Charlotte Skin & Laser

This is a review with some ups and downs, but ultimately, yes I’d 100% recommend this place.
On the plus side: I went in simply for cosmetic reasons, and Dr. Rostan proactively said she wanted to biopsy what I thought was just a small, dry bump. I literally never gave it a second thought (beyond thinking it was an acne scar) until she mentioned it, which is bad bad bad since it turned out to be CANCER. Based on that experience alone, the rating is easy: Five stars! Thanks, Doc.
On the con side, the way they told me went down like this: a tech with zero medical background called me and read my results over the phone. In short, it was like «pathology reports are in, you have skin cancer, well on that note were closed for 10 days for Christmas and New Year’s, let’s talk in January byeeeee!!» They didn’t ask me to come in or even have the call made by someone who can answer a basic question (in my case «squamous cell carcinoma??? What does that mean???» Here, she literally just repeated «it’s squamous cell carcinoma.»). Rating: ZERO STARS.
Back to the good: The tech at least had the foresight to put the doctor on to answer some of my questions, and I remember her being fairly helpful and reassuring. Problem is, I was quite literally hyperventilating and barely have any idea what we talked about, and the past 10 days have been terrifying and upsetting and scary. I guess she knew I was not handling this well, because she gave me her personal cell phone number — um, wow, doctor of the year, TEN stars — but I never called. My fault. I should have — it was offered! It also can’t be helped that my pathology report had shitty news and came back the day of their scheduled holiday, but still. I wish I had been in a more supportive environment when I got my crappy, terrifying news.
Despite that, I really liked Dr. Raston and will unquestionably continue to go see her once every fourteen minutes to confirm I don’t have any new evil cells trying to kill me.
PSA: get your skin checked. I’m not a mole/​freckly person and had no idea that dry patches of skin could be killing you.

As a guy, not to be too shovanistic, I really was weary of popping in and having a bump looked at but either way I felt better after leaving.
The procedure was pretty straight forward and the people attending to me had a great bedside manner about them. I never once felt awkward or embarressed, etc.
The interior is a typical doctor or dentist style office with comfortable seating and overall calming environment.

I have been here three times. The staff is personable. I am always leery that they have to take pictures (realize all cosmetic places do). Yet when I came back much sooner than I ever had too do so for fillers, asked Dr. R to look at the pictures of me in the past compared to that day, and she seemed taken aback. I asked the assistant and Dr R., why am I having to have fillers much sooner than in the past years and never got a clear answer. That is when I should have been more clear and /​or left (white coat/​dr office syndrome: once in a chair you lose your courage to suggest this is not the best option and ask to reconsider). The assistant seemed more informed (although too saleslike) and said it is probably time to change fillers, which made sense. Dr. R never said a word, even after I asked and expressed my concern very nicely. I like her, she is recommended yet frankly seems very spacey. It has me concerned enough that i might not be back. My last visit was a serious waste of money.

I love this place the staff is so friendly. I had Keerstan as my Esthetician twice now and love my experience every time.

I’m so impressed with Charlotte Skin & Laser. The staff are always so welcoming and personable. Dr. Rostan is thorough and explains everything in easy to digest detail. Wish I could give her 10 stars. I’m in and out quickly too. No long waits, a spa-​like atmosphere and great dog paintings on the wall. :)

I wanted to like this place and obviously others have had better experiences. I went in for a skin check which they did quickly. I pointed out a spot, they took a biopsy and it came back as something that needed to be removed. I made the appointment to come back thinking I was having something the size of a freckle removed, no big deal right? Wrong! This is pretty serious surgery that leaves a 1.5 inch scar on my arm. I was in tears when I took off the bandage. I was never given ANY information regarding this procedure. I know «it is what it is» but some warning would have been great.
When I went back for my follow-​up visit, I told the nurse about my issues and she apologized, which was nice. But when the Dr. came in to me, she mentioned nothing about my issue, glanced quickly at my arm and states, «Wow that’s looking pretty gnarly, we some treatments we can give you to help with that scarring.» I politely decline and I leave. I was not happy when I left but what really got me was when I received the bill for that visit. Really, an office visit fee for you to sell me services?

I’ve been here twice, both times for cosmetic procedures. They’ve always gotten me in right on time, and are always very professional and friendly. I’ve always been happy with the outcomes and feel very comfortable with them!
They are not «cheap» — but the results I’ve gotten have been well worth the cost.
Would absolutely recommend them.

I still can’t believe how wonderful this place is. I have been in 3 times for consultation, treatment and follow-​up. All of the nurses and staff recognize me and ask how I’m doing each time.
First, I came for a consultation for skin treatment. Dr. Rostan recommended a strong laser treatment, and discussed all of the pros/​cons with me. They also gave other recommendation if I did not want the strongest treatment.
My laser treatment was great, very fast and with minimal pain. They are constantly asking how it’s healing/​
At my follow-​up, everyone came up to me to see how I was doing and answered all of my questions.
I don’t have final results yet, but so far I like what I see. More importantly, I feel like they fully address any concerns I have. When you are treated you get Dr. Rostan’s cell phone number, I called and she called me right back! I honestly did not expect her to. I’ve also received a ton of free beauty products. The treatments can be pricey, but for me the service and early results have been worth it. I also feel 100% confident that if I’m not satisfied they will work with me to make me happy. Love it here and will recommend it to anyone.

I went to Charlotte Skin and Laser with a few concerns about my skin.
At first, I couldn’t find the place. It is located at the back of the building.
The front desk staff was cheerful and polite. The office is nicely decorated with color pops of lime and orange.
Amber was my nurse. She was personable and kind.
There was a large photograph of a dog in the exam room, as well as a painting of a cat. The dog happened to be a Jack Russell named Scooter. He belongs to Dr. Rostan.
Dr. Rostan herself was business-​like and professional, but also warm and friendly. She educated me regarding my skin concerns without pushing products or services. She asked ever so politely, «may I recommend an eye cream?»
I did buy the eye cream. And, I am considering a laser treatment as well.

Updated Review — Following Miradry Treatment.
Joan was AMAZING! She performed my Miradry treatment and talked me through every step. She was helpful, polite, informed, and made me comfortable and answered every question I had during the procedure. She played relaxing music and did everything she could to make my experience excellent.

This is a great place and the recommendations made by Keerstan (their esthetician) and products they carry have made drastic improvements to my skin in a short three months. The ladies at the desk are friendly and lively and the office itself is very comfortable. If you’re looking for a long-​term skin care «plan», I recommend getting a preliminary facial by Keerstan and, more importantly, following her suggestions for future care and products. She hasn’t steered me wrong and my skin looks better at 36 than it ever has.

I should have updated my review a long time ago! I have been here several times now for my little skin issue and it has gotten a bit better over time. The doc says it will never completely go away so I just have to come in once in a while. No sweat.
The wait times have gotten better and it has been a pleasure to go in. Everyone is very friendly. Great place to go with your skin issues in the uptown area! :-D

Definitely a quick in and out. These people don’t have time to waste.
I was happy that I was able to explain that I needed something removed immediately, rather than waiting for a full skin check and they got me in within 3 days.

I was in the market for a dermatology office in Charlotte and was excited to try this practice. My inital impression was positive — pretty easy to get an appointment, convenient online forms, fun — almost spa-​like — office setting. That’s where the positives end.
I went there for a skin check by the doctor. Never actually saw the doctor — nurse handled the whole procedure — which was fine but I would have liked to know this when I scheduled. She went over me quickly and, when I pointed out a troubling spot, agreed it could be pre-​cancerous. She performed cryosurgery, which has left a noticeable scar on my face. I received no post-​op instructions — just a casual instruction that I should be able cover over the spot with makeup in a few days.
The appointment was almost two months ago, and my insurance company has still not received the claim. I have called billing on multiple occasions and can’t get a clear view of the status of my account or the reason why the claim has not been submitted. The purpose of the visit and the procedure performed were clearly medical and not cosmetic.
I won’t be going back. Very disappointed with communications, quality of procedure (by a practice that supposedly specializes in cosmetics, billing and follow up!

I have been a patient of Charlotte Skin and Laser for the past 6 years. Dr Rostan and her staff have always been very professional. I would not consider going anywhere else for skincare. I typically go before the summer and then again in the fall for skin checkups because I live at the beach in the summer and worry about sun damage. Dr. Rostan has always spent time explaining things to me. She is a pioneer in skincare. I would recommend her to anyone who needs a good dermatologist.
