The Sharper Edge

BEWARE! Do NOT hire these guys for stamped paving. The General Manager Alan is RUDE and immediately puts you on the defense and makes you out to be the bad guy. Lack of communication with appointments, invoicing and changes made to square footage for jobs. The will overcharge you when they can and forfeit your deposit if you make a change but it never gets noted that they agreed to the change. The sealer on the concrete pavers last about 3 months. The GM said, «Don’t talk over me, thats rude!» I have already answered your question so if you have another question that I haven’t answered, please ask it?”
My estimate was done 8 months prior to me scheduling and after trying to schedule the job in March and told them the dimension will be different, I was told to tell the driver when he arrives. Due to the decrease in square feet and t sending 25 workers to do this job, they will forfeit your deposit and bill you for more. I am reporting this company to the BBB and the owner of this Company needs to fire Alan. He never once tried to rectify the complaint and only wanted to tell me I was wrong. Sorry I have paid them any of my money. Don’t be fooled of the great deals! They will find a way to get it from you at the end.

Trying to get things worked out, update soon… However I had a supervisor come look at the work on my pool deck and he felt this was an acceptable finish:
I’ve had other contactors and home owners look at this and no one shares his opinion. Still waiting for Sharp to come back and finish this properly, hope to report a positive result soon.

We had our entire backyard done, with stamped concrete, a section of artificial grass, and a couple of corner planters. On June 29^th, we accepted the contract, and agreed to a flexible schedule, which meant dropping the price about a thousand dollars in exchange for pushing the schedule out.
September 18^th is when they came out and did the work — 2 and a half months after signing the contract. A long time to wait, but only a little bit longer than the 8 – 10 weeks their flexibility discount disclosed. The work took less than a day.
Later that evening, I had a close look at some of the work, and found it to be unsatisfactory. The majority of the stamped concrete was ok, with a few exceptions — some chips that were kind of expected with new concrete, and a couple rough patches. The grass seems to be good. However, the planters are absolutely awful. There were lots of cracks, a lousy paint job, a corner that was nowhere near straight, splashed paint everywhere, and it just looked terrible everywhere.
I wanted to give them a fair chance to make it right — if they could fix it, I’d still be happy with the work.
I contacted them that night, and followed up with pictures the next morning. I was told someone would be out in a couple weeks. On 10/​5, I followed up, and they were «behind schedule», in their queue for the end of October. On 10/​26, I followed up again, and was told they were still somehow way behind due to all the rain this year — there was rain, but I don’t see how a few days of rain can put you a month behind schedule for taking care of your paying customers.
On 11/​18, I gave them one more chance, clearly stating that I needed someone out there now in order to give them the opportunity to make me a satisfied customer. They called and gave me a scheduled date in mid-​January (about 4 months after I first reported their problems). I told them it was absolutely unacceptable, and asked them to inform their general manager of my disapproval. They responded and gave me a date of December 14^th, which is 3 weeks from today, and apparently that’s the best they can do. Nearly three months (and five and a half months from contract date), that’s just not good enough.
Based on my experience, this company does not seem to care about their customers’ schedules and they seem to have no concern for customer satisfaction. Regardless of whether or not they clean up their issues when they finally come out, I would not recommend this company.
BTW, all the photos I’ve attached here were taken the day after the job was completed, and I sent all of them to Sharp, showing them exactly why I was dissatisfied.

I just had a completed job with Sharp Contracting and couldn’t be happier. My long asphalt driveway was all cracked and I wanted to do something unique on my historic home in Phoenix. I decided to do stamped concrete (London Pattern) for my driveway, walk way and porch. They gave me a very competitive bid with amazing professionalism. I would recommend them to anyone I know.

Worst company ever! DO NOT do business with this sleazy firm. Their approach to customer service is, «The customer is always wrong.» They damaged the interior (Pebble Tech) of our pool on a deck remodel and still haven’t returned to fix it after promising to do so. During deck demolition, they broke the PVC pipe to the auto-​filler. They noticed it and pumped a bunch of silicone around the break hoping that we wouldn’t notice, As soon as we turned on the filler it started leaking. Six months later and numerous calls, we finally got an inspector out who confirmed the damage and scheduled a crew to repair it. Two months later, a crew came and pumped more silicone in the hole — that helped :-(- They finally contracted a company to replace the broken auto-​filler, and the job has about 75% complete when they called and asked for money to complete their warranty work — WHAT???
Run fast from this sleazy, fast talking company.

Results:
Thin coat had to be redone because it was basically a thin coat of cement with lines mimicking tile. The redo was better but nothing like it looks on the picture they advertise.
Cool deck was so bad, spots were showing through of the old paint where ever water hit the deck, awful.
Ask for it to be repainted but all they did was spot treated. The new spots were different color than the paint originally used and only in a couple areas when the whole deck needed it.
It took nearly 6 weeks from original estimate because I chose the discount if you wait for their convenience which is fine.
But it took nearly 5 months for the redo because of rain delays and scheduling conflicts.
Overall, I would not recommend to my friends or family.
To the rest of the Unilocalers… take your chances. It might work out for you, didn’t for me.

We just hired Sharp Contracting to refinish our pool slide/​rock feature. It looks so much better and we are so happy with the results. The crew that came and did the work were very nice and made sure we were pleased with the work before they left.
We previously had just the slide redone by the company that built the pool and the finish was already peeling after just one summer of use. After seeing the difference in the quality of work I can tell this will last for years.

These guys did a great job on our concrete. Showed up on time and got it done in one day. Actually had very surprisingly great experience… way better then the idiots I hired to do my curbs a few years ago. I don’t know why others are saying the things they are here… these guys were seriously so great. We are probably going to have them come back and do some pavers for us in a few months, very hard to find contractors like this.

Hands down these guys are the best at what they do. Not sure what’s up with all the other reviewers, but these guys are nothing like what people are saying here. I have a pool slide /​waterfall feature that was built back around 2006 and in 2015 it was showing its age, so it was time for a restoration.
These guys completely restored and made it look new again. All the cracks are gone from the slide and it looks like it is fast! I can’t wait for summer. The kids are gonna be so happy to not scratch their butts anymore on the slide! (See the pics I uploaded) it is seriously a day and night difference.
I can’t thank Sharp Contracting enough for the work they did. Their crew was respectful and very kind. They made sure everything was to my liking. I highly recommend them. I am serious, feel free to reach out to me and ask me any questions personally about these guys. I hate seeing good companies attacked.

have absolutely no idea how any bad reviews occurred… we had stamped concrete installed yesterday… crew was professional, all in uniform, and friendly… and the job turned out even more beautiful than I had thought it would be… they are coming back in three weeks to do thin coat around island kitchen… highest recommendation for this outfit!

Do not ever do business with this joke of an outfit. They act like it is a privilege to have them tell you when they can schedule you to do the work. Then when they no show you they don’t even have the courtesy to call to tell you they won’t make it that day. Talked to the owner after multiple calls only to learn that he is the king jackass. He couldn’t understand that I wanted an apology and to be told an exact time that they would show up to FIX what they had already screwed up. This thick headed moron couldn’t even guarentee me a time they would show up much less care if I did actually call the BBB. Oh yeah, what they fixed only lasted a few months before pealing up again. NEVER NEVER NEVER do business with this clown show of an outfit. You have been warned…

This company is the absolute worst!!! Do not use them!!! I hired them to do an acrylic coat on my patio and pool deck. It was a disaster… looked terrible, was coming off right after it was done. The customer service was awful. The owners, Bill and Alan, were rude, insulting, did not care at all about the poor job their company had done, and just wanted to argue about everything. They weren’t standing behind their work at all, until I filed a complaint with the ROC, at which time Sharper Edge said they wanted to satisfy me by putting down stamped concrete over the acrylic coat, at a «reduced cost» which was, of course, well over and beyond what I had already paid for the acrylic coat. Stupid me fell for it again, and ended up with a even more costly and even worse product with the stamped concrete. It was so horrible, I didn’t even go in my backyard for like 1.5 years because it was such a disaster. I had numerous people come look at the stamped concrete, thinking maybe it was just me who thought it looked awful. Everyone, across the board, thought it was awful. The quality was terrible, too… flaking, cracking, just a mess. On top of everything, they were so careless when putting in the concrete that they allowed lots of concrete to get into my pool, which ruined my filter, and left permanent blotches on the bottom of the pool. I again filed complaint with the ROC, which was a joke. The ROC is another story, but suffice it to say that I spent about 10K for this debacle, then finally bit the bullet and spent another 7K to have another contractor come and remove the whole mess and put down new cool deck. Then I had to spend 5K to have my pool resurfaced, plus more for repairs to the filter and motor. So, all in all, the Sharper Edge cost me 20K+ for nothing but lots of frustration. So please, heed my advice, and do not use this company!

I only put a star to leave the facts. Did a built in bbq, 1^st day got a lot done but a bit bogy, we had to make several patch areas at the bottom, and then we didn’t know when they were coming back? No plans to return were set, finally did come back, like I said more bogy sloppy work, also the guys today to do electrical and plumbing did not seem to know what they were connecting as it didn’t work, they connected the wrong wires. By bf tested it with a tool, good thing they didn’t concrete over it yet or they would have to dig it up. Supposed to be back tomorrow to finish. Does it really take a month to so a built in bbq? We put in the equipment ourselves. Kinda useless bunch really. Bad quality, service too. Sorry guys but you need to work on quality and service.

3 weeks to wait for them to come out and do the job after the job was done another three weeks before they could come out and clean up their mess. Unacceptable.
This company also goes by sharp contracting. Avoid.

We had Sharp contracting out in December of 2012 to recolor and reseal our pool and patio deck. 6 months later the color is flaking off and the sealant is turning yellow. I called Kathra at Sharp Contracting on ⁷⁄₂₅ to set up a warranty appointment. She said they are 3 weeks out on warranty work and someone will call me back. Well, 3 weeks later, no phone call. I called her back on ⁸⁄₁₄ and she said they are still 3 weeks out on warranty work (so they want me to wait 6 weeks to even make me an appointment??) No, I said someone needs to call me back tomorrow with an appointment date. She calls back on the 15^th and says I have an appointment setup for the following week. Well, I waitied between 7:00 and 11:00 for them to show up and guess what? NOBODY showed up! No phone call, nothing.
I talked to Kathra again on the 23^rd. She didn’t seem to care that nobody showed up. No «I’m sorry or I’ll look into it», just our scheduler is not here and he’ll call you back next week. I’m filing a compaint with BBB and ROC.
