History

Established in 2008.

Family Vet was established by Dr. Chau and her husband, both natives of Loudoun County (having attended Broad Run High School.) They created a practice that clients and staff would enjoy coming to, so they took a lot of inspiration from award-​winning hospitals nationwide. The hospital features a large reception area with plenty of natural light. Loudoun Times Mirror reviewed the business and pricing and determined that pricing was competitive with other vet hospitals in the area. AngiesList gave it their highest rating, and awarded the Super Service Award to Family Vet above all other vets in the entire DC metro area. Dr. Chau is «Vet Guru» for I Am Modern Magazine (a DC publication) and was named a Top Vet in Virginia by Virginia Living Magazine.

Business Owner

Dr. Chau went to school in Loudoun and Fairfax, and later received degrees from George Mason University and her doctorate from Virginia Tech. She has a passion to help animals, and says she knew from a very early age that she wanted to become a vet.

Dr. Chau has had many pets in her lifetime, from dogs to cats, fish to birds, and even an iguana she raised to become 4-​feet long. She was chosen for an externship at an avian research center in Wisconsin, and later, regularly substituted at an avian specialist clinic in Northern Virginia after graduation. While working as a veterinarian consultant at almost 2 dozen vet clinics and hospitals in VA, MD and DC, Dr. Chau pursued even more advanced skills after receiving her doctorate, and became certified in Acupuncture as well as Rehabilitation Therapy. She also received specialized training in heart echocardiograms by ultrasound, as well as endoscopy.

I have a 2 year old cat that came to us heavily matted and we were informed that the cat would need to be sedated in order to remove the mats. I decided to give Family Vet of Stone Ridge a try for this process. Dr. Chau examined our cat and speedily shaved out the mats with some help from her assistants. No sedation necessary and our cat was not traumatized at all. Such a relief. Highly recommend these folks!

How good is Dr. Chau? I drive 30 minutes to see her rather than going to the vet less than a mile from my house. Why? Because Dr. Chau saved my dog’s life when other vets couldn’t. My dog was incredibly sick and had been in the hospital, with another vet, for four days. I honestly didn’t think she would make it. I finally pulled her out of the hospital and brought her to Dr. Chau. After just four hours on new meds, my dog was eating again and improving significantly. I was able to bring her home that night. My mom had a similar experience. Numerous vets and specialists couldn’t cure her dogs swollen hocks and lameness, but Dr. Chau did with the right medicine and food. That’s another thing I love about Dr. Chau. Her knowledge extends well beyond traditional veterinary medicine. She’ll give you advice on which food is best for your dog’s medical condition, and help you find cheaper options. She takes time to answer all your questions, and also gave me advice for curing a bad habit of my dog’s. Whether your dog needs a checkup or you’re managing a chronic condition, I highly recommend Dr. Chau!

Cho Cho loves Dr. Chau.
I was referred to the Family Veterinary Hospital of Stone Ridge by Dr. Olson (Greenbriar Animal Hospital). Cho Cho got his neutering procedure done here. Everything went smoothly. Dr. Chau has also been able to help Cho Cho greatly with his allergy issues. The staff are all friendly and welcoming. Dr. Chau is so sweet, patient, knowledgeable, gentle, and professional. The office is very clean and organized. Dr. Chau and her staff get us in and out in no time. She is very thorough and makes sure all of your questions and concerns are addressed.
I am so grateful to Dr. Olson for introducing us to Dr. Chau. These two wonderful people have helped Cho Cho greatly through some of our most difficult times. It’s definitely been a journey trying to figure out Cho’s allergy issues, but it looks like we’ve got it under control.
I highly recommend this Veterinary Hospital!

I have used Family Veterinary Hospital in the past year since my dog is current on her medical vaccines. The staff always provide a warm reception and the waiting room is clean, orderly and not smelly! Dr. C is timely and efficient. Her medical care is always on-​point. I find the treatment for my miniature schnauzer to be very affordable. The location is great and appointments are made convenient for those of us with hectic schedules. I highly recommend Family Veterinary Hospital to anyone looking for a great place to take your pet.

We were referred to Family Vet by a neighbor who, like us, was having a stubborn ear problem with their dog that no other vet could seem to get under control. Based on their results and feedback we scheduled an appointment with Dr. Myers.
All I can say is WOW! From the very beginning of the appointment the level of attention provided to us and our pooch was amazing, never before have we had a vet spend so much time with us at a personal level. She took in all of our information, explained her theories and provided us with multiple options to consider, each with thorough explanations.
After the exam and treatment I can say that the change on our pooch was almost immediate. No more scratching at her ears, being sensitive if we touched them, etc. We also got out of there paying half the price for the amount of services compared to what we would have paid at our normal vet.
We are glad to have such a close vet with fantastic doctors, staff and overall service and look forward to bringing our other, and future, dogs to Family Vet!

I stopped here for an emergency with a sick puppy. Even though I was a new patient, they saw me immediately and took good care of my puppy, Luna.
They ran some tests and it turned out to be nothing serious. But I was losing my mind with anxiety and Dr. Meyers and the whole staff were very comforting. I would happily recommend this practice.

Dr. Chau, Dr. Myers, and the entire staff are great! I’ve been taking my dog and two cats to see them for about three years and I always have a good experience. I trust both doctors’ treatment plans and opinions. It’s easy to get an appointment, the office is very clean, and there isn’t a long wait time when you arrive. I feel like they genuinely care about my pets.

After trying 5 – 6 Veterinary Offices in the area, we have finally found a great one! We switched to Family Vet over a year ago and couldn’t be happier! Dr. Chau is very patient, very thorough, compassionate, and caring. Her staff is just as wonderful! I also feel like we are getting an honest opinion. Dr. Chau is very conscienctious about costs as well. Our dog is in the best hands with Family Vet!

Dr. Chau is AMAZING!!! I have a pomeranian who had gotten teeth pulled at a different location, and after the surgery he couldn’t walk without falling or even stand long enough to use the bathroom, he also wouldn’t eat unless he was hand fed… The vet that pulled my dogs teeth told us he probably wouldn’t live much longer. We decided to take our dog here for a second opinion, and Dr. Chau is a miracle worker!!! She gave my dog different types of medicine, and exercise, and now he’s 100% better! He has his Appetite back and is RUNNING around the house! I would strongly recommend this place!!!

I can never, EVER say enough good things about Family Vet. We switched to them after moving a little further from Stream Valley than planned, and with a car sick cat it just wasn’t an option to go all the way to SV.
One of my kitties, Hope, was diagnosed early with both forms of Corona, which usually mutates and becomes FIP. Unfortunately, after a few bouts of sickness I sought out a second opinion at Family and they were wonderful — they recommended an exploratory surgery to figure out exactly what was going on. While it was VERY expensive, it was worth it, as we then knew she was FIP positive and we were able to prepare for the inevitable. Dr Chau went WAY out of her way for us, even staying late for me to come get some meds on a very short notice. Through the whole thing the entire team was amazing — even up until the last days when we had to make the horrible decision to send our little Hope to Heaven.
Once again, the Family staff were on their game. I found a dog struggling in my frozen pond — he had fallen through the ice. By the time I found him he had been there at least an hour. I got him out but couldn’t get him warm. I called Family and they told me to take him in. They were there waiting for me when I got there and took him right back (I found out later they warned the people in the lobby that there was an emergency and might have a delay). They were awesome through the whole thing and I’m again so impressed.
Expensive — yes. Worth it — ABSOLUTELY!

I was extremely happy with my vet, but when my dog was injured and my vet didn’t have any openings, a friend told me about Dr. Chau. After my first visit, I was VERY impressed, and after a few follow up visits, including laser therapy, I have now switched over to Dr. Chau for good. She is absolutely wonderful. She is extremely professional and personable at the same time. She has a wealth of knowledge and shares it all. She goes the extra mile, and then some. She remembered everything about my dog, and I feel extremely confident putting Dr. Chau in charge of my best friend’s health!

I first found out about FVH of SR a few years ago when I was looking for a vet near my home that practiced acupuncture. My mini dachshund, Harley had been paralyzed due to Intervertebral Disk Disease and acupuncture seemed to help with his muscle spasms. Dr. Chau and her staff were wonderful with his treatment and care over the years. Even though Harley has since passed and we no longer need the acupuncture treatments, we wouldn’t take our current dachshunds anywhere else for their veterinary needs. Everyone is so helpful and Dr. Chau is both professional and caring. Don’t expect FVH of SR to be the least expensive vet option out there but they are also not overpriced (in my opinion). You get what you pay for and honestly the good quality, professional care for my «kids» is (almost) priceless!

Bought my dog from a puppy place. I had to comply to a contract of puppy care within 14 days of buying the dog for them to guarentee the puppy health for the first year. I showed Rebecca my contract and she fixed me up to comply. She even wrote down the dates and gave me estimates on how much my next few visits would cost so I would not have any surprises. I truely appreciate the time she had taken to do this. All is good. Puppy is happy and healthy.

We can’t say enough good things about Dr. Chau. It is a 30 minute drive for us and well worth it — I took my very sick 11 year old Bichon Frise to her this summer, after our regular vet was not able to figure out what was wrong with her, and a neighbor recommended her prior to us taking her to a neurologist. We got in the day we called; Dr. Chau kept assessing, reassessing and changing the treatment plan until we were on a track to recovery, respecting my wishes not to put my dog through painful and expensive tests that it was not sure would make a difference, and she slowly but surely recovered completely. She is a talented, patient and persistent diagnostician, and I know that she saved my dog’s life. We are so grateful, and she’s become our new vet. The office staff is friendly and professional — we are so happy to have found them!

They are very friendly here to both us humans and our cats. They provided a much more comprehensive analysis of our cats’ health issues than our previous vet and prescribed a great new food. The results are fantastic and the cats are now racing around the house like happy kittens and jumping up on the kitchen counter like they used to do.
I’m not really sure how their prices compare to other local vets, but they are close enough to tolerate all the yelling during the short car ride over there. (The cats yell, not the humans.)
