Aesthetically Speaking

Really love this place. The service is amazing and I feel really comfortable getting services done here.

I went to Aesthetically Speaking (A.S.) about a month ago with a Groupon and felt that my experience just wasn’t that great. There’s only street parking, but that doesn’t really count against this place since everybody around Charleston knows that downtown Charleston is only street parking at the meters or paying to park in a garage. It’s a bit hard to find though. You have to look for stairs going up, and then it’s the first door to the left (if I remember correctly). Like another Unilocal post, I was also kept waiting at the door of A.S. because it was locked, and the owner (it’s just one woman running the whole thing) wasn’t there yet. I was about 15 minutes early… so take that as you will. I kind of expect that an esthetician be present 30 minutes before a client’s appointment, but that’s just me.
This was my second sugaring experience, and even though my first experience (at a place in West Ashley) didn’t have any organic lollipops or a fancy reception area (like some other waxing salons), I felt like my first experience was a bit better and in the same price range of the Groupon price.
Let’s break it down: I felt like A.S. didn’t really get everything down there. I had a full brazilian, and it wasn’t done as well as my first time. I get that some hairs will just be too «baby» to pull, but she left more than what I’d expect. I also felt like even though I was sweating from the pain of the experience, she didn’t keep powdering me up to make it easier for the sugar to hold the hairs, making me feel as if she had to repeat pulling in certain spots unnecessarily, which increased my pain and perpetuated the cycle.
I probably won’t be going back, and I don’t think I’d recommend this place to anybody.

I called to make an appointment at Aesthetically Speaking— it took over 2 days and 2 voicemail messages for her to return my call. Once she did, we made an appointment on Saturday, March 28– Cooper River Bridge Run Weekend. I had mentioned this to her and she said that is fine. She also took my groupon code over the phone. I went through the craziness of downtown for my appointment and noticed that the door was locked. I called and left a message that I was there and to call me as I would be roaming around King Street. An hour later– and no call return. I check on my groupon status and it appears that she had redeemed the groupon— AND no returned call from my 2 additional voicemail messages that I left as I waited outside her building. I have emailed groupon to notify them of this. I have heard other people having the same experience. DO NOT go here unless you want your groupon stolen and to show up to an appointment that the owner will not be in attendance. Needless to say, I will return to my old spa as I know they do great work. I have NEVER experienced anything like this— EVER!!!

This place made me feel really comfortable and the space was beautifully decorated. She did an amazing job with the sugaring, was extremely professional and friendly, and was very knowledgable about it. I will definitely be going back!

I had a sugaring\brazilian done here and she did an amazing job. She was veerry thorough even getting rid of some ingrown hairs I had. She also gave me pointers about preventing ingrown hairs in the future. She was a sweetheart during the entire process and even told me of some upcoming weekend events. Even better the sugaring waa only 36 $ and she even gave me a deal for my next visit. I went to another sugaring studio for my. first sugar but I will
returning there! I highly recommend Aesthetically Speaking.
