Cutting Image Salon

Best ever hair salon. Fun laid back, not pretentious vibe they use Loreal Professional which does wonders for your hair. I have only gone to Emily and I have never received more compliments on my color and cut. My husband and almost four year old are also super fans of Emily as well.

I called Cutting Image to make an appointment for cut and color with Shane. Found out from the man who answered that Shane no longer works there but he suggested Emily to me. I hesitantly agreed to go to her. He told me I had to come in for a color consultation which I had never done with Shane. I told him I live an hour away and that was extremely inconvenient so he forgot about the consultation.
I go in for my appointment with Emily and could she have been a bit more enthralled to meet me?! (Sarcasm). She lacked any bit of personality or excitement. She sure made me feel excited and confident about the color we discussed. (Sarcasm).
At one point while we were having forced small talk I asked, «So, why are most salons closed on Mondays?» She answers with,“UH cuz we need weekends too? And that’s like you asking me why most businesses are closed on Saturday and Sunday.“
With a crazy amount of attitude directed towards me.
With that, I tried to stop talking to her because I just found that extremely rude of her. I’m in the customer service business and I would never talk to anyone like she did to me.
Later, while getting my foils out, shampooing and getting a toner in my hair, Emily left me to process in the sink. I must have been in that uncomfortable position for 20 minutes.
Did you know how dangerous salon sinks are? Especially the ones with ZERO padding on them. Google it. It can cause strokes, lack of blood flow to the brain, and permanent damage. I spent $ 100 yesterday on copay and prescriptions for steroids, muscle relaxers, and pain killers. Emily should have never let me stay in that position for so long in that sink. I’m 26 and in good health. Can’t imagine what could have happened to an older customer. I of course did not know of the dangers of salon sinks until the day after when I was in excruciating pain.
After cutting my hair and drying and styling my hair, it was not what I asked for. I told Emily I wanted a trim. She definitely took way more than a trim off and the color just wasn’t like the picture I showed her.
Shane was my go to stylist there because she seemed to really care about your hair and made you feel confident in what she was going to do. Needless to say, I won’t be back. Emily should probably pack up her scissors too.

Both Shane and Emily are EXCELLENT hair stylists. This is the only place in Charlotte that I will go to get my hair cut. Also, the price is very fair.

I originally wrote a review for Cutting Image at their old location (including pictures — feel free to find the old Unilocal page). It has now been almost two years that I have been getting my hair cut by Wesley. He has never done me wrong! I did a drastic cut when I first visited Wesley (cut off at least 12 – 15 inches of hair), and since then he has helped me maintain my pixie short haircut. He is definitely my «go to» guy and I wouldn’t go to anyone else at this point!

I feel for the Unilocalers who had bad experiences with this salon. I’ve heard only good things about Emily, but that poor Unilocaler whose hair was ruined by Justin and treated so rudely after trying so hard to be understanding and cooperative. No surprise to me – my husband who has great hair went in for just a trim, was tired and just closed his eyes after telling Justin exactly that came out with the WORST CHOP JOB I have ever seen. I couldn’t believe my eyes. I don’t know about the front desk, etc., just that nobody in their right mind should ever go to Justin. It’s as if he purposely messed up my husband’s hair.

I had a 5:30 appt and arrived about 20 minutes early. The young lady at the front desk ask me who Inwas here to see and she told me Incould go ahead upstairs and wait for the stylist. I waited 30 minutes and finally asked another stylist where my stylist was? He said she had gone home for the day. I went back to the front desk and asked the girl how long she was going to let me sit there before telling me my stylist wasn’t there. I made the appt 4 weeks earlier on another visit and had an appt card. The front desk person and salon manager tried to blame my stylist for the error with the appt date. No apology and then they tried to get me to have another stylist color my hair. Their customer service is lousy, I have personally seen their employees drinking or intoxicated in the workplace, and then they throw the stylist under the bus and try to blame her for them screwing up the appointment. They could care less about customer service or their own stylists. It’s only about the $. Ben using this stylist for years but won’t go back because of the management and incompetent front desk employees.
They use cheap products on your hair.

Went for a very drastic haircut to the South Park location. I’ve been going to this place for the last couple years but mostly when they were on Park Road. Shane listened to my worry of cutting it too short and she made me feel comfortable the way she explained things and the patience to do my hair. It turned out amazing, everyone at work asked me who cut it and I keep making copies of Shane’s business card. Wouldn’t go anywhere else!

Justin highlighted (I have been having this done for years) and cut my hair. A few days later it started breaking off throughout the day, which it has been doing since (never happened before). It looks dry and brittle and is coming out in clumps when I comb it after showering. Obviously, I am not happy. However, being a reasonable person, I was going to give him a chance to make it right and hopefully get my hair looking decent again.
I first called the salon looking for help/​answers on Tues at 1:00. After explaining the situation, I was told Justin was with a client and would call me as soon as he was done. 7pm rolled around, still no call. I called back, and they said Justin was given my message and was with another client; he would be done at 8, was that too late to call? Absolutely fine I said. No call. No call the next day. On Thursday I called again. Finally Justin called me back and he told me a repair treatment could be done but he had no openings today and that he «wanted to see it for himself.» I said, «fine how about tomorrow?» We scheduled a 6:45 today (Friday July 3^rd).
I received a call today, the day of my appointment, and was asked to come in earlier (4:30) because Justin had a cancellation and wanted to leave for the July 4^th holiday. I was happy to help out. Then I got another call, more cancellations and could I come in sooner so Justin could leave, which I was happy to do as he wanted to «get out for the holiday.» I understood that and went in at 3pm changing my own schedule, but hoping for some assistance with my hair.
When I got to the salon, unfortunately I was met with an unapologetic Justin, who not only denied any wrongdoing on his part, but told me we could do the treatment but that it was $ 30. I politely declined, walked out and will not be returning. I will be seeking assistance elsewhere where I would be treated with respect and as a valued customer. After all that I am left with damaged hair and a bad taste in my mouth about Cutting Image. I am hoping I can save others from going though a similar experience.

I went to a «master stylist» for a cut and highlights and it has to be the worst job I’ve ever had. Somehow she turned a piecy chin length cut into a long bowl cut with zero shape. Instead of highlights my hair is now yellow, orange, and grey! Needless to say I paid $ 190 dollars and I will still have to drive all the way to Raleigh to see my old stylist to fix it. I will definitely not be returning here!

I took my daughter here to ombré her hair. We went in for a consultation, and everybody was really nice. Two weeks later, my daughter had her appointment. Cassandra was very, very nice and did an excellent job. My daughter’s hair looked very natural and the ombré blended perfectly. Cassandra also made sure that we were comfortable and had everything we needed (ie. drinks, magazines, etc) I would definitely recommend this salon to my family/​friends.

I just recently visited this salon and I was very impressed. Emily was my stylist and the first thing she said when I sat in the chair was tell me about your hair. I feel that she really listened and came up with some great solutions for my hair and almost 3 weeks later and I am still happy with the way my hair looks. I like that Emily didn’t try to push products on me. I had to ask her for a suggestion for a good shampoo and conditioner. Her recommendation was excellent. I love the shampoo and my hair feels so clean.
I also like the convenience of the salon. It’s close to my house and the hours are flexible. I scheduled my next appointment when paying and highly recommend this great salon.

I tried this place based on the great Unilocal reviews and it did not disappoint!
I was greeted promptly and taken upstairs and was offered a beverage. Emily then came and introduced herself and took me to do a consultation. I just wanted to give myself a trim to get the dead ends off and she listened attentively and asked what I normally do to my hair. I blow dry and straighten my hair every day and she recommended a heat protecting product to use to prevent further damage.
She was extremely pleasant during the haircut and I am excited to go back to her again. I would definitely recommend this salon because all of the great reviews are true!

I don’t trust just anyone with my hair but Shane did an amazing job on my cut and color and that’s who I will be going to from now on! She is the best at what she does and you can tell she loves and knows what she knows what she is doing!

I went to the same hairdresser for 6 years before I came to Cutting Image because I was so nervous. Needless to say, Shane eased all my worries! She is by far the best stylist I have ever had. She has done everything for me from highlighting to cutting multiple inches off my hair and I have not panicked once. She listens when you tell her exactly what you want and educates you on how your hair will work with your expectations. I would not go anywhere else in Charlotte. This salon fully accommodates my schedule and needs!

Such a nice salon! I love that it’s tucked away from the hussle-​bussle of South Park but such a convenient location. I see Shane regularly and she does an amazing job! If you want a custom color/​highlight for a reasonable price, this salon is perfect. They always offer you wine/​beverages when you walk in and have a comfortable waiting area too. Super trendy, professional, well-​priced salon. I would highly recommend!

I did not have a nice experience here, I’m sorry to say. Having a pixie cut for many years now, I was very specific about what I wanted. I don’t know if the stylist didn’t hear anything I said or just didn’t care, but I left crying over my butchered ‘do. If a client tells you half an inch, don’t take four off. Horrible.

First things first, this salon is absolutely adorable! The art on the walls as you walk up to the loft is fun and artsy. Then, while waiting for my stylist, I was offered a full selection of beverages, which I thought was awfully nice. Shane breathed new life into my hair! She took the time to talk with me and learn about my hair type and what kind of style I was looking for. Me being kind of a hair novice, she offered suggestions of styles and even introduced me to new products I had never heard of.
Bottom line — loved the atmosphere, LOVE my new haircut. I’ve finally found my new salon!

I have curly hair. I haven’t had it straightened in at least 2 years. I decided it was time and since I wanted to do something different for a Christmas party I decided to go for it. Since I’ve only lived in Charlotte for a year and didn’t know who I might trust with my curls (not everyone knows how to properly deal with curly hair), I reached out to Unilocal in my search.
It was a good choice. The first place I tried was booked for the day I needed (it was during the busy holiday season) so I looked again and found Cutting Image and a recommendation of Justin.
He was great! He straightened my hair so well it stayed straight for almost a week– with minor touch ups. I couldn’t believe it. It looked so shiny and beautiful. I had many compliments on my «new» straight hair and many didn’t even recognize the «new» me. Thanks Justin for doing such a great job on my hair!

I was referred to Shane at Cutting Image Salon by a friend, and I am indebted to my friend for the referral. I have been to many stylist around Charlotte looking for a good fit, and Shane is amongst the top stylists in Charlotte. I was just looking to have my roots done and a trim. Shane gave me a fresh new look! She knew exactly what color and cut I should have to best accent my complexion and features. My confidence has been rebooted, and I feel like a whole new me. She was incredibly friendly, and we had a great time! I will definitely be back, and I highly recommend her.

I went to Cutting Image for the first time and really liked everything about it. As someone else mentioned, it is not stuffy, and the atmosphere was really great. I had my hair cut, colored and styled by Shane and was really pleased. The color was just what I wanted and I have received several compliments on the cut and color. Shane was very professional, funny and I would highly recommend her.

I highly recommend Cutting Image! I’ve been with Beth for many many years and my haircuts and highlights have always been spot on. I really like the new salon! It’s not stuffy like many places in SouthPark can be. It has great background music, design, and friendly staff! I’m sure any stylist you get will do ya right– but Beth will always be my girl!
PS– to address the kid crying comment— I’m actually VERY thankful that the staff kindly addressed the situation. I work over 60 hours a week and having a nice experience getting my hair washed, head massaged, etc is one of the few things I’m able to look forward to! The last thing I want to do is have to stare at the mother while doing that fake smile thinking to myself… «OMG! Take your kid to the bathroom or step outside!»

My hair looks amazing! I love my new color and cut. I can’t believe I got my hair done at South Park for the amazing price. My stylist Justin did a great job. My friend was with Cassandra and she did amazing as well. The new location is pretty and clean inside. I’m definitely coming back.

This is an amazing Salon with wonderful stylists who really know and care about hair! I have lived in Charlotte for 4 years and have not been able to find a salon and stylist who have been consistent in coloring and cutting my hair. I am so fortunate I found Cutting Image Salon and Beth (owner/​stylist)! She highlights (all over) and makes sure the tone is correct after every visit and also cuts my hair exactly how I ask and want!
I found this Salon on Unilocal 3 months ago and all the reviews were amazing… since then the salon location has moved to South Park and they had to get a new Unilocal page (weird that Unilocal could not just update the location address on this salons former Unilocal page because the reviews of the stylists were dead on and really good).
The new location is incredible and in a prime location! Very cool interior art designs in an upscale salon without over pricing! I always feel like I’m in a NY or CA salon which is nice to see something different than your regular dull salons in Charlotte. It’s not pretentious at all because this staff make you feel very welcomed and actually know what they’re doing!
If you’re looking for a salon and stylists that do great work (and you actually care what you look like), then make an appointment soon… they book up fast! I can’t say enough good things about them so just go and you’ll see for yourself!
