Olde Towne Carriage

I never got the chance to review this awesome establishment when I was in SC and I finally have the change to.
It was a great time and I really enjoyed it, it was amazing to see different parts of Charleston. It was a bit cool that day and I rarely wear anything but a shirt, but wish I would have had something a bit warmer that day since it was a bit chillier than expected, but nonetheless, I enjoyed every minute of it and would definitely do this again.
Charleston is a quaint town rich in history as well as some ghost tales. The hour went by pretty quickly and got to see more of the town than we could by walking.

Was on an amazing azamara cruise that stopped in charleston for 3 days. Had researched a few different tours and decided to check out this 1 hour tour on our last day in port. Very glad we did. Tour guide assured us how the horses are never overworked and how they won’t go out when the weather gets too hot. Lucky for us that it was a bit cool in the 50’s. As we had just come from the 80’s in Florida it was perfect weather for cruising in a horse drawn carriage.

Groupon deal without a hitch. We had a ride with Big John and a tour guide who used to be a school principal. I thought I got away from them for the week but I didn’t. He had a pretty good knowledge of the history or the different buildings and area which I really enjoyed. He seemed to enjoy his job as it was his 2^nd career after retirement. We received the Battery and Rainbow Row route. The routes are done by lottery so a second time could place you on the same route.
It took a little over an hour which seemed to get pretty long with our 1 year old. Either ours was acting up or the couple in front of us’s one year old was making noise for the last 30 minutes. My recommendation is probably not to take your one year old. I was distracted the last 20 minutes trying to entertain her and shush her. My only complaint was they told us they had blankets and would offer us some before we left but then they never did. I guess I should have spoken up. By the way taking a carriage ride in 40 degree weather is also not recommended.

Let me preface by saying that carriage tours are not my thing, generally, and that any rating above «EEK» is saying something. However, the things that we guys do to make our sweethearts happy…
That being said, this wasn’t a bad way to kill an hour in the heat of the day. We had no problem whatsoever using our Groupon and making a reservation. Our guide was entertaining and humorous, while still being fairly informative about the local culture and history.
So, guys, there are worse ways to spend 60 minutes, and if it wins you points with your girl, go ride behind a horse for a while with Olde Towne Carriage.

Without having a reference to the other carriage companies since this is the only one we went to (twice), I will still recommend them to friends. The day time ride was great. Very enjoyable! We then rode later in the night for the ghost tour and it was «okay». Not thrilled, but again, just riding on the carriage was enjoyable.
