History

Established in 1995.

CMD Automotive was started in 1995 by Jim Gorman. As this Charlotte based auto repair and maintenance business grew, Dwight Patterson came on board as a partner.

A total of 7 more staff members have been added to keep up with the growing business. CMD employs only the best technicians with ASE certified credentials which is critical for quality car care and repair. We take great pride in our work and are committed to the highest quality workmanship.

Jim and Dwight are both working partners, in the shop everyday to ensure quality repairs and great customer service! Your car is in great hands at CMD!

Business Owner

Jim is married with two kids, and has been working in the automotive repair industry for 23 years. He opened CMD Automotive in 1995 and has been a working partner ever since. Jim is an ASE Re-​Certified Master Automotive Technician. He also is a certified MIG and TIG welder, is certified in anti-​theft systems as well as a locksmith, and holds a certification in Advanced Fuel Systems. He also has a Federal Air frame and Power plant License, and is a factory certified BMW technician. Jim’s vast experience means your car will be well taken care of at CMD, giving you the confidence you should find in an auto repair shop.

I don’t expect anybody to be perfect, who is. What frustrates me about this place is every time I’ve used them and had an issue it’s not about apologizing for the mistake and making it right, its ALL about the excuses. I get a pre-​purchase inspection for a truck I’m interested in buying. They find nothing of note and give it a strong buy recommendation. Weeks later the shocks are ready to be replaced. Could’ve used that to negotiate the price down. CMD’s response? «Our inspector was probably really busy and that’s why they missed it». So I can only expect descent service when they’re really slow? So I write them off. Then a year later I need to get my yearly state inspection. I take it to CMD against my better judgment because of the convenience factor, I can literally see them from my office, and I figure they can’t screw this up. If they miss something they are screwing the government over, not me. I call ahead of time and ask when I need to drop it off so it’ll be done by 1pm. They tell me 11:15 and I can wait if I’d like. No I’m going to go grab lunch and I’ll be back by 1. I get back and they haven’t even started yet. CMD’s response? «Our inspector took an early lunch and also we ran out of stickers because it’s the end of the month.» It’s the 19th by the way. I would’ve been willing to cut this place so much slack because of the convenience to my office and even with that going for them they still screwed it up. Go elsewhere for automotive service.

5 stars every time. The customer service is top notch, the guys are honest and the prices are fair. What more could you want out of an automotive shop. I trust these guys. And because they don’t try to oversell me on crap, I will keep coming back and spending my money with them… every time.

Honest and reliable. I have used CMD Automotive since they opened in the 90s and have never had a bad experience with them. Owners Jim and Dwight understand how to run a business, hire excellent employees and they know cars too.
The desk staff are professional and helpful, but I appreciate that you can usually find the owners in back with the mechanics working on cars. If CMD recommends something to me, I never worry that I am being given something I don’t need. They have steered me right so many times over the years that I trust that what they say is true and that my car will be well maintained. My cars are well maintained, and customer service is excellent.
The shop is conveniently located near Dilworth/​Southend and Downtown Charlotte off South Blvd behind the Pepsi Plant (Marsh Rd /​NewBern near Remount Rd). It is clean with a comfortable waiting room with wifi. You can walk to the New Bern Light Rail Station easily, only a block away.

Believe it or not, mechanics that you can trust! Since moving to the area 5 years ago, i have tried numerous shops, to include meineke, summerfields, firestone, etc… And CMD tops them all. Quality work with no BS!
