Elite Event: Santa’s Little Yelper @ Another Broken Egg

+ breakfast for dinner is such a win

What I love about Unilocal events are the people you get to meet, and just have a great time with. This event was over the top in just how much fun we had with other Unilocalers and the restaurant employees.
When we walked in we had the choice of a mimosa or a bloody mary to help get the conversation going while we looked around at the fun outfits people had put together for the pj party. I was envious of Holly and Nikki’s onesies, and wanted one of my own.
I will second and third everyone elses reviews of the beignets, which were amazing.
I got the waffles with bananas, and although very good, I hit a sugar coma induced wall of sweet. Thank goodness a burger was passed around. I was afraid I wouldn’t like the blue cheese and onions on the burger, but it was a great burger! I tried something new and loved it, very proud of myself :).
But like I said before it was really the people that made this event so much fun. We were all cracking jokes and passing our food around to be shared. It was very much the «community» feeling I love.
Thanks again Nikki! Can’t wait for the next one!

I loved it! I loved it! For my first Elite event, this was awesome. Great choice on location — Another Broken Egg was delicious. Very unique/​southern/​Creole atmosphere.
Everything from the appetizers — beignets are a must — to the Mimosas to the main course — Lobster and Brie Omelette was beyond amazing. I only use the term «beyond amazing» for great experiences. My phone died or I would have posted a pic of the L & B Omelette. It looked just as good as it tasted.
Nikki did a great job on the activity selection, as well. My daughters loved them! Plus the Another Broken Egg cups that we received with Free Beignets for a future use was great.
Lastly, I was so happy to meet fellow Elites in the area Everyone was very down to earth bad super nice. Definitely some foodies there, but I liked listening and learning.
I look forward to more Elite events in 2014.

Kudos to Niki for setting this up. This first Elite event exceeded my expectations. I walked in expecting to have a drink and have a quick dinner, but it was much more than that. Even though I came in late, I appreciated the 20 to 30 minutes spent in the bar area to meet other Elite Unilocalers and grab a mimosa before sitting down to eat. Everybody at the event was very approachable and friendly.
Alas, it came time to dine. All of the attendees was able to fit in one long table. My favorite kind of conversation is yelling from one end to the other. Unfortunately, I did not drink enough to make that happen (curse the DUI laws). Even though I ordered my food ahead of time, I had no idea what I had ordered. To my pleasant surprise, a lobster omelette (with no tomatoes) was set in front of me. I must admit, I felt pretty special when Niki said that my order was the only order she remembered. The omelette was PFG (pretty fricken good). I don’t think I spoke a word as I chomped down the omelette. The omelette could have been a little hotter when it came out but it cannot be easy to serve such a large group at once without having somebody’s dish sit out for a bit. The best part of dinner was seeing everybody take out their phones and take a picture of their dish. What a sweet site that was for me. My friends love poking fun at how I check in wherever I go and take pictures of my food. It feels great being surrounded by people who love doing what I do.
I won’t go into much detail on the ornament decorating contest because I was shamed…

What an egg-​cellent time tonight! I’ve been MIA from the Unilocal community lately (2 jobs plus school leaves a person’s social life a little cracked apparently.) I was very excited to re-​enter the community, and in my jammies, no less. I loaded up my Play-​Doh to donate to The Salvation Army and headed down to South Park.
Can we just talk about the brie and apple crostini for a minute because wow. Don’t get me wrong, the biscuit beignets were awesome too, but I could not stay away from that brie. The apple relish mixture was perfect and the crostini were the perfect toastiness– no awkward dried-​out toasts falling apart when you take a bite. We had the whole place to ourselves, and the staff did a fantastic job mingling and delivering food and drinks to everyone. I wish the ornament-​making station was open earlier, as I think that would have been a good icebreaker.
I had been looking forward to this lobster and brie omelette ever since the event was posted, and it did not disappoint. I wish I could have enlarged my stomach to eat more. I also tried a bite of the bananas foster waffle, and it was amazing, although maybe more of a dessert waffle. Nothing shuts up a group of Unilocaler’s like delicious food– everyone stopped talking except for the occasional «Mmmm.» Mimosas and Bloody Mary’s were the perfect addition to our entrees.
The ornament-​making station was a perfect choice for a holiday party. My strategy was pretty much «squeeze paint in at random» while others were more artistically-​inclined.
I will definitely be back to Another Broken Egg. Nikki did a fantastic job planning this event, and I can’t wait to see what else is in store.

Nikki did an amazing job putting this intimate event together. Big thanks to ABE for opening their doors to us Unilocalers during closing hours. The biscuit beignets and baked brie delight were yummy treats before our big meal. I try not to eat dairy so I opted eating the baked brie delight without the brie (I know, blasphemy) but I feel like I wasn’t missing much because it was still really good with just the fruit and nuts sauce.
For my meal I ordered their Bananas Foster Belgian Waffle. I was really expecting it to be mind blowing from the description but I felt I was cheated. It’s a bananas foster so tell me why there were only about 5 pieces of bananas and a sprinkle of pecans on my plate? There was also too much syrup pre poured over the waffles that made it so sweet I couldn’t eat more than a few bites. Maybe in the future they will serve it with the syrup on the side.
Ornament making was a great ender even though mine turned out horrible. Another fun evening with the Unilocalers. Just not so great on the meal.

I now have a go to chain restaurant for breakfast and lunch when out of town or on the south-​side of Charlotte. Top notch food and service throughout the event.
Quite shortly after being greeted at the door by our smiling and onesie wearing Nikki W. My gift went into the pile with all the others. After being adorned with a name tag, me and Tonya P. perched ourselves up at the bar to have a chat with our bartender. Perfectly attentive and able to pour a mimosa at a moments notice, I found myself in that spot for a while. Having the biscuit beignets and the brie pretty much delivered to my face was a treat as well. Although, I did realize it was probably time for me to get up and greet some fellow Unilocalers and also get out of their way. We chatted, schmoozed, and boozed. Everyone really liked the beignets. It was a great fried biscuit, but I just adore the texture of the more traditional ones. The brie on toast points luscious and nutty but I only took a few bites as I knew my «brinner» would be cheesy as well. Loved both apps but if I was to eat them later in the day as we did, a little dusting of cayenne would have sent them over the top.
I wandered the restaurant looking for my final destination of where I would be dining for the evening. I was pleasantly surprised to see a large banquet table in the back in a private room. Each spot having a cool travel coffee mug with Another Broken Egg on it. I took my seat at the end with mimosa in hand a chatted up my neighbors a little. I was astounded by the amount of meat on my lobster and brie omelet. For $ 14 – 15 that is a great deal on that side of town. I know it wasn’t easy having all those eggs cooked perfectly for each person and having them served at the same time. I loved it, but it was a little rich for me. The brie worked, but the cream cheese inside was just a little much. I took a bite of my new acquaintance’s waffle that was next to me and cherished every bite. I wasn’t in a burger mood so I declined an offer to try one. Although, they did cook it perfectly medium-​medium rare. After some words from our staff giving us the ins and outs of the place we headed up front to decorate some Christmas ornaments, while also making this spotless restaurant all sparkly with glitter.
It had been a long day and I was fading fast. Plus, I’m not that pushy of a person so I kind of held back to the side as all gathered around the crafts table. Some people are just better at arts and crafts than others. I apparently, am not one of those people. It was worthy of the tree, but not much more.
After all this, I said a couple good byes, tipped my bartender, and headed out the door. Thank you Nikki and the entire staff of Another Broken Egg for a wonderful end to a beautiful day.

Even after missing my turn and getting caught in crazy traffic… I finally made it to ABE. And I’m grateful our lovely CM Nikki welcomed me with open arms and a mimosa!

This was such a fun night! It was so nice of ABE to open up their doors after business hours for our event. Cheers to the amazing staff for making us feel welcomed and sending us home stuffed and happy!
The mimosas were great AND endless! Say what!!! And just like Kelly C mentioned those darn beignets were simply delightful! But I may be a bit bias because I’m a fan of almost anything that’s been fried and doused in powdered sugar!
For my meal, I went with the Lobster and Brie omelette. Okay, now I’m not really one to rave about eggs… but this omelette was simply divine! The eggs were cooked perfectly and the mix of warm cream cheese and brie was so rich and creamy!!! My goodness… and they use REAL lobster. Yep. You read that right, large chunks of yummy lobster right on top! Seriously, does it get any better?! I devoured the entire thing!
After our meal, it was time to decorate some ornaments and let’s just say glitter and glitter gel pens… do NOT make a pretty ornament! But at least I tried! Next year… snow globes! Seriously, there’s no way I can get that wrong! Haha! But there were some really cute tree worthy ornaments there!
Overall, this was such a fun night! I’m glad I finally got to meet Nikki and some of the new Elites! I’m definetely looking forward to the next one!

Oh those beignets… Did I spell that right? Regardless, they were so good! Powdered sugar, fried biscuit wonder.
Tonight’s event was so much fun, and so delicious. I drank a handful of perfect mimosas, and had the waffle. The waffle was very sweet, but really good, and had that crispy on the outside texture that waffles need. I had a taste of the burger, the crispy fantastic potatoes and a bite of the omelet too and everything seemed to be made perfectly! I got a little bit of food envy for the omelet, but was very happy with my waffle choice.
The staff at Another Broken Egg Café was great. All very sweet and helpful. Even letting us swap out for the hand thrown mug! Awesome! Thanks to Nikki for the great event. The ornaments, while I got glitter ev.ery.wh.ere., were really cute and fun. I had such a great time tonight! See you next time!
