Great new brewery in plaza mid wood ! My boyfriend and I checked Legion out last Sunday afternoon. As it was 60+ degrees out in January most people were flocking to the outdoor area surrounding the building. As we walked in I was surprised at how large their brewery was(couldn’t tell from the outside)! I love all the exposed wood and the homemade bar top– definitely has some rustic charm. As a huge IPA fan I naturally had to check out their«Juicy J» an American IPA boosting itself as a «tropical treat». My other half tried the Daisy Chain White IPA which had hints of coriander. Both of the beers were delicious, full of flavor and body. As we drank our beers and looked around we couldn’t help but notice the wide range of demographics in the bar — I love that it appeals to a large diverse crowd. Dogs are welcome both inside and outside and if you stop in you must check out the neat overhead view of the brewing area.

Don’t listen to Stephanie H. It’s a new brewery… It’s going to be crowded. It’s a brewery… It’s going to be loud. Sound dampening foam… Move to the suburbs, sweetheart. The beer is damn good. Saison and Pepper is fantastic.

Add another stop to Charlotte’s ever-expanding brewery scene. Legion has made its debut in a terrific central location that is spacious and quite on trend with its décor. The wooden plank ceiling and the mixed pressed wood bar top are both especially eye catching. I didn’t think it was appropriate to take a picture of the ladies room, but the funky colored wall tiles are actually from commodes. Very cool and so random. I also liked that there is a balcony that overlooks into the production side. Anyways, I stopped in on New Year’s Day surprisingly with an interest in still having adult beverages with some friends. It was around 2pm at that point, and it was not overly crowded, but it definitely was packed by the time I left at about 4pm. I had pints of the maple canyon and the black oat. Both were quite tasty, but I preferred the sweeter maple-y goodness of the latter. I am definitely looking forward to making a return visit.

A new brewery to try in Charlotte! My best friend was in town so we decided to go on a drinking adventure. What a spacious and nice brewery! Unfortunately, it was crowded and LOUD. I think that they would benefit from installing sound dampening foam. Flight 1 — Carolina Sparkle Party, Squirrled, Maple Canyon, and Daisy Chain Favorites out of this flight were the Maple Canyon, a maple syrup brown ale, & Daisy Chain, a white IPA. Flight 2 — Black Oat, Cran-Bizzle, Juicy J and Saison and Pepper Favorite out of this flight was the Black Oat. I was excited about trying Cran-Bizzle but it was just not for me. The beers were just okay none of them really stood out to me. Best friend got the Wittastic Wit in her flight and I personally thought that was the best one out of the beers that I tried. Overall, a new chill brewery in Charlotte but not my first choice for a beer.

Favorite new brewery in Charlotte, I did not try a beer that I did not like. Staff was very helpful despite being packed, definitely worth a visit.

Holy Plaza Midwood Batman! There’s a new Brewery in town and it’s pretty damn good! Very smart location for this place! Love the woodwork and industrial feel — down and dirty essential materials but with a clean finished look! The bartenders are quick and friendly and can actually talk about the beer! Nice! The Juicy J is great addition to the IPAs here in Charlotte! Of course I’m partial to El Dorado hops, but they nailed this one! The Daisy Chain is a nice IPA/Witbier hybrid. I like the spiciness the coriander imparts. Not sure if this one is a regular or a seasonal/experimental batch. And pay close attention because I’m going to reveal my back up parking location and it rhymes with Vermin Pilliams(wink — after they’re closed of course). These guys have a lot of potential and are already making good beer! Can’t wait to see what they do next! Crystal ball = big future!!!

Great addition to Charlotte’s beer scene! This lovely spot is situated in Plaza Midwood perfection. I love all the wood in the brewery and along the bar. Great atmosphere! The balcony overlooking the brew house equipment was also a nice touch. I had 2 flights, so I tried almost every beer. I was very impressed with everything I had. Every style was excellent. My favorite being the maple brown. We will definitely be back!

Excellent addition to the Charlotte beer scene made even more appealing by their central location in Plaza Midwood! We stopped in the first week they were open to the public and I was impressed with their selection and quality of beer. I had 2 flights so I got to taste a lot… The lighter beers — wittastic, cran-bizzle & saison and pepper — were all good, easy drinking. The darker beers I tried — Squirreled, Maple Canyon and Black Oat — are where Legion really shines! The Squirreled is a dark, smokey brown ale, full of flavor. The Maple Canyon, as a friendly bar tender explained to me, was«birthed by the Squirreled.» The same bar tender also told me the Maple Canyon had 5 gallons of maple syrup in my one taster glass. Funny people behind the bar at Legion! Anywho, the beer was sweet due to the addition of all that maple syrup but balanced nicely by the brown ale’s smokey undertones. I’m a fan! The Black Oat was equally delicious. And, who doesn’t love a good dark beer in December? Despite being packed opening week, the bartenders were quick to get your beer order and still managed to make friendly, small talk with just about every customer. I was impressed at their ability to stop and explain their brews to me without falling too far behind on serving. All in all, fun spot with good beers! Looking forward to lots of visits and watching Legion take off.
