What a discovery! On our way back to Montréal on I87, we decided to stop at the last exit before the border for a treat! Who could have expected to find out that this Maplefields truck stop that normally serves Irving Branded gas and other conveniences was hiding an Amato franchise that serves fresh 100% original Maine Lobster Rolls — delicious and at a budget price of $ 7.99? Amato’s Sandwich Shops is a chain of sandwich and pizza shops in northern New England founded in 1902 by Giovanni Amato. Today franchises can be located in Irving Oil/Circle K locations in Maine and New Hampshire and Maplefield’s locations in Vermont and New York and is best known for its Italian sandwich, called«the Real Italian». Highly sought, the lobster roll is available throughout the summer at most places. At this location you can pick one up ready made or ask for one to be freshly prepared. Terry, the gentle man behind the counter, opened a signature soft, chewy roll, dressed it with a crisp romaine lettuce heart leaf(to keep it dry), then added a giant heap full scoop of finely chopped sweet lobster meat mixed a heavenly portion of mayonnaise. The perfect snack on a hot summer afternoon! Stop to take a bite into a giant portioned Lobster rolls while you can and say Hi to Terry!
