Established in 1991.

Stella Nova’s Retail Store and Make-​Up Studio at 292 King Street is where it all began and is an absolute must-​stop for all your bath, beauty, hair, perfume and make-​up needs. With Peter behind the scenes and Ginger «behind the chair» in 1991, the 1,000 square foot salon grew to be a 3,000 square foot Salon and Retail Store in 2008 with multiple locations in Mt. Pleasant, Summerville, and West Ashley, and two separate locations downtown for the Spa and Salon.

This place was convenient and had a lot of fun things to purchase, I really enjoyed my style — blow out. I think I just have too much hair that makes doing my hair… exhausting. I think this place is great for style or make up, and it’s location was PERFECT. It was a little uninviting, which I found weird for Charleston because EVERYONE there seems to be so nice. Southern charm!!! But when I walked in, nobody greeted me, couldn’t quite figure out even where I was suppose to be, and they told me to check in, but nobody was around for me to check in with? I suppose if this is a place that you have to really fall in love with your hairdresser, I just don’t think it would be a place that I would go back to, even if I lived there.
The service was… ok, not great — rather expensive considering I really wasn’t even happy. My normal blow out is $ 35, and it’s usually done in 45 min and is GREAT, this took over an hour — $ 60 and was just… ok.
But, it served its purpose for my trip and is not terribly awful.

My friend and I came in for a blow out and were late but they totally accommodated us! Colleen was my stylist and she was great! She was so friendly and did a great job! They couldn’t have been nicer! I will definitely be coming back when I am in town again.

The staff at Stella nova was exceptional. I dealt with Anna H, who was so sweet and accommodating to the several changes I made to my day of hair/​make up plans. When we got there, Ginger did an amazing job setting my hair and the make up artists who did my girls made them look gorgeous! I was nervous sitting down to get my face done, because I have never really been happy with how someone does my make up. But my artist was incredible. When I showed her a picture of what I wanted (soft romantic pink palette… I am fair skinned with dark auburn/​brown hair) she said «don’t worry girl, what you want is what I specialize in.» She also didn’t disappoint, I felt gorgeous leaving the salon. She did exactly what I wanted and even gave me some quick tips on how to touch up throughout the day. Could not have been happier with the services we received! Thank you ladies!!!

My friend and I stopped in looking for a product that was no longer available. Merit took charge and suggested one great product after another. The result? We spent over $ 100 but saved a bundle and we’re thrilled with our purchases. Merit is a very knowledgeable and gracious salesperson. She took us under her wing and was not pushy at all. I come to Charleston fairly often and I love to come into the Stella Nova shop downtown and browse the cosmetics. This time, I got my hair cut in the salon for the first time — and it was great! Colleen gave me a wonderful short haircut. She listened to what I wanted and knew how to get the perfect effect. People often think that short haircuts must be easy to get and style, but believe me, they’re not! She was great and I may have to drive up to Charleston every six weeks now.

I have to preface this review with a confession: I’m a nail polish collector. It’s my hobby. Kind of strange to most people, but unlike ceramic cats or baseball cards I use my collection a couple times a week.
Anyway, I found Stella Nova online a while ago, noticed they carry one of my favorite brands of nail polish, and bookmarked them.
Recently I realized the brand had discontinued a polish I did not own, but Stella Nova still had it in stock. So I placed my order Tuesday and it got here Friday.
The good: Quick shipping. I am only one state away, but still not bad. My bottle was well packaged, and included a lovely handwritten note and a very large shampoo sample.
The bad: Shipping was a very high $ 10. I paid it because it’s the only place I could find this particular polish in stock, but I shop online all the time– for everything– and that is unusually high especially for a cosmetics purchase. Even at this rate, I got no tracking number and no indication that my order had shipped. Finally, and the most upsetting, is that the polish is used. There is polish on both the handle and the bottle, as well as inside the lid. The label is missing off both the box and the bottle, and the box is dirty and in rather poor condition. I paid for a new item and got a used and unlabeled item. Not cool.
So, bottom line. I’m glad I was able to get my hands on this item but shop at your own risk.

I order products from this store over the phone. The product selection is the very best, the service is consistently excellent and they deliver immediately. Free samples included in each shipment. If you ask, they will send you samples of products you want to try as well. Finally, they answer the phone «Hello, it’s a beautiful day» in a southern accent. Seriously, what is not to love?

Horrible stylist who was more interested in chatting up every employee in the place than doing her job.
You know those people who when driving a car are always looking over at you while they talk? And you want to scream, drive the damn car or shut up?
That was my stylist, as I watched her cut my hair without looking. And the cost was only $ 100 an hour.

For everyone who knows what Sephora is and mourns the absence of that place of magical wonders in the Charleston area, Stella Nova fills the void quite nicely. The shop is somewhat small but chock full of most of the brands you covet… Fresh, Nars, Blax hair ties (the best!), Aesop, Terax, Bumble & Bumble, Bliss, Lola, Tweezerman. Now if only they carried Stila, Delux and Tarte, I’d be in beauty heaven.
