History

Established in 1965.

The Russell School of Ballet (RSB) was founded in 1965 by Thomas and Ilona Russell in Falls Church, VA. We are currently entering our 50^th year. RSB has been in its current location for 20+ years. The Fairfax Ballet Company is in residence at RSB. They have performed with local orchestras, at Wolf Trap and the Virginia Dance Coalition Gala. Alumni have gone on to dance with New York City Ballet, Joffrey Ballet, Nashville Ballet, Ballet Austin and Monte Carlo Ballet. Students have studied dance at George Mason University, Florida State University, Butler University, Point Park University, and North Carolina School for the Arts and others. Senior and Junior Company dancers have excelled at professional-​level summer intensive courses, often dancing on scholarship with the School of American Ballet, American Ballet Theatre, San Francisco Ballet, Alvin Ailey, Boston Ballet, Miami City Ballet and Virginia School of the Arts. RSB continues to offer high-​quality classical ballet instruction.
