Specialties

Situated at the base of Mt. Philo State Park in Vermont with stunning panoramic views of Lake Champlain and the Adirondack Mountains, the Mt. Philo Inn offers guests privacy, space and tranquility, while being convenient to Burlington and Middlebury.

A recent three-year restoration has transformed the property into a unique lodging that is conducive to educational retreats, family reunions or simple weekends away.

The boutique inn features four spacious suites– one 2-bedroom and three 3-bedroom – located in separate wings of the building. Each «wing» has a full kitchen, bathrooms and private entrance way. Kitchens are fully equipped for cooking and entertaining. Refrigerators are stocked with a breakfast basket of Vermont products. Bedrooms are outfitted with luxurious Anichini sheets. The rest is up to you.

History

Established in 1896.

The Mt. Philo Inn was a destination resort for 70 years. A commune in the sixties, the inn most recently functioned as long-term apartment rentals but is now available to travelers looking to stay two nights or longer.

Meet the Business Owner

David G.

Business Owner

After purchasing the inn in 1990, the Garboses began carefully renovating the 1896 facility, preserving historic arts & craft items such as pocket doors, original woodwork and brass doorknobs, while expanding living areas by removing walls. Initially they catered to long term renters. During the filming of the 2000 movie «What Lies Beneath,» the couple began providing furnished apts. Their unique boutique hotel model now features four 1800 sq. ft. comfortably furnished suites for a few nights or a few weeks.

The first year of hosting overnight visitors has been a tremendous success. Our design incorporates the best of of traditional Vermont craft combined with high-tech amenities. The Mt. Philo Inn features all Vermont products;. All renovations were made by local craftsmen with native stone and wood. Combined with panoramic views of Lake Champlain and a location adjacent to Mt. Philo State Park the result is world-class.
