I came in requesting some herbs for bone health and had some questions concerning ideas for a sleep aid. Vicki was so helpful and informative. She was genuinely concerned about my overall mental health as well as physical health and gave me a few ideas, in addition to some herbs. I have been a customer for a few years, and always have a great time when I come to visit. Their essential oils really fill the air with amazing scents. I use them mostly in a diffuser for my business/​home and everyone is always commenting on how great it smells.

I received over 300 hours of clinical aromatherapy training and run my own Aromatherapy/​essential oil blog. I only came to Desert Sage Herbs because it was on a recommended list to buy essential oils.
I needed yarrow essential oil for a meditation inhalant blend I was developing and I needed the oils in less than a week. At the time of this post, I know that MountainRoseHerbs sells ¹⁄₈^th of an ounce for about $ 38 and Ananda sells 12mls for about $ 32 at the time of this post. I needed this oil within 5 days and I was willing to pay rush shipping for the oil if i ordered it online. But I I decided to give Desert sage herbs a try (I had never been there before).
I live in Glendale and drove over 40 miles (80 miles round trip) to get to Desert Sage Herbs and the first thing I noticed was how I was ignored by staff… no ‘Hi’, ‘How are you’, ‘How can I help you, etc’. But it was ok because I started to look around to see what they had. Keep in mind, this is a very small store, and it is very hard NOT to notice that a customer is in the shop.
After about 10 — 15 minutes of looking, I had grabbed a few items (I had about $ 50 worth of items in hand and was going to buy) when a really nice woman with a brown pony tail finally came to me and asked me if she could do anything to help.
I asked her if she had any Yarrow essential oil and she said ‘Yes we do’ and proceeded to reach to get the bottle of Yarrow. But then a blonde woman with short wavy hair looked at the woman helping me and said, ‘No we are out of Yarrow’. I looked at the bottle of Yarrow and it would have easily filled a 5/​8DRAM bottle… which is listed on Desert sage’s website for $ 22 dollars. This would have been more than enough for me. The woman assisting me began to say that it looked like they had some, but the blonde woman said, «No, we can order some, just to let you know that it is INSANELY expensive’
On Desert Sage’s website, ⁵⁄₈ dram of Yarrow is $ 22…a 1 Dram bottle is $ 36…this is not ‘insanely expensive’…
I looked at the her and said, ‘It’s ok, I’ll just order it from Ananda’ and then she paused and said, ‘If you’re not paying a lot for the Yarrow, then it is probably not good.‘
First of all, I know that Desert Sage Herbs gets a lot of their oils from Mountain Rose Herbs… and like I said, ¹⁄₈^th of an oz of Yarrow is about $ 38 dollars (at the time of this review)…I was expecting to pay this (and more for mark up from Desert Sage Herbs… but they didn’t want to sell me what they had).
I really didn’t care about the price because I needed the oil… and I knew how much to expect to pay. I could have ordered this oil online, and I was willing to pay rush shipping to get my oil in quickly…
Had the lady behind the counter have been nice to me, maybe ASK me why I needed the Yarrow and if they were really out of Yarrow (when I saw that they did) then maybe she could have recommend another oil for what I needed and I would have understood.
The lazy customer service, snooty, and condescending tone of this lady gave me was a turn off. I put everything I had in my hands back and left. I will never step foot inside this place again.
Can you imagine how frustrating it is to drive 80 miles round trip for nothing? Can you imagine driving over an hour in traffic down the 101… to be spoken down to in a condescending manner and told that they are out of something when they are not? And then implying that the oil was just too ‘insanely expensive’ (exact words)…when their own website lists the price as $ 22 for a 5/​8DRAM? I have expensive oils in my collection including Neroli, Rose, and Tuberose… I do not buy oils based on price, but I buy them based on their therapeutic and energetic benefits.
I was ready to spend a pretty penny at Desert Sage Herbs, but after the rude and snotty customer service I experienced, I put all my items back and left. I had about $ 50 dollars of times in hand and was planning on spending over $ 200 in loose herbs, flower essences, and other oils… ready to grab more items… I refuse to support lousy customer service with my hard earned money…
I am now convinced that the best place to buy oils ATM is Mountain Rose Herbs and/​or Ananda apothecary… I am even open to trying Floracopeia to get the oils I need.

They have an amazing selection of oils, herbs, teas and more. Just learning about essential oils, took a «basics» class here last month, very helpful. Look forward to visiting often and learning even more.

I visited this place twice, and each time, the workers acted as if I wasn’t even there. No greeting, but they were sure to greet everyone who came in after me. I asked one of the ladies a question, hoping that she woud offer some of her expertise, but instead she gave me a short answer, an awkward smile, and then walked away lol. That was last time I visited this store. Such a shame becasue this place is close to where I live, and I was ready to spend my money with them. I find everything that I need elsewhere, plus there’s a cool little health store right up the street filled with knowledgeable people willing to help :)

My daughter and I took their all day herbal class in October. This was a great class. Brittany and Vicki are both so knowledgable. We both learned a lot and are having a great time making the lotions, cough syrups, creams, muscle oils, lip balm, etc that we learned to make. The store is so well organized and well stocked. I am looking forward to taking more classes there.

Very clean, well organized, friendly staff. Lots of fun supplies, knowledgeable, accurate. Essential oils are great quality, great prices. The store has much to offer, and there is much potential here I haven’t even tapped yet.

I walked into this establishment today with high hopes and lots of expectations as it came highly recommended by people that have used teas from this place before. I walked it not knowing exactly who worked there and not being greeted. After about 15 min or of looking around the tea area I asked who I guessed was one of the workers of the place «do you work here» to have a reply of «yes but I have three people in front of you » … with that I said I would go. I left… I guess it was too busy for just a little bit of customer service. Best Advice. customer service will go a looooooooong way.

I wanted to find roobios tea but didn’t want the hassle of the place in the mall that tries to sell you all the tea in China so I went to Desert Sage Herbs. I will certainly be going back. They had the tea I was looking for and a few I wasn’t looking for but bought any way (no pressure from anyone except my inner tea lover). The teas all smelled fresh and I left without a hit to the wallet. I was amazed how inexpensive the teas were. I am stocked in Oolong but will return to Desert Sage when my supply runs low. They carried lots or other interesting looking things but I was kinda in a hurry.

This little cottage is tucked away in the back. The sign is easy to spot.
The owner is always so helpful in finding what we need. There is a room of wall to wall high quality spices and herbal teas. Our favorites are cayenne, tumeric and Hawthorn berries. For teas we tried the chocolate chai, kiwi/​strawberries, hibiscus, mint and dandelion. If everyone were to drink medicinal teas, we would not have so many people on pharmaceutical medications who need more compounding medication for the side effects. I really believe in ancient remedies.
Anyway, this one little cottage has everything you need for wellness; from literature, resource books, herbs, spices, alternative medicine and knick knack novelties.
In the back or the main house you will find practicing naturopaths, massage therapists, colonic machine, infrared sauna, etc.

My wife has a massage room on site here and I always enjoy the lovely smells that come from this shop. The family owned business has been around since we’ve been here (9 years) and they are always super friendly to me. I Know I have a unique perspective because of my wife’s story, but they are always nice and seem to have the store under control, not to mention they love what they do there !

I stopped by this store based on the reviews and the fact that I live in the east valley. The directions listed on the website were good and I found it quite easily. End of the good part — when I entered the store there were two people working and neither one bothered to say hello, welcome, get out — nothing! A few minutes later I did find what I was looking for and then one of the employees walked over and asked if I needed help. Told her I already found what I was interested in but wanted to see the rest of the store. It is a small place, with jars of teas and herbs so it really didn’t take me too long. I was a bit put off by the sign «God and the angels are watching you and so are we» (can’t remember if it was angels or spirits) not only once but again in the second part of the store along with a few mirrors. This struck me as a little strange as this is a holistic center and the clientele that would frequent this type of store do not need to be reminded that the employees here look at you like you are going to steal something from them. Asked a few questions about their products and felt like I was bothering them and when I was ready to check out with my purchase, I had to ask someone to ring my purchase up so I could leave. One employee was free and one was with a customer but I still had to wait. At this point, I know I should have left the purchase on the counter and left but I did wait to be rung up and paid in full. I do have to take some blame for this experience for 1) believing the reviews and) my fault for not driving to my place of choice — Chakra4 Herbs. I will not make this mistake again.

I love stopping by this secluded spot. Quiet, relaxing and their employees are always helpful. I’m there when I am under the weather and need their assistance with any herbal medicine, from food/​digestive enzymes to milk thistle for my liver. This place is great and they even offer therapy, massages, etc. Never a disappointment.

esert Sage is quickly becoming one of my favorite places. I like that it’s mother/​daughter owned. I am very adimant about supporting local small businesses. I went in looking for essential oils to burn in my home, and not really sure what else. She helped me choose oil and recommended different uses for it such as burning, putting on pulse points, adding in lotions and sprays, etc. Then I talked about my back pain and she recommended a roll-​on balm that feels amazing, instantaneous relief! They also have Spry, an all natural gum that contains Xylitol instead of Aspertame. I will definitely recommend Desert Sage to everyone I know!

Great relaxing place for herbs, a massage, or any other holistic treatment!

Was feeling rough this morning and figured I would head over to the herbalist to see what they might be able to help me with. Vicky was very helpful in recommending a few things and took her time to diagnose my condition and give me something appropriate. Its only been a few hours since I started taking what she gave me and I already feel miles better.

One of my favorite «Mom and Daughter» businesses. I’m a big tea person; I buy it here in bulk by the pound and get a discount. They have a great selection of teas, herbs, essential oils. They will keep your special formula recipes on file. Great service, great advice. One of the owners is a Clinical Herbalist. Lots of parking in front.
