Charlotte Elite Event: Piece, Love & Pie at The Pizza Peel

Another awesome event — thank u Nicole. I am already a regular of the Pizza Peel but what a great place for a Unilocal Event. The make your own pizza station was awesome — way to many choices. I was very pleased with my hot, cheesy, and delicious pizza. The brushetta is great as well as the homemade chips.
The live entertainment was excellent and I enjoyed more than a few glasses of Chardonnay:) Special thanks to the wine palette and the lovely artwork created.

A free watch? Yes, of course I’ll take that.
A rocket scientist and the CM to set the time on it? Yes, of course I’ll take that.
Great event put together by Nicole with her doorwoman intern Annie. Thanks to the Pizza Peel for grub and the gracious folk at Empire with the booze. The staff at the Pizza Peel was great, getting into the theme as well! Great live music in the background!
I’m gonna be back to check out the taps at the Peel!

Boom, shalock-​lock, Boom! Yeeepppp! Love me some Unilocal get togethers… love me some pizza… love me some classic rock music… love me some beer… and love me some art! Add all that up and it equals a great Elite event at Pizza Peel! They were awesome hosts, and the pizza’s were huge! I went with pepperoni, mushrooms, banana peppers and tomatoes awesome! Ate it all (sorry wife)! The restaurant has character, a nice open kitchen feel and a great beer list! (PBR!)
Empire provides the Sam Adams & Sierra Nevada, which were great. Didn’t get to taste their wine, but the wife said it was great! Everyone loved the artwork and the singer was great… finishing with Bobby McGee rocked! Great party Nicole!

Music: Lindy Dobbins was pretty good but, I was confused that for a 70’s-themed event with promise of 70’s music, I don’t think I heard one 70’s cover.
For me, despite the crazy amount of toppings and adventurous sauces, Pizza Peel (food and atmosphere) just didn’t do it for me. Luckily! The company I had and Nicole’s AMAZING pants suit made up for all of it.
And then painting. Heck yeah! Art + people + wine = always a good time. I commend Wine Palette’s owner for the fantastic idea!

From an array of fresh ingredients to make the perfect pizza… to the phenominal vocal artist… to the super delicious Pinot Noir… to the fantastic photog… to the Awesome folks at the Wine Palette allowing our creativity to flourish, this event was a great time!
The venue itself is NOT your average pizza place. No flourescent lights or plastic booths — this place has a beautiful light installation and a rustic feel. The service was absolutely beyond friendly– and the food was great! They had these homemade chips that were delicious– probably the best i’ve ever had.
Thanks to the Unilocal crew, Nicole, and all of the vendors for a great Saturday night!

MMmmm, this pizza was SO good. I decided to step out of the box and use pesto as my sauce instead of the traditional tomato and it was delicious. There were so many FRESH toppings to choose from which made it super hard to choose. The pizza came out perfect-​o! Oh, and the Bruschetta was to die for.
While I didn’t try the beer, I did have a few glasses of the Pinot Noir. It was very good — hence, the plural form of glass ;)
The Wine Palette painting station was super fun. Once you start painting you just want to keep going and going. I’m really looking forward to a Unilocal event here in October!
I’d definitely go back to the Pizza Peel. Thanks to all the sponsors and Nicole for setting this up!

We had a great time last night. Nicole, Unilocal,and the Pizza Peel really put on quite the event. I was a little shocked to see that the venue was actually closed for the get together, but the Pizza Peel definitely earned a return visit, so I guess it pays off for them. My pepperoni and mushroom pie was the best I had eaten in a while, and they’ve got quite the impressive beer selection for a place that small.
I didn’t dress up, since I didn’t have anything suitably 70s-​ish, and there was no time to go thrifting, but whatever I might have chosen would’ve been overshadowed by the contest winners, anyways, so perhaps it was for the best. Congrats, guys!
We did discuss how amusing it would be if someone won the contest without intentionally dressing up. However, I know better that to expect such a thing from this crowd.
The only downside was the crazy homeless lady taking pictures. She wandered in off the street and wouldn’t leave me alone!

It was very fitting that Tonya wrote the first review b/​c IMHO she made the best pizza combo at the build-​your-​own-​pie station. What was in it you ask? Well, it contain the following: red sauce, mozzarella, red onion, chopped jalapeño, cilantro, and an olive oil drizzle all of which solved the issues I had with my creation. I think the key ingredients in her pie were the jalapenos and the olive oil. My pie, consisting of red sauce, feta, mozzarella, peperoni, mushrooms, and banana peppers, seemed flat as it lacked the zing of Tonya’s (her combo should be a menu item!). The crust of the pies sampled was consistently light w/​a crisp outside yet airy and bread like inside. It tasted like they use whole wheat flour… which is healthy… right? Now on to the event, which was excellent by the way.
Last night’s event was a laid back gathering with a lot of new faces (sheez, you miss an event or two and everything changes). Pizza Peel was a great location and I was amazed at how accommodating they were for the event. Everyone was very nice and the build-​your-​own-​pie station idea was great (although I was hoping to relive my college days of actually making the pizza.). Live music is always a plus and Lindy Dobbins delivered w/​a great mix of various tunes. Empire Distributors brought some excellent libations that went very well w/​the pizza. Of course everything was captured expertly by Tonya P w/​her ‘take a photo, it lasts longer… snap, snap’ Poprock Photography (btw, I want paid a royalty every time that is used).
Finally, thanks Nicole for another fun event! I hope I can attend another one soon! In the meantime, I have a new spot to stop by and satisfy my za cravings.

Another day, another fantastic event put on by our Charlotte Community Manager, Nicole. I had no idea Unilocal was so big time — closing down the Pizza Peel on a Saturday night for us? Fab-​u-​lous!
With a fun crowd, half dressed in 70’s garb while the other half just cruised in wearing their normal threads (and no judgment either way), how could this event not be a blast? Empire Distributors brought some delicious adult beverages (the Pinot Noir was fantastic), the Pizza Peel had a «make your own pie» bar with over 20 toppings, and Wine Palette had a painting station on hand — all with Tonya from Poprock Photography documenting via photos.
Last but not least, Lindy Dobbins was playing the guitar and belting out tunes to keep the mood upbeat. She really is a very good singer and was taking requests and keeping the crowd’s toes tapping all night long.

Everybody gave this event 5 stars for a reason: because Nicole W. knocked it outta the park planning it!
Pizza. Cool people. Good music. Painting. Costumes. Drinks. Prizes. How could this not be fun?
As my husband rolled up to the restaurant, wearing our big black afro wigs, we were nervous all the other customers would be alarmed. To our surprise the entire place was closed for the Unilocal Event, and even the folks not in costume were welcoming and friendly… we knew it was going to be fun time.
For some reason, in my mind, we were going to be tossing and flipping dough and sliding them into a brick oven… but I suppose that would have been unsanitary, and we would have all made a mess. This was much better!
We all lined up and chose our sauce base (pesto, red sauce, chipotle, BBQ, too many to name!) and toppings galore. The crust was nice and chewy on the inside and crisp on the outside. Overall, a really flavorful, nice pie!

The Wine Pallet painting station was a creative group activity, even for us non-​artsy folks. The owner, Neha is hilarious and very outgoing and tells it like it is.
I agree with Angie P, the service was great, and the people friendly. Met a lot of fun folks and hope to see them again at the next Unilocal Elite event!

There was plenty of pie, plenty of love, and groovy outfits at this event! Thanks to Nicole for throwing this event or I would have never found this awesome venue! Also thank you Tonya for letting me be the photo whore that I am. I can say that right?
As for the food, it was pretty fabulous. When I saw all the topping choices I had a little inner monologue with myself that went something like this: «So much power, and it’s all mine! Mwahaha!». I went with a pesto, mozzarella, artichoke heart, spinach, and pepperoni pizza, and it was delicious! The pizza is light and crispy and so yummy. Beverages provided by Empire distributors went with the pizza nicely. The wine rep was so informative, and the chardonnay and pinot noir were spot on.
Congrats to Chad and Dion on winning the contest! I left full of pizza and happiness. So much fun!

Great event! Pizza Peel & Taproom definitely went way out of the way to show their best: their dining room and bar were very cozy — almost felt like I wasn’t in Charlotte anymore. Felt like I was in a modern cabin lounge in the mountains…
The pizza I sampled consisted of chorizo and red spicy peppers and lots of cheese. I was definitely content and the crust/​dough wasn’t too heavy. Will definitely have to come back here for more pizza! Who knew that the Cotswald area had such a gem tucked away!
Very fun event! Normally I’m all about the theme but I just didn’t have time to find anything 70’s to dress up in. Everyone looked great though — loved the wigs and seeing fellow Unilocalers in one place.

I agree with Tonya! This was too much fun. I love pizza, so the thought of a pizza bar with the perfect size pizza creation = excellent concept.
My choice was: sauce, mozzarella, jalapeños, bacon, & pepperoni. Nom for real!
The staff was friendly & patient & no one had to wait eternity on their personal pie of heaven! Thank you, Pizza Peel!
I had a glass of the Chardonnay, which was light & accompanied my pizza nicely.
The ambiance was fun, too! I loved being with my fellow Unilocal Elite & meeting new Unilocalers!
The Wine Pallette girls were fun & I could tell they enjoyed being there.
And Tonya! Your pictures were so good & the candid ones really captured how much fun we were all having.

Piece Love and Pie was a totally groovy event thanks to Nicole’s superb planning and the generosity of the Pizza Peel and Empire Distributors!
I love pizza and the fact that they let us build our own pizzas made me a happy camper. They had a vast selection of yummy toppings… there were so many different options that you could build any type of pie.
I decided to go with chicken, cheese, broccoli, mushrooms, and black olives which was loaded onto a delicious crust with marinara sauce and baked to perfection. Yummo!
It was cool to see everyone having such a great time, enjoying the tunes and digging the painting. Tonya’s photos are great as usual.

Build-​your-​own-​pie? Yes please. In fact, I would really, really like one of these bars in my kitchen if anyone is out shopping and wants to bring one back. Having been to the Peel before, I knew that I wanted a refresher course on the Aguascalientes — a spicy chili sauce, rather than your more traditional marinara — and it did not disappoint. To be fair, I did sample some marinara, and it seemed to have no problems either!
While we were noshing, the tunes were flowing from Lindy Dobbins, the paint was applied courtesy of The Wine Palette, and Empire Distributors provided the fun juice. Our favorite pink-​haired paparazzo Petunia recorded it all for posterity, so make sure you check out her pics when you get a chance.
Many new faces were seen in the crowd alongside some of the old guard, and the 70s porn ‘stache even took home a gift bag at the end of the night, so all is good. Huge props to our polyester queen Nicole for another sick event!

Pizza Peel & Taproom really put out. I was looking at my photos and since they let everyone build their own pizzas, they worked their asses off. But, boy was it worth it. My pizza had red sauce, monz, red onion, chopped jalapeño, cilantro with an olive oil drizzle. It was really good. I mean good enough to go back immediately and order the same thing good. The crust was chewy, light and airy. Loved it.
Thanks to Nicole for planning such a fun event, the music, booze and food were delicious. I enjoyed the girls from The Wine Palette too. Much fun.
