Christophe Artisan Chocolatier-Patissier

Family was staying right next door. It’s not Starbucks so don’t ask for a caramel mochi-​whatever. They have fabulous pastries and French press coffee and hot/​cocoa. Friendly staff were sensitive to my nut allergy even though lots of stuff has nuts so if you’re Über allergic might want to pass. Got two French press coffees and two hot chocolates. Plus assorted sweet treats. All delight.

My boyfriend and I stumbled upon this bakery by accident and we are super glad we did. We were looking for macaroons (which they do not sell back at home) and that’s exactly what we found. They have so many flavors to choose from and they’re each so delicious. The bakery itself is really cute and they offer other deserts which we will have to try when we visit Charleston again!

Stopped here on the Chow Down Charleston food tour. This was the last stop and perfect way to end an amazing afternoon. We were seated in the back porch area. The murals in the back area were beautiful and the dessert was delicious. We had the dark chocolate hot cocoa. It was the best we had ever had with small chocolate shaving in the bottom of the cup. We then had a lemon macaroon and lemon truffle. I wouldn’t normally choose lemon but this was a great pairing and aesthetically pleasing. I could’t help myself and also bought the lavender truffle, white raspberry truffle, pistachio macaroon, custard cake and a bag of the hot chocolate. Everything was fantastic! Great spot for an afternoon sweet treat!

Going to Christophe has become a Sunday tradition for my boyfriend and me. We always get one of the quiches and one sweet thing (so many to choose from, but the almost croissant and cherry almond tart are faves), plus coffees or stellas (like a less sweet mocha). We split those and we are so full – and we like to eat! Plus all the «real» food (aka not chocolate) is really reasonably priced. We never spend more than $ 20. The chocolate is also amazing but more of an investment. Nice quiet upstairs to enjoy as well.

This place used to be the bomb! Whenever we came to Charleston, this was a must stop. This week we stopped in and ordered a couple cookies and chocolates. The chocolates were dry and the cookies tasteless. What a huge disappointment! Please dust off the old recipes; and make this place delicious again!

Christophe is an amazing Chocolatier-​Patissier! We were visiting as tourists and our hotel balcony overlooked this quaint little shop. The French flag caught my attention and it didn’t take long before my husband and I were there to try a coffee and chocolate mousse. The following day, we joined a food tour whose last stop was at Christophe’s. What a coincidence. This time I went for a hot chocolate whose chocolate powder is made in house from chocolate ground by hand, I was told. I was also impressed that Christophe does beer & chocolate pairings and hosts several cooking events and opportunities. We are already planning to visit when we are in Charleston next. The upstairs sitting area is a great place to kill some time with a good book!

This is an adorable little place and I need to go back and check it out again. I didn’t love the little thing that we got and shared (I can’t remember what it was now either… sorry), but I have a feeling that was way more about preference than anything else. The truffles and such looked amazing.
This is definitely a place worth stopping in. You’ll feel like you’re in a little shop in Paris. Really, so cute. The staff was also kind and helpful!

after having this amazing French hot chocolate in Paris years ago, I must try any French style or even Italian style, European, whatever hot cocoa lol. so finding this place on Unilocal we had to come here. plus my sister in law babysitting our blind chihuahua at home I though she deserved some macaroons. the drinking chocolate was amazing, warm or cool, delicious either way. cute little shop too.

I love this little chocolate shop! The chocolates are yummy, the croissants are delicious and their cookies are tasty. I always get their coffee, there’s nothing like dark french pressed coffee. My husband loves their hot chocolate because they make it from real chocolate.
The cakes and macaroons are ok. I’ve had better. The textures of the cakes that I’ve had here is too thick and heavy. They tend to be chewy. Same goes for the macaroons here. You really have to bite hard on the macaroon.
I would recommend stopping by here, it’s definitely worth a visit. There is lots to choose from besides chocolate. They also have baguette sandwiches and other baked good.
There is a small patio in back and an upstairs for seating.
There is off street parking but it’s hard to find because it’s by King Street.

Thanks again for a wonderful breakfast of French press coffee and an amazing torte fit for a king. Located in the side street off King Street next to the Renaissance Hotel, this place is available to the masses and well worth finding.

Two words: dessert heaven. They offer a wide variety of made-​in-​house desserts ranging from hand-​painted chocolates to macarons to mini-​cakes, and the presentation of all the desserts makes it very tempting to take it all. I had the opera and the almond cake. Both were of very good quality and pair well with a cup of coffee. I will have to stop by here again next time I’m in town for more desserts! :-)

We stopped here for dessert after brunch and enjoyed the cuteness of the shop. There is a small selection of items, most of which seemed to be coffee flavored (which isn’t really my fave). We ended up getting the strawberry tart, the chocolate/​coffee éclair, and some truffles (at slightly under 1.99 per piece (ouch)). There is a very small upstairs sitting area, but since no one was there when we were we had it to ourselves. If the shop was ever packed full, I could see space and the ability to get up/​down stairs being an issue.

Phenomenal cold «drinking chocolate». All of their pastries looked fantastic! There is a wide range of options to eat and everything looks appetizing and incredibly professional yet home made. There’s seating up stairs as even a nice balcony to sit on. The owner, Christophe, is usually working or nearby!

Wow, what a find. Fab coffee & even better freshly made French pastries. The blue cheese dark chocolate was amazing. I will definitely be back here. A great end to a great day.

The coffee is the best I’ve had whilst here in Charleston. The cold-​brewed, French Press coffee had an amazing fresh taste without the acidic tones commonly found in hot-​brewed coffee.
If you’re looking for an ice cold refreshing drink on a hot summer day or just looking for a pick-​me-​up, you should definitely stop by and grab their iced coffee.

Good stuff, a little pricy, but fresh. Small place, with a heart. They work the street on 2^nd Sunday also. My wife is French, so she love it. We can’t walk by without stopping. Go there and see what fresh French pastries are all about.

Everything I ate was very delicious. It was pricey but, everything was made well and with allot of care.
Hot chocolate (a.k.a drinking chocolate) $ 3.50 with a chocolate covered marshmallow inside $ 2– Very chocolaty and not too sweet.
Linzer cookie $ 2.50– Filled with rasberry jam, every bite crumbled in your mouth and was so good.
White chocolate macadamima cookie $ 3.50– soft, chewy, and well made.
I really enjoyed the treats in this place. However, I did not care for the pushy, impatient, demeanor of the staff. I came in with my husband and brother-​in-​law, and it seemed as if with each minute we spent browsing in the store the more impatient the staff became. Like we weren’t going to purchase anything. I admired the chocolates and asked about the flavors and the price, and was abruptly answered with «they are all listed on the board.» another minute goes by of us looking at all the options and «can we get anything started for you» is asked by someone else. Every time I ordered something there was a cold follow up question of: «What else?»
I just didn’t feel very welcomed or comfortable. We were greeted with a fake, forced hello and goodbye. As if this cold greeting would be sufficient enough for us to leave. If they had more patience and took the time to talk to me about their desserts, or what they had to offer I probably would have left with allot more things. All four staff seemed very preoccupied with other work to even bother with any of my questions, even though no one else was in the store. This rudeness continued all the way down to the receipt, (which was not offered). I had to ask if it could be sent to my email, then she spins the pad around and says «here you can just type it in yourself» and walks away.
Perhaps if I came another day, and another time the service might have been better. I really don’t understand why they were so rude to us, we came at 645pm on a Saturday when the hours are open until 9pm. Sadly, I wish I could give this more stars. I can easily find desserts elsewhere for a better experience. Unfortunately, the service left a bad taste in my mouth and i’m not sure if i’ll come back.
Three stars because the food was very very good, but if the staff was a bit more genuine and attentive I would have ranked them much higher, and would have been a frequent customer.

Ordered a cake from this bakery based on reviews. Corresponded with the owners wife online, and she was very helpful. The cost of the cake, for 6 people, was around $ 30. They even delivered to the hotel where we were hosting the event. Overall, my experience was great.
However, the cake was just average. I got an opera cake, and it was beautifully decorated, but inside the cake portion was very dry and the cream didn’t taste like coffee. It was a bit of a let-​down.
Hopefully next time I’m in town I can try some of their pastries and chocolates…
