History

Established in 1948.

The Johnston YMCA is located in the historic North Davidson (NoDa) district of Charlotte. Originally located on 36th Street, the branch moved to its current home in 1948. The branch was named by David Johnston in memory of his father, Horace Johnston. The facility was built to be the community center for the mill families living in north Charlotte. Today The Johnston YMCA, located in the heart of the NoDa Arts District, is convenient to North Charlotte neighborhoods like Plaza Midwood, Elizabeth, Chantilly, Belmont, Uptown and N. Tryon Street. By focusing on promoting youth development, healthy living, and social responsibility, the Johnston YMCA is a model for the community and thrives on diversity led by the mission of the YMCA.

Members have access to more than 50,000 square feet of branch facilities with programs and services that include Child Care, Sports, Swim, Older Adults, and Volunteering.
