Description

Specialties

Specialized care in three convenient locations for allergic rhinitis (hay fever), asthma, food allergy, eczema, cough, sinus problems, bee sting allergy, medication allergy, hives, contact dermatitis, and immune system problem.

We offer medication-free treatments by way of injections (allergy shots) and also by allergy drops (sublingual immunotherapy) taken by mouth.

History

Established in 2006.

Dr. Gary Rakes began this practice in 2006 as part of Virginia Adult & Pediatric Allergy & Asthma in the Albemarle Square location.

In 2009, he expanded the practice with a clinic in Fishersville to better serve his patients in Staunton, Waynesboro, and the Shenandoah Valley. The next year, the spacious Pantops clinic was opened (keeping the Albemarle Square location), and Virginia native Madeline Dillon returned to Charlottesville to join the practice.

Also in 2010, VAPA became part of Allergy Partners. We still offer a caring, personal touch with three convenient locations, but Dr. Rakes and Dillon are also closely networked with a team of over 50 allergy specialists across the country who share the highest standards of allergy and asthma care. They offer the latest treatment innovations, including shot-free sublingual «drops» and convenient cluster allergen immunotherapy.

Meet the Business Owner

Dr Rakes, G.

Business Owner

It’s great to be an allergy and asthma doctor — I’m always confident I can help my patients improve their quality of life. In this digital age, I enjoy using all the advantages of 21st century medicine, but I think it is still important to really listen and treat patients like individuals.

I feel I already have a head-start on getting to know my patients: I’m a Virginia native and have lived in this area through all my professional training (undergrad, medical school, pediatric residency, and allergy fellowship at the University of Virginia) and through 15 years of allergy practice. I combine this hometown feel with my valuable experience as an Assistant Professor and full-time allergist here at UVA for over 10 years, where I taught and helped train medical students, resident physicians, and allergists.

I look forward to seeing patients of all ages in our clinics in both Charlottesville and Fishersville.
