What do you do in March at UnC? My answer would be you run! Due to the knee injuries, I have to run on the treadmills to prevent further injuries. Although most trainees are students like me, there are membership available for people who are not studying or working here. So come and enjoy with me!

Probably the worst gym I have ever been too for the amount of funding they acquire. The staff here is unprofessional and act like children instead of college age or above workers. They aren’t very helpful either. There has been a piece of equipment broken for all 4 years I’ve been here and I’ve reported it many times. You are only guaranteed maybe ¼ machines work. The internet drops all the time. I would not go to UNC for this gym and I wouldn’t go here if I didn’t have to pay for it as part of my tuition.

Student Rec is a decent gym. Is it perfect? No. It’s not a perfect gym. But it doesn’t try to gouge me and rope me into contracts, so I appreciate that greatly.
There are two levels: the downstairs is primarily weights and machines, with some cardio options. The upstairs is primarily workrooms for aerobics, along with cardio. It’s tough to find a place to work out during the year, though it is very nice in the summer/​off periods, when no one is around.
It’s a little tough to pick up UNC wireless in there, so that’s problematic, but not terrible.

The SRC is a fully capable gym for students, its main selling points being its exclusivity to UNC-​affiliated folk and its central location.
In the SRC proper you’ll find all the necessary weight and cardio equipment, even if there’s not much to go around considering the massive population that depends on it. Really try to avoid peak times, when overcrowding can become a real problem. On the other hand, those peak times afford some of the best eye candy on a campus known for its eye candy, so take a few minutes to assess your priorities.
The real attraction for those in the know is actually attached to the SRC in the form of Fetzer and (connected by breezeway) Woolen Gyms. These are the places where you can find sports arenas of every kind, from basketball courts and swimming pools to badmitton and racquetball courts. In the basement of Fetzer there are extensive locker rooms as well as a checkout desk where anyone with a One Card can check out equipment for a multitude of sports.

Ah, memories of sky-​blue mini shorts emblazoned with UNC on the butts are all flooding back to me as I write this. I always thought UNC’s rec center was nice until I heard from friends in Texas, New York, and elsewhere who boasted hot-​tubs and smoothie shops in their school gyms. So it’s not flashy, exactly. It’s still a great place to work out. You’ve got two stories — cardio equipment and weights on the lower level and more cardio equipment plus two fitness studios on the second floor. The number and diversity of classes offered was exceptional. I mostly got my fill on yoga, kickboxing, hip-​hop, and boot camp. They do cap these classes, so be sure to come early for the sign-​up sheet. They actually have sign-​up sheets for cardio stuff too (30-​minute increments). This was a big problem if you tried to come to the gym during peak hours (lunch or 5−7pm). You want to hop up on a bike, but the sign-​up sheet has been accounted for for 3 solid hours! The equipment at least is new and maintained very well. There’s are also pool privileges (though the pool is in a separate building from the SRC). Fetzer Gym and the Ram’s Head center connect and offer the basketball and racketball courts, wall-​climbing, etc.
You do have to be a student, faculty, or campus employee to join; but then the annual fee is a bargain and can even be deducted pre-​tax from payroll.
