History

Established in 2013.

Blue Heron Acupuncture and Apothecary is staffed by licensed acupuncturists who completed four-year Master’s Degree programs that included 2-year, 800-hour clinical internships. After studying Classical Chinese Medicine, which utilizes a wider variety of meridian systems and theory than Traditional Chinese Medicine, we are excited to share this ancient healing system with the Lowcountry. We are nationally certified in acupuncture and Chinese herbal medicine and licensed to practice in South Carolina.

Lauren B. and Lisa A.

Business Owner

Lauren Becker and Lisa Abernathy received their Master’s Degrees in Chinese Medicine from Daoist Traditions College of Chinese Medical Arts in Asheville, NC.

Components of their education included acupuncture, herbal medicine, nutrition, food therapy, tui na massage, Qi Gong, and Western medicine. In their practice, Lisa and Lauren integrate knowledge of Chinese and Western medicine and make referrals to other practitioners for specialized or additional care, as needed.

Both Lisa and Lauren have studied under Jeffrey Yuen, an 88th generation Daoist priest and a leader in bringing Classical Chinese Medicine to the West. In their practices, they utilize Traditional Chinese Medicine, the Five Meridian System (Primary, Luo, Eight Extraordinary, Sinew and Divergent meridians), Five Element acupuncture, and the NADA addictions protocol. These methods provide an array of tools with which they can best meet patients’ needs.
