Jack, the owner/​tour guide is an older gentleman, I believe he said he was 72. He loves what he does and is a true expert. We did get a groupon for the tour so it was half price. There was only us and one other couple on the tour this time. The other couple was pretty much a dud, but we still enjoyed the tour. Jack makes it fun and is very knowledgeable. He shares civil war era pictures so you can see the then and now. My only warning would be to those who may be hard of hearing. Jack isn’t particularly loud so anyone with hearing issues would have a problem but for the average person, he is just fine. Check out his website lots for more info.

I had a LivingSocial/​Groupon for this, so we ended up getting a 2for1 deal but was so impressed we tipped in addition after the tour. I want to say our tour guide was named Jeff? Something like that. It was a different take than the tour on Fort Sumter (even about the same events) — I guess Southern perspective vs. federal? I loved the rephotography tour and it was a great tour to see all of the city. The stinky horse tours trot by you while you walk :)

I met «Jeff» my guide at the Mill’s House hotel at 9am in the morning. He had photos taken of Charleston during the war. We went to the same locations where these photos were taken and compared them to what it looks like today. Jeff was very informative and told many stories of citizens of Charleston during the war. If you’re interested in the Civil War, then you should definetly take this tour. The tour was actually pretty inexpensive.

This was a wonderful tour lead by a very enthusiastic guide!
We met at the Mill’s House on Meeting Street and walked around visiting many of the local buildings around the area. The guide was very knowledgeable and was able to give accounts of what was happening at the time.
He had a book with some great old photographs of the same locations were were visiting. This added some great depth to the stories and how Charleston was at the time.
Would highly recommend.
