Uhrick’s Lincoln Log Motel & Campground

It was in our road trip credo to try and ‘stay in a log cabin’. As we were passing the Charlevoix city limits, our hopes were answered. There was it was in all of it’s Americana glory: Uhrick’s Lincoln Log Motel & Campground.
A circle of little red log cabins. We went up to the office and talked to Mr. Uhrick (I presume?) and he said he had one more cabin left. Perfect. We took a look at it and it had all the charm we were looking for. He said he had bought from the original owners 48 years ago. He also was super friendly, and didn’t mind that we were interrupting him from his Lifetime Original Movie that was on in the background. We stayed in cabin 18.
Inside was a quaint little cabin. The sheets smelled very clean, and the simplicity of the wooden frame was exactly what we needed. The shower was warm, the beds were comfy and we watched some old Jimmy Stewart movie on the little tv.
I mean, what more do expect out of your log cabin? If you want something fancy you can go to the HoJo, or Holiday Inn, but this was a great find as far as I’m concerned and for $ 60 dollars, pretty hard to beat in terms of value. I think everyone should try this little place out!

Without a lot of cash in my pocket and a late decision to go to Charlevoix, there weren’t many options available for a place to stay. (Tip: Book early for Venetian Fest!)
An extensive search of lodging in the area alerted me to this little place — a collection of cabins built sometime around the 50s mixed in with some space for RVs and tents. And by mixed in, I mean that the tents were in the middle of the grassy space with cabins to the right and RVs to the left. Not a chance I would ever camp there unless it was an extenuating circumstance (Fisherman’s Island State Park is but miles away), but for a cheap roof, it wasn’t awful.
The cabins were pretty tight, but they managed to squeeze in two full-​size beds (smaller than I’m used to and not all that comfortable), a bathroom and a mini-​fridge. There were some larger sized cabins in another section of the place, but I didn’t get a peek in any of them.
As for the small, yellow cabins that I stayed in, I’d advise you to go elsewhere if you’re looking to impress. If you are looking for a cheaper, down and dirty place to stay, however, this’ll do.

I was in Charlevoix last summer on short notice and I stayed at this place and while it was cheap lodging I chose not to stay here on my next trip. If you want to stay in a real log cabin then this it the place for you as these cabins were probably built in the 1950’s or earlier. The cabin seemed to be clean enough, but the bed and furnishings were very old and not particularly comfortable. There are several cabins so I might have just gotten a clunker, but my guess is that all are similar.
