Fabulous food at affordable prices, with the best service. Eat at Mattie’s – an authentic and original 1948 Fodero diner imported from Bound Brook, NJ. Classic diner fare with a contemporary twist. Best burgers and milkshakes in town!

History

Established in 2010.

Mattie’s is an original historic diner manufactured in 1948 by the Fodero Dining Car Company in Newark, NJ. It was first located in Cranford, NJ before it was relocated in 1955 by owner George Psak, where it became the Bound Brook Diner. It remained there for 4 decades, until Hurricane Floyd put it out of commision in 1999.

In 2001, Charlottean and former Jersey Boy, Matt King and his business partner, Steve Estes, read an article in which a prominent city leader stated that Uptown Charlotte would never be considered a «real» metropolitan city until it got a 24 hour restaurant. Matt, who had dreamt of owning his own restaurant for years, realized right then that what this city needed was a good ol’ diner. He and Steve embarked a 9 year journey to bring their dream to Charlotte. Their determination paid off when they were able to bring a former NJ Queen to the Queen City – the Bound Brook Diner is now restored and proudly bearing the name «Mattie’s Diner».

Business Owner

Born in Jersey City, NJ, raised in Lyndhurst, graduate of Rutgers and current citizen of the great city of Charlotte, NC. You can take the boy out of Jersey, but you can’t take the Jersey out of the boy. That’s why I bought, restored and now cook all day long in the former Bound Brook Diner. Taylor ham, anyone?
