Specialties

We’re a locally owner Mom and Pop coffee shop. We specialize in anything coffee and espresso. We can customize any drink about any way and have the largest selection of flavors in town. We have a modest but extremely popular lunch and breakfast menu, including bagels and bakery items, breakfast sandwiches (served all day), tuna and chicken salad sandwiches, quiches, salads and home-​made vegetarian soups. Almost everything is made in-​house from scratch. Nice atmosphere. And yes we have wifi.

History

Established in 2008.

Carmen and Walter started the business from scratch after retiring and moving to Charleston from the West Coast. We had always wanted to own a small business and it was the right time for us– If we had started second careers, we knew it would never happen. It was now or never so we made the leap of faith, the way true entrepreneurs do.

The concept is inspired by the pubs and coffee shops we visited while living in Europe. We wanted to catch the same feel– not just a place to eat and drink, but a comfortable, relaxing place where people felt free to strike up conversations with strangers with no strings attached.

Nice local coffee house with some neat ideas. They brew a local Charleston roast. I had a quad iced espresso. What I loved was that it was served over crushed ice!!! Great idea and didn’t seem to water down the espresso too much. I also liked the liquid Splenda sweetener concoction they had at the fixing bar. The place smelled great and looked like they make fresh baked goods. The espresso had a slight bitter undertone but was pretty smooth. I tried it plain to get a feel and then added my usual cinnamon and also added this time a bit of cream and 2 pumps of the Splenda syrup. Half way through I found the Splenda to have settled to the bottom and become a bit overpowering but that was my bad. Nice S-​buck alternative for those of you looking for that!

Went there for the first time and hands down it is MUCH better than the Starbucks near by. Friendly staff and amazingly good latte and muffin! I am definitely making this my morning coffee place.

This place was alright. I came in for a cup of coffee and to sit and talk with some friends. The staff weren’t very friendly, and I didn’t really feel welcomed. I ordered a cappuccino which was served in a big mug. The coffee wasn’t very smooth, it had a burnt, bitter taste, and it didn’t have the right ratio of milk to espresso. My friend had a simple hot chocolate, and he said it was too watery.
Some pros: It is very spacious with lots of tables, chairs, and a couch. The big windows bring in lots of light and they also serve food which I didn’t get to try. I also saw various local art on the walls which was cool.
Our drinks seemed lazily made without much care, and the service felt cold. I don’t know when or if I’ll try this place again, but my first impression wasn’t a very good one.

Need an afternoon pick me up? Sojourn is your place. Very relaxed atmosphere with the friendliest staff you could ever hope to interact with! They have got Southern hospitality down to a science! I had to have a Chocolate chip cookie, because it just came out of the oven, and while I wish their iced coffee was stronger, the overall experience was a solid one!

This locally owned coffee shop is a relaxing place to go to have your favorite coffee or tea and a sandwich or pastry. The food is homemade and not frozen and shipped in like other popular places. They also have free Wifi. The owners are always nice. Their staff also will come to your table to clear any dishes and ask how everything is.

If you visit, don’t expect to run in and run out. Sojourn Coffee gives off a nice family feel and you will sometimes see the owners/​staff/​employees sitting down to chat with some of the customers to see how their day is going.
If you want a nice place to relax and maybe get some school work done, this could be your spot.

I discovered this great place today. So much better than Starbucks, DD, etc. I would much rather spend my dollars at a local establishment. Anyway, service is friendly, atmosphere is clean and relaxing, really quite comfortable. My coffee was delicious. They serve pastries and sandwiches and although I didn’t eat, it must be good as I overheard several other patrons raving. Great place to visit and relax. I will definitely be back… soon!

This is my new caffeine stop on the way to work. It’s perfect and I like that it’s local. The location is not glamorous or trendy, and I love this. It’s coffee, do we need everything to be so hip, current and central? No please.
The people here are so sweet and welcoming, and there are plenty of tables; room to stay a while if you so desire. I’m typically a black coffee kinda gal, but on occasion I’ll splurge on a café au lait with soy milk. Both of these, as well as the friendly service will keep me coming back for more. And just a quick note, I have been feeling since I’ve moved here that coffee shops in Charleston are so few and far between — I came from Austin, where coffee shops are literally on top of each other — so I just appreciate that Sojourn exists, really!

This is not your typical coffee shop. It is rough and rugged with strange art work and photography and décor that just gives you that feel of the 60’s. This coffee shop is very clean, very modernized and extremely comfortable and friendly. Whether you want a table or a leather seat with windows all around giving a fresh and well lit area.
This is a great modern coffee shop.
