Residence Inn by Marriott Charlotte Uptown

I don’t normally leave reviews but in this case I made an exception. For one the bed definitely was not a queen size bed. It was full at best. I know since I have a queen bed. Next up was the fact that twice their systems were down and couldn’t make me a new key or let me pay for some concessions when that craving hit. Last but not least I noticed employees were parking in the spaces designated for guests. Normally this may not be an issue but on a weekend when there is a football game in town you are going to be booked up mostly. I mean c’mon the hotel is next door to the stadium, hence why I picked it. It wouldn’t have been so bad had the desk clerk copped an attitude when I said something about it. Otherwise it was a decent stay. I got an excellent price considering the location and the busy weekend it was for Charlotte.

Stayed here on a saturday night and i loved it. It was only a 7 minute walk to all the bars and clubs. The room was very spacious and clean. The staff was really friendly and helpful. I would recommend this place if you are in the Charlotte area.

After reading reviews of previous guests, I was absolutely shocked and disgusted by my overall experience at this hotel. First, the rooms, at least the two I was in, were outdated and the cleaning was «hit or miss» at best. Secondly, the food served at the bar (excluding the shrimp cocktail) was over cooked and overpriced. Moreover, the pub dining is closed on Sundays, only room service is available (w/​a 20% gratuity added). Since, I was working long hours, basically confined to my room, this was my life for nearly 2 weeks! Thirdly, after waking to a huge SPIDER in my bed, I was allowed to move to another room and the night manager apologized and «bought me dinner». (I considered posting the pic of the spider in the bed, but decided against. I can send it to Marriott if requested.) Lastly, to add insult to injury, during checkout, the same manager, along with a female staff member, gave me plenty of attitude while scrutinizing my final bill ensuring I am charged for the late checkout and parking despite me repeatedly telling them I paid for and used the Duke side. This trip alone, I have stayed in 3 different Marriott properties for more than 30 days! I am so disappointed with Marriott and I will never stay at this property again.

Great location and in the middle of the night life. The room was large and spacious. I’d recommend this for anyone who needs more than one night with better rates. Front desk was very helpful and friendly!

I really like staying here when I’m in Charlotte. It’s very conveniently located, right in the outskirts of downtown and also less than 5min to jump on the interstate. The staff is very friendly and helpful with anything you need. It is also kept VERY clean by the staff. I’ve never had an issue here with cleanliness of the rooms or anywhere else in the hotel. They are also very fast. They seemed to know that I would wkout first thing in the morning and they’d clean my room before I got back. I didn’t ask them to, but it was a nice perk to walk into every morning. There’s updated appliances and electronics which is a bonus.
Aside from the room there’s a beautiful bar downstairs which is well stocked. All the bartenders are friendly. They also serve complimentary breakfast in the mornings. Decent size gym with equipment that is well taken care of. There’s an office area and pantry if needed. There’s a parking garage that you use your hotel key to get in and out of (grab 1 extra key if you’re like me and keep forgetting the hotel key in the car after I used it to get in the garage!). The garage is well lit and actually has power saver sensors so when you walk through at night the lights get even brighter so you feel safe walking through. There was also staff that would walk with you at night if you wanted (nice touch). There’s room service if you’re to tired to cook or go out. It’s basic food but tastes good. Also, very reasonably priced! I will continue to stay here when I come to Charlotte.

Good location. Terrible front desk staff & way over priced. The front desk staff was not interested in helping me checkin. She kept answering the phone even though others were there. We had an issue as when I booked via my phone it didn’t say there was a $ 75 fee for a pet. We left. Made a one night stay $ 325. Ummm you are a Marriott not the Ritz

Great location, great staff, amazing room.
We had a large suite with a full kitchen (and I mean full), living room with pull out couch, recliner. bathroom vanity was large, bathroom was large and everything was extremely clean. Would definately reccomend staying again.

Disappointed by my first and last stay here! I’ve stayed at all the Marriott and Hiltons properties here at Charlotte, around 25 nights a year in Charlotte and this is by far the worst!
I come for business and look for a few things, cleanliness, gym amenities, service, and how the place feels. First off it took 5 minutes to find someone to check me in. Ok not bad. Finally get to my room and it reeks of curry. I go downstairs and spend 10 minutes pleading for any other room. After them repeatedly saying, «the room has been empty for 2 days, it shouldn’t smell» they finally found me another room. Strangely the next room smells like stale smoke. I can deal with that instead of being that a-​hole customer. In the past 5 years I’ve spent about 200 nights at various hotels, this is one of 2 hotels I can remember with this type of odor problem! Maybe I just got unlucky
Next, I hit the gym and the place is not clean, small, and filled with old equipment. I felt dirty working out there. If you don’t believe me, check out the carpet! That thing has never seen a carpet cleaner! Another negative…
Also I keep seeing small dirty spots in my room… Nothing major, but just a sign that says housekeeping is not a number one priority here. I can deal with it since overall the place seems clean
On the plus side the rooms are big, cheap, has a kitchen, and is close to my office. If you are a family trying to save money this place is awesome. Pull out bed kitchen and spacious. ‚
I will try to avoid this place in the future and would rather stay at:
Hilton
Courtyard Marriott
Doubletree
Hilton garden inn
And any other place!

Stayed here while in Charlotte for my conference and it was very nice, one thing I love about staying at Residence Inn’s is the nightly reception with wine, beer and snacks.
The breakfast buffet was fresh every morning and fully stocked. The room was very big and the two TVs were great.
What else can one ask for in a stay. About a 8 min walk to the convention center.

Booked the penthouse for a night on the town, in the town. Upon arrival, we were promptly greeted by plenty of construction for the new Knight’s ballpark, making getting there a challenge. Once we found our way to the entrance, the clerk at the desk decided that the phone call — possibly a personal call, possibly a take-​out order — was much more important than our business. Regardless, we eventually made our way to the room, and it was nice in appearance. Not over-​the-​top or anything, but nice for a Residence Inn, and nice for our night out.
Unfortunately, the thermostat is the «hotter and colder» variety — not much different than the kind that used to be mounted under the window, it’s just now on the wall. Is it really that much more to have the kind you set an actual temperature? It means that throughout the night, it gets way too hot, or way too cold, and makes for an uncomfortable night.
There are two televisions — one in the living area and one in the bedroom. The one in the living area works with the lineup card, while the one in the bedroom has the digital assignments, such as 76 – 0010 and whatnot, meaning you can’t find anything (including HBO), so if you want to actually watch a show, you’ll probably end up watching on the hard-​as-​a-​rock sleeper sofa in the living area.
If you have to flush the toilet (and many people prefer this option), you lose all water in the bathroom. Not most, or even a particular temperature. It’s gone. Not forever, so don’t be completely alarmed. But for a few seconds, water completely stops. Not sure if this is unique to this room, or to the 11^th floor, but it is a bit odd.
The hot breakfast is, well hot, but the offering wasn’t the greatest. In fact, some other quick-​serve, business-​style hotels offer a better service and they are only deemed «continental». If you go to an Embassy Suites, with their made-​to-​order breakfasts, it’s much, much better.
All-​in-​all, we had a passable night, but I’m not sure if I’d stay again.

This was a wonderful place to stay!
I visited Charlotte last august on business and I booked this hotel based on the positive Unilocal reviews. The hotel and room were immaculate, the room was very attractive and the view of the city at night was delightful.
They also have one of the best «continental» breakfasts I’ve ever eaten. The hotel shuttle graciously provided transportation to a seminar I attended at another hotel and I chose to walk the few blocks back to the hotel in the afternoon.
There were many restaurants, as well as shopping, within a short walking distance and the Carolina Panthers stadium is practically right next door. A well lit, covered parking garage is attached and provided adequate and secure parking.
I highly recommend this hotel for business and/​or pleasure!

I’m traveing to Charlotte every week. The staff at the Residence Inn makes being away from home bearable. They go out of there way to make you feel more at home. It is as good a deal as you’ll find. I filled out one of those feedback cards and the response was immediate. They changed the way the Wi-​Fi worked so it didn’t time out whIle I was working. The fitness room is pretty good, and I use it regularly. Breakfast is something to look forward too. The nightly happy hour and complimentary food are great.

We had a nice stay here. Staff was very friendly and the room was nice and quiet with a good view of the city. I would say it was a good value.

Ah. Now that I’ve officially moved out of the residence inn I feel a little better writing a review about the place. Not that I have anything notably bad to say about it, to do so before just seemed in poor taste.
Now I lived in the RI for about a month and a half, compliments of a relocation package from DX’s company. So while we got a weekly bill and could see what was being charged, he just ended up passing it along to HR.
What do you get in a RI suite? Queen bed, pullout sofa in the living room. Maids come each day and change the linens if you put the little card on the bed, and change the towels that you put on the floor or in the tub. They often forgot to leave me some dishwasher detergent, which maybe wouldn’t have mattered for someone working most of the time and eating out but I did a lot of cooking. So if you’re the jobless plus one spouse or domestic partner in one of these scenarios, prepare to make a few front desk calls about supplies.
Nice things: complimentary beer and wing, fruit and cheese and other kinds of buffets throughout the week. Breakfast every day. Um… we had TVs in the living room AND the bedroom, I guess good if a family is staying there?
Things to note: the place gets packed during weekends in the fall because it’s just a hop skip and a jump away from Panthers stadium. So if you had a quiet breakfast during the week, prepare to wait in lines for your coffee to be refilled during football season. During the game they’ll have a tailgating party in the lobby area for the poor schmucks that didn’t get a ticket. Also quite close to the Charlotte visitor’s center, the Mint museum of art, Duke Energy, Wachovia and the new Amelie’s French bakery on Tryon.

It’s a Residence Inn, so by and large you know what to expect– a living area with a sofa-​sleeper and a bedroom.
The reason I typically stay at these when I travel with my family is that we have a three year old. That means I can count on a decent hotel with a door I can close so my kid can sleep and I can watch TV.
Not so much at Uptown Charlotte. The door not only didn’t close, it didn’t fit the frame. As in, somebody with «Hoyt» stitched over his pocket would have needed half an hour with a plane to get the damn thing to close. In addition to that little gem, the guy in the next room decided to conduct business with Bombay at 3am. We listened to mellifluous Hindi for damn near two hours. I don’t blame him, everybody’s gotta earn a living, instead I fault the hotel. A guy should be able to make phone calls/​watch TV/​quietly murder someone next door without waking other guests.
I would probably have ranked the place higher had they decided to come through for us on customer service, however the manager, although a nice guy, only offered to move us to another room for the next night. Um, we’re checking out this morning, genius. I’m really glad you are going to get right on the problems I pointed out to you, but kinda underwhelmed that your thanks for pointing out your inadequacies is all I get in return.

The nicest Residence Inn I have stayed in thus far. Very Impressive.
