I recently did cabin in the woods for a re-​do (he he) with my parents and sister along with 4 strangers. It was definitely a lot of fun. Without giving it away, I do however think that part of this room is potentially exerting, particularly for those who have back or even certain cardiovascular-​related problems and can’t be in awkward positions for very long.
On another note, I do think that changing some clues around, particularly for re-​dos would make it more challenging. I strongly recommend this fun activity for all kinds of people.

Called to book a room and tried to book twice online. Lost our reservation. They were completely unaccommodating when we spoke to them about it. There are plenty of these around the city. If they are going to be unprofessional and deliver a crappy product, we’ll go elsewhere.

I had never done an escape the room game (except in video game point and click adventures) before Exit Strategy. Being able to examine clues and work with people in person is awesome. I’ve gone twice now and enjoyed both rooms.
The first one I did was Cabin in the Woods, which was HARD. I probably should not have chosen that to be the first room I did. My group only got 50% through with hints. The fact that I have not yet gone back and finished the room yet still haunts me. The set up of the room and the fact that you are led in blind-​folded really fits with the theme. One day, I will come back to finish the room, and my mind will be at ease.
The next time I went we did the Murder Mystery themed room. The cool part about this one is that your goal is not to escape, it’s to solve the murder by answering the questions who, what, when, and why. The room is still difficult, but we beat it with 8 minutes to spare and only two hints!
I hope to eventually do all the rooms, and so do all of my friends who have gone here.

Exit strategy is frkn awesome, screw the naysayers. It’s very reasonably prices, the staff are amazing. It’s a game and it’s pretty hard– which makes it even better. I’ve done three rooms and have escaped only once. Each time I get better and better but the rooms also get harder and harder.
The group in the room makes a huge difference. So if you want to ensure being w/​a group of pple like yourself then book the entire room w/​10 of your friends — — it’s very simple. Or you could just live a little, play a game w/​some strangers and work together for an hour — — it’s just as simple.
I strongly suggest everyone try it at least once. I’m looking forward to escaping the room in other cities I visit. You don’t stop going bowling because you’ve done it a bunch of times in your town. I definitely will do this again!

If you’re trying to choose between Exit Strategy and Black Out, definitely go with Black Out.
When my group arrived and signed in, the staff was far from welcoming. In fact, they were borderline rude with us. We did the murder mystery room, which was pretty fun but tough enough so we couldn’t finish in time even with a few hints. We were about 70% through when the time ran out.
Once we were out of time, that was it. No more hints, no way to wrap up our myriads of questions, no time extensions. They just awkwardly led us out of the room and said someone would meet us to discuss further, but nobody came so we just left.
I tried Black Out and had a MUCH better experience. Amazing staff, great décor, fun challenges, AND they did everything in their power to help us have a great experience. They even helped us finish our room at the end once we ran out of time. Definitely go with Black Out over Exit Strategy!

Cabin in the Woods at Exit Strategy was an okay experience but not great.
I came here with a group of six and we were merged in with a few strangers. It is always nice to meet new people but I will just flat out say that the strangers can hinder the experience. Going with people you know or at least friends of friends was a much better experience as they are less in it for themselves and more willing to participate in teamwork. The host of the attraction did not help with the matter. She just went over the rules and stuck us in the room. No time for introductions of our teammates and no advocacy of teamwork.
In comparison to a room escape I did in Raleigh, NC, this location was not up to par due to some other factors as well. The host did not provide a back story, did not stay with our group (instead we just got a walkie), and had no enthusiasm; it felt like we were just the next horde of people to get in and out. The most disappointing part was after we had failed, they would not tell us what we did wrong and would not answer any questions. Their response was that we will have to come back and try the room again which seems ridiculous since I now have an advantage that would ruin the experience for myself and others, and they also have six other rooms.
The place itself is pretty cool. They have a waiting room with a foosball table and when you walk into the area where the rooms are, it is thematically dark and creepy. What I liked in particular about Cabin in the Woods was the jail bar style divider within the room which really made me want to get to the other side and provided a midway accomplishment. The level of difficulty advertised was no joke; it was hard.

JUST wrapped up with my first time ever at one of these types of events.
Seen them in LA and Az. Heard from friends who have done them, and feel like Exit Strategy would blow them away.
Bank Heist was a blast. And even though we got 90% complete. It was 100% worth it.
We had such a good time we instantly signed up for another tomorrow morning!
I’ve played games like these for years. Always dreamed of a real life version and wow did they over deliver.

Words can’t express how much fun I had at Exit Strategy! Hmmmm part of the allure of this place is keeping the solutions to yourself… «What happens at Exit Strategy stays at Exit Strategy».
What I can say is try to get a group of 10 people together or they may put you with other groups. Keep an open mind, take note of everything and give everyone a chance to try they may do something slightly different that might work by the 10^th time. The staff is really great, friendly and able to give you just enough of a hint to keep the game interesting. We’re already planning our second trip for a group couples adventure night.

This was great! It was a last minute activity suggested by my friend and we loved it! I actually want to do it again. I think it helped that we ended up in a good group of people. I can see how it can get frustrating if people are annoying or not really team players. It looked little shady as we were driving up… it looked like it was in the middle of nowhere, but once you’re in the parking lot it become well lit. I think everyone should try this at least once. It was a lot of fun.

I came here with a group of 10 with making reservations a few weeks ahead of time so that we wouldn’t be with strangers. I’m not scared of strangers, but I was worried that I wouldn’t be able to act my crazy self in front of people I don’t know. If you book a room and there are still spaces at that time for that room, others can still reserve and you’ll just work with them to get out.
When we first pulled up to the area, I wasn’t sure if we were in the right area, as it looks like it’s out in the middle of nowhere, but you’ll be able to see the business name right on the door. No fear! Walking in, you’ll have someone greeting you immediately to your right. The people who helped us were super friendly and was able to check us all in quickly. What I did like about this place was while we were waiting, there is also a separate game room/​waiting area so you can play some foosball and chit chat. I also loved how they had a big map with pins of where different people were from. My husband was happy that there was no pin from Thailand, so he was able to stick the first Thailand pin in there. Yay!
Once it was time for us to start, they gathered us up in the lobby area and explained all the rules and let us put our things in lockers. Now just warning you, the hallway is kinda dark and that spooked me out a bit on my way to the restroom, but it’s good that it’s dark as they want to keep all the different rooms confidential. The room my group did was called Lost In Space and I really enjoyed it! Sadly, we didn’t make it out within the 60 minutes, but I still had a lot of fun. Since the only people in the room were my friends and not strangers, I was able to yell out things in the room and act cray cray trying to solve our way out.
Even if you don’t finish the room, you won’t know how to get out as they will not tell you the last steps you need. They did, however, inform us that we were 90% close to exiting. *sniffle*
Seriously, if you’re looking for something to do in Charlotte, try this out! You’ll love it!

I finally see what everyone has been saying about these Exit games! They’re so friggin’ amazing and addictive! I remember playing the app on my phone years ago so I figured, «hey this should be easy!» Boy was I wrongggg!
My friend booked us a room at Exit strategy in Charlotte and the managers originally told us that it would just be the four of us in the room: myself and my wife and my friend and her husband. But, when we got there we learned we would be paired with another couple, an older couple, who were «walk-​ins». I was a little disappointed at first because I was kinda looking forward to having this first experience with just my friends but in the end I was SO thankful for the other couple! It took all of us, working together, to successfully make it out of the room.
And make it out we did! With less than two minutes to spare, we made it out! How thrilling it was! We did the 70s room and although the folks at exit strategy say 70s is their easiest, for first timers who didn’t really know what to expect, it was a good bit of a challenge. Of course I can’t give away the clues but I will say, just put your thinking caps on and go for it! You only have an hour so you have to be quick about it but at the same time you must not rush yourself into making poor decisions that will eat up your time .
After making it out that first time, we returned the next day to try what they call their hardest room, «Cabin in the Woods». I won’t say why or how but they truly make you WORK for cabin in the woods and they make it much harder for you in every way. I honestly feel they should give you an extra ten-​fifteen mins to complete it because it’s very difficult. What I didn’t like was the fact that they allow up to 10 people into this room which I think is a mistake. I understand that they want you to divide and conquer with each person, or small group, working on different tasks. But all those people in one room really get in the way more than anything else in my opinion. Our time ran out so we didn’t make it out which was devastating. Then, when the lady came to let us out she said that we were SO close. In fact, we were only two short moves from finding the key. Ugh! The cool thing is, they have «redemption» or «second chance nights» that are $ 10 off the original price so you can come back to try again. This second chance is obviously only for people who’ve done the room before so you get another chance to beat it. Or try to.
Everyone at Exit strategy was really nice and very professional. They seem to give unlimited clues if you’re stuck in a room and you ask nicely. I heard that some other places only give you three clues… I’m not sure if this is a good or bad thing. Lol .
I just know I had a blast playing the game, stretching my brain capacity and meeting new people. I can’t wait to go back and I can’t wait to try the various Exit games in Atlanta.

We had been wanting to try this for a while and did it as a teambuilding event at work. Despite all of the positive reviews, I was still a little leery. I was in the Lost in Space room with half of our group and the other half was in the 1970s room. We completed about 90% of the clues so were just shy of escaping within the 60 minute time frame. The 70s group had fun but the Lost in Space group seemed to enjoy it more.
I did not think that being locked in a room for an hour would be this fun and I was worried that I would get claustrophobic. Neither were true. It was a lot of fun and was so active that you don’t think about being in the room; you just think about solving the puzzles and finding clues. It helps that there is an emergency key and the people working are accessible via a two way radio which they also use to provide hints if you need them.
This was a fun experience and I’d do it again but the prices is a little steep at $ 25 for person. Get ten people in the room and that’s $ 250 an hour which is pretty high. Still it was a fun time and I look forward to doing it again.

Want to get locked in a Room and frustrated when you can’t get out!
Cool idea, i never would have thought to come up with. My first introduction to this was when my girlfriend took me here were out filling me in on any of the details.
She has chosen a Room Theme, (DISCO, CABIN, Space, etc) these could not longer exist or be replaced and each room is taylored to certain number of people. So say cabin is best for 6 – 8 people, but disco is good for 4 – 6. However you can do the rooms with less than optimal amounts.
Depending on the room, you solve clues or puzzle which will eventually lead you out the room. The goal is to complete that task in under a hr.
It’s a really cool experience, and my one tip is to not over think too much while in the room. I used my brain to much and got taken down some wild goose paths. So watch out brainiacs!

We have done the escape room concept before, but this is our first in the Charlotte area, so we stopped by on a dreary Saturday afternoon without a reservation. In retrospect, this was probably our mistake, but we were being spontaneous.
The web site does say that you should make reservations, but we had some issues with doing so — so we just stopped in instead, since when we left the house, there was plenty of room in our preferred room.
As is mentioned, the rooms are set aside by number of participants, and because of that, you might end up with people you don’t know, unless you book the whole room, and then pay a no-​show fee for any «missing» people (currently half the going rate, which could be expensive if there are only say two of you). It all depends on how open you are to meeting new people.
An interesting way to solve this might be to have the same number of people (8, 10, whatever) and multiple ways to solve the room — then if people don’t know each other — or even if they do, they could actually be in competition. That would be interesting.
Anyway, when it comes to the room, it’s likely to be a challenge. Some items may seem straightforward, and some may seem to be difficult — it’s likely that you’ll notice things and miss others entirely, but that’s why you are given a walkie-​talkie, and encouraged to try and figure things out for yourself, at least at first. After a while, the staff is there to help, even giving clues as needed to point you in the right direction (they aren’t going to give you the answers, but point you towards them). Unlike some other rooms we’ve tried, they don’t charge you, which is nice.
With a success rate of somewhere between 10−20% (presumably dependent on which room you’re in, it’s definitely worth trying if you like puzzles. Just make sure you — or someone you’re with — is the observant type. It isn’t the cheapest entertainment in town, but it’s definitely worth checking out!

What a fun, different and exciting way to spent time with friends on a random Saturday night. I love new things and Exit Strategy is exactly what this town needs! I get tired of the same old, mundane options and Exit Strategy truly brings a new flare to the QC.
We had a group of 10 and we were in the Murder Mystery room. I know I can’t give a lot away but I will just say it was way more challenging than I had expected! I didn’t really know what to expect but the part of my brain that was required for this event is not the most vibrant side if I can put it that way! :) Don’t make fun of me… with only a 20−25% success rate I would venture to say several of you don’t use that side of your brain very often! Let that be a challenge to you though… Go for it. Try! See if you can get out of that room in an hour. Message me if you get out because I want to personally congratulate you!
An hour goes by quick and so in some ways you feel like the $ 25 per person is unreasonable especially when there is no reward for getting out. They should give you half of your money back if you get out. Or give you a free visit to try one of the other rooms. SOMETHING!
They have three rooms currently… the 70’s room is supposedly requires math. which no thanks, the cabin in the woods is supposedly a little creepy and of course the murder mystery room which is great. They are also in the process of creating another room which has a space theme. Interesting.
Of course I can knit pick and think of ways this whole thing could improve but overall it was really a fun event and it had us talking about it for the rest of the night which I would say is the point! All of us want to return and we are determined to solve the murder. You leave a little unsatisfied because they don’t tell you the rest of the story… smart on their end! It would have been cool if there were surprises that entered during the hour (lights out or a note slipped under the door or whatever). You could take it in soooo many angles. It would also be cool to see a room that wasn’t just about unlocking things but maybe literally having to solve a murder with forensics or by working as a team in some physical capacity.
Bottom lin is that there is room to grow and expand and Exit Strategy is here to stay. Great concept, lots of new ideas to be had and they seem to be ever-​evolving in their approach which is awesome.
Definitely a fun time and we will be back!

My friends and I experienced in the 70’s room at Exit Strategy. Without giving anything away this was pretty cool. We did have to work with 4 others we did not know, the room hosts 10 people at a time. I would’ve preferred to work with just our small group for the reason of there are so many people you can’t tell what everyone is doing or finding all the time.
The room appears very simple but as I’m sure you can guess it is not.
We did not solve the last part, but Jay (who was super nice) said we were so close.
I would come here again and try different rooms. If you don’t solve the room they will not tell you what you missed so you will leave in a sour mood and think about all the things you could’ve done all the way home.

I booked a date special for the week of Valentines Day and suprised my boyfriend with this. I wouldn’t tell him anything about where we were going, so you can imagine his surprise when they started off by making us put everything in lockers, making us read the rules, then locking us in a room (by that time he had caught on, I think…)
We were in the 70s room and didn’t make it out. I won’t share any of the secrets (its no fun if I do!), but we had a ton of fun and were super disappointed when the time was up and we hadn’t solved all the puzzles. We apparently did well for just a team of two, but I was ready to go back right when our time was up.
They recently moved into a bigger location so they have three rooms. Just remember to really get there 15 minutes ahead of time so that you can start your hour on time and maybe have time at the end to celebrate (or figure out the clues you missed).
This would be a great team-​building event, date or fun activity with a group of friends!
