super concerned. I should have been, as one day I got in my car and noticed that the passenger side floor was soaking wet. It turns out that the a/​c filter was clogged and the blower motor was acting as a water pump, thus flooding the entire system. They got that fixed for $ 80-​something, no problem. Sweet!
The bad part is that my little engine light (which actually signifies an emissions problem) had also been on. I assumed the weird noise and the light going on at roughly the same time meant they were related. So, of course, when I went to Car-​X, I told the guy at the front desk both issues. I wound up having to repeat the issues a couple times for some reason known only to that guy. But I finally left and the above paragraph happened, so I wasn’t too worried.
After I came to pick up my car (10 minutes before they closed and just after my ride to Car-​X had taken off), I got in and noticed that the engine light was STILL on. Crap! I called Car-​X the next day to ask about why it was still on. They reviewed my work order and found nothing about it being on or needing to be looked at, etc. Surprise! Thanks, Front Desk Dude. I shouldn’t be totally shocked, though, given that he wrote my street (which is Columbia) as Calombea. The real question is, though, why didn’t the mechanics notice the light was on and mention something when they called? That one is a mystery for the ages.
My husband just reminded me that he took my car in after that to have them hook it up to some diagnostic tool to find out what the emissions problem was. The guy on the front desk (probably the same one I’d dealt with, but there’s no way to confirm this) was chatting on the phone for 10 minutes while Husband waited to drop off the keys. At no point did the guy acknowledge his presence, even to say «I’ll be with you in a minute.» When confronted about the rudeness of making a customer wait that long without acknowledgment, Front Desk Guy upbraided Husband about how «if (husband) were on the phone, he’d have appreciated the attention.» Class-​y.
So, in sum… I dunno. On the one hand, they fixed one problem competently and cheaply (and the mechanic was super nice and helpful). On the other hand, they clearly have some problems to iron out with customer service and attention to detail.
