Yelpo de Mayo Open Party

The Terrace is definitely one of those hidden gems. You could spend hours upon hours and never come across it because you quite literally have to be looking for it to find the place — even then it can be a challenge.
Nestled on the fifth floor (roughly) rooftop, the views are awesome. It is a great space. There is an incredible amount of space to boot — the Unilocalo de Mayo event took place here and even though there were dozens (hundreds?) of people there, it felt like there was room for plenty more.
The downside, other than finding the place? It is surrounded on three sides by structures — two of which are parking decks. That is not really bad, but it would be so much better if it was above the decks, rather than next to it.

How can you not love Cinco de Mayo? It’s another great excuse to live like a lush. Combine that with the greatness that we call Unilocal and we have a fiesta that will make mariachi bands envious.
Whether it’s an MC or a classic DJ spinnin’ the Cameo (Word Up, oh, oh), to silly faces in Shutterbooth, Nicole always knows how to put on a great show. Great local eateries showcasing their talent, from the Roots truck, to Harvest Moon; Unilocal is keeping the locavore movement alive and kicking.
How fab was it you say? You know you’re in the right place when you see men and women rockin’ 70’s porn star ‘staches hoola hoopin’ for vitamin water.

I am not new to Unilocal,but I am new to the Unilocal community, I just started writing reviews, but have depended on the app since I first got an iPhone a couple years ago. I saw this invite sent out and it sounded too good to be true, but I RSVPed, told my wife about it and we headed downtown not knowing what to expect.
When we got to the terrace downtown, we were kindly greeted and the guy gave us name tags and explained everything to us including the donations.
There may be no such thing as a free lunch, but there is definately such thing as a free Unilocal party. We enjoyed more Margaritas than I can remember at the Moe’s tent, and the coffee raspberry drinks across from it were also amazing. I was eating Margarita cupcakes like TicTacs at the cupcrazed table. We loved all the vendors that participated and probably had the most fun at the shutterbooth. Definately wish we would have had one of those available at our wedding for all the guests to play in.
We happily made our donations to the Autism society as we were treated with delicious mexican food, free drinks, entertainment, and lots of fun keepsakes.
I have now drank the proverbial Unilocal koolaid and will be writing reviews and attending functions from here on out, thanks for organizing a wonderful event, sorry I don’t know anyone by name yet that gets these things in motion, but hope to meet more Unilocal people at future events.
Oh yea! Kudos to the genius that came up with using the frisbees as a food dish.

Shame on me for not writing this awesome review earlier. What a great night filled with food, drinks, and fun. I think I’ll start by thanking Nicole for all her hard work in putting this event together it was well worth it. Let’s talk about the space «Terrace at South Tryon Square» this is one of the best event spaces I have been to in the Queen City it’s spacious and has a great view of uptown.
There were so many great vendors I don’t want to leave anyone out… I started my night with the most delicious mojito cupcake from Cupcrazed look I’ve tried many cupcakes in this town and these were by far the best I have had — there flavors are unique and the icing is spot on. Yes I went back for seconds Mexican Chocolate how could I resist.
Moving on to my very tasty margarita, followed by a delicious Sauvignon blanc, and a ridiculous coffee energy alcoholic drink from WhyNatte Latte
ok I have to admit I had a few to many of these coffee drinks they were delicious… and I found out you can buy them at common market so that is great news.
Props to all the food vendors I really enjoyed little pork taco bite from Harvest Moon, and Roots props to you all for the duck confit (making us Unilocalers so sophisticated) Moe’s you know queso and chips is just what we need to fill up our belly’s and 3 amigos yum yum yum! Vitamin Water I have loved you from the beginning but you topped my night with the giant Jenga game — cool swag — and a crap load of Vitamin Water to take home you all rock. Stila girl thanks for making me look beautiful and for all the make-​up tips much appreciated.
Shutterbooth you made me laugh and made my night memorable… PS. this is a great idea for a wedding.
The best part about this event is that it went to a good cause The Autism Services of Mecklenburg County… I hope everyone remembered to donate — what’s better then knowing instead of spending $ 50 on a bar tab you still got a great party and your money was going to something meaningful.

Let’s see. When have I ever been disappointed by a Unilocal event… um…never??? And the streak continues!!!
Yes, it was another great event but this one was greater as it included a lot more people. While due to other commitments, I arrived later than the rest. Upon arrival, it still felt like there were plenty of good times left to be had.
Props go out to all the vendors who helped make this event a fun filled time. I was so glad to see Victoria in attendance and finally in the CLT (see my profile photos). I also enjoyed sampling the many treats brought in by Cupcrazed. I never thought I would enjoy a cupcake with clove in it so much. Whynatte, I wish I enjoyed coffee because based on everyone’s comments I was sure missing out on something good. Shutterbooth, well your effect on those in attendance is well documented. VitaminWater was a perfect ending to my short evening as I found a new tasty flavor.
Overall, it was great meeting some new Unilocalers and trying all the different and interesting things. I just wish I had been able to get to the event sooner to partake in all of the items available.
To sum it up, I had a great time… again.

What a fantastic Unilocal event this was! Huge props and thanks to Nicole for putting everything together — great food, great location, great company.
Food vendors included Roots, Harvest Moon, Cupcrazed, Moe’s, and Three Amigos. My favorite was Cupcrazed as they offered delicious sweet treats, which are my weakness. I, of course, tried all three of their specialty cupcakes — Mojito, Margarita and Mexican Chocolate — as well as the delicious (and beautiful) sugar cookies shaped liked guitars, sombreros, etc… you get it — Mexican theme. All washed down with delicious margaritas, fantastic wine and Mexican beers.
Location was gorgeous; what a perfect place to have a party or wedding reception. Space is plenty big but feels intimate and is very easy to find. The DJ kept the party going without being too interfering of conversations, and the vitaminwater stand kept everyone hydrated throughout. And for those wanting to get their make-​up done (or a mustache applied), the Stila rep was very friendly.
Way to go on this inaugural event. You’ve set the bar high for these yearly open parties!

Awseome event — thanks to Nicole for putting this together and to the vendors who provided the food, drinks, and entertainment! My personal favs were the margaritas, Enchiladas from Three Amigos and Nachos with queso from Moe’s. Oh, and the Mexican chocolate cupcake from Cupcrazed — YUMMY! The Terrace was the perfect venue for this party — there was plenty of space and I love being outdoors.

Wow this event was just fabulous the whole way through! The Terrace was a great venue choice, being spacious enough for everyone be comfortable. I was it was going to rain the whole day in the morning, but luckily after some quick showers the day turned out gorgeous!
There was tons to eat, do, and great people to talk to. Apparently I am awesome at Hula Hooping and won myself some chapstick and frisbee. There was also giant Jenga, Stila’s stache and flower booth, and shutterbooth fun. The food was sooooo good! My favorite of the night was the delicious carnitas from Harvest Moon Grill. Slightly sweet, spicy, and absolutely yummy! There were also Duck Confit enchiladas from Roots, Enchiladas from Three Amigos, and Nachos with AMAZING queso from Moe’s. For drinks there was a multitude of beers, some great Margaritas (I had 5!), Whynatte, and Vitamin Water.
The event was so amazing and everyone was having so much fun! The entertainment was top notch, here’s to more amazing events like this in the future! Much appreciation to Nicole for throwing such a cool shindig!

What a fabulous event and the most perfect weather! My friends and I had an absolutely fantastic time. We were right next to the Vitamin Water station and got to see some insane giant Jenga! I also got myself some free chapstick and a t-​shirt.
My new favorite drink is Whynatte! I had three — thank you very much! The cupcakes from Cupcrazed were so addicting. Mexican Chocolate and the Margarita were my two favs. The little cookies were also delicious. I’ll be posting a pic of those shortly!
The DJ was great! But I want to know who is responsible for requesting Mmm-​Bop? I will find you!

Unilocalo pretty much made my night-​o due to a fantastic outdoor location right in center city and plenty of unique vendors serving the love South of the Border-​style.
I was blown away with the beverage selections here, on which I think I compiled my liquid dinner. Maragaritas, Coronas, Victorias, and the show-​stealer: Whynotte mixed with vanilla vodka and raspberry Stoli. Watch out Red Bull, I’ve just met your competition and they are bringing it!
But there were serious eats out here– especially from Harvest Moon Grill with mini Pork Carnitas on tostadas with pickled onions and (wait for it)… jalapeño jelly. Insanely good. Another new food truck, Roots, also brought the heat with duck confit tamales garnished with baby cilantro. If you take locally-​sourced seriously, these 2 trucks are making it happen in a big way. Can’t wait to find them for their regular menus.
And there was more, as crowd faves Three Amigos brought authentic enchiladas (props for the veggie versions) along with a host of sauces for you to customize with. Still loving their tostada chips and that dreamy avocado-​jalapeño sauce. Even Moe’s showed the love in chips and salsa/​queso/​guacamole style.
Notice something missing? A little something sweet? I have a new frenemy south of the (NC) border: Cupcrazed. I hate to love ‘em because they are too darn good and yet I can hear my dentist imploring me to step away from the light. But who could turn down in mini-​style Mojito cupcakes, complete with mint leaves in the cake? Margarita was there too– with a buttercream frosting that could just be addicting. But the gem here was the mexican chocolate– with clove and cinnamon mixed in the chocolate frosting. They were all so good, we even took a six pack home.
Also had major fun at Shutterbooth– here you can mug for the camera with your crew a get a near-​instant strip of 4 shots to capture the moment. Props inside the booth only enhance the fun. But you could also first stop down at the Stila chairs so ladies could glam it up and guys could sport an instant ‘stache. Serious fun and another great community event.
As usual, Nicole outdid herself as she continues to top the prior events. Next time I see her, I’ll salute with the Mexican hat dance. Olé!

Simply wonderful!!! Could not have asked for more. The venue was perfect and Nicole/​Yelp put so much care into created a wonderful atmosphere. They had everything thought of. I was even tempted to take a seat in the makeup chair and get my face touched up. LOL. The Harvest Moon pulled pork was so so very good and I am absolutely going to have to try out the original restaurant on Tryon. Cupcrazed was absolutely delicious as well. The music was kickin as the beer was flowing. That was the first time I have ever tried Victoria and it wont be the last. Thanks Unilocal/​Nicole. What a great time!

My belly is still full from all of the free eats and drinks at Unilocalo de Mayo!
There was food provided by Three Amigos, Roots, Moe’s but the winner of all things food was the pork carnitas from Harvest Moon Grill. Can we say melt in your mouth good? That being said, the mini cupcakes and festively decorated cookies from Cupcrazed which absolutely amazing. I’m not ashamed to admit I parked myself by their table for a good portion of the evening. Booze and cupcakes mixed together? SCORE!
The drinks were aplenty – Corona, Corona Light, Victoria beer, margaritas and the winner of the evening –WhyNatte Latte Raspberry Truffle concoction! When they asked if I liked it, I think I drooled a bit before answering because yeah, it was that tasty.
Shutterbooth was there along with props to take fun pictures in their booth. I would love to see the pics from the last 30 minutes of the night to see how crazy it got! I didn’t get a chance to hula hoop or play Vitamin Water jenga but it looked like a ball. The terrace setting was absolutely perfect for this event since it was spacious enough for the huge turnout and didn’t feel like you were constantly bumping into someone.
Gracias to all the awesome sponsors and companies that came out to play at Unilocalo de Mayo and of course, the main señorita, Nicole! Question is – how are we going to top this event? It was pretty baller.

Where to start?! Full of fun and delicious food and beverages in a beautiful space! Who knew that above Uptown streets was The Terrace, a large patio, to host private parties?! The DJ had great tunes to keep the energy flowing, Shutterbooth kept everyone entertained, and Stila made everyone pretty (even the guys got some instant facial hair for an incognito look)! Awareness and donations were made to the non-​profit Autism Services of Mecklenburg County.
Three Amigos served up fabulous enchiladas, Roots Farm Food took my tastebuds away with their duck confit tamales, and Harvest Moon Grille with their welcoming pork drizzled with cilantro sauce. Cupcrazed out did themselves with themed cupcakes and cookies! Such attention to detail made quite the impression. Moe’s chips and salsa paired nicely with the various Coronas, Victorias, and margaritas by El Jimador & Cointreau. Wine by El Portillo & Montgras was lovely too.
Wouldn’t you know, my dessert drink of choice was Whynatte?! I had to go back for seconds! A tasty little drink combined the flavors of coffee, chocolate, and raspberry. It was like a liquid truffle! Then later to hydrate, VitaminWater was a hit! Just my luck, I ended selecting their «naturally caffeinated» one. Needless to say, I stayed up late and woke up early. I got my energy fix and then some!
Our friends had a fantastic time too! By the end of the night, they were taking photos of each plate and ready to sign up for a Unilocal account! Nicole hosted another fun event that will go down in history as one of the best!

What was not to like here… free beer and margaritas, the photo booth, the corny mustaches, jenga, the cupcakes, all the great food vendors, autism awareness… and the weather was just perfect for this open air fifth floor rooftop event!
Me and my friends are going to visit and use many of the vendors that were there tonight — thanks for supporting this Unilocal event.
